I found kind of a "brain hack" for myself practicing discipline and keeping promises to myself. When I keep promises to myself, I feel a sense of gratitude because I know that activity moves the needle towards my goals. So not only do I take a step forward, but I am also giving myself a sense of gratitude and making myself feel good, which, for me, is a great benefit of self-discipline.
Every time i dont want to do something i told myself i would do, i say to myself: I dont let other people down, so I'm not going to let myself down. That usually helps get me moving to do it whether i want to or not.
And WHEN did I turn on this message? As this week's conversation with Garrain ended...and I pondered skipping abs, and heading to Phase 3 of my workout (Peloton cycle). Nope!!. Back on the mat...here we grow again. Thank you Ed!! P.S. Self-discipline in all areas of my life, especially over the past 2 years: zero alcohol, regular exercise, daily gratitude (pen to paper), acts of kindness, nightly foot-rub for my Tina, making dinner together, cheering people on...and listening to your podcasts.
Great word Ed! We appreciate you speaking truth. Here’s a quote I think you’d appreciate from a former army ranger and author Chuck Holton “Self-discipline is the act of choosing the difficult right over the comfortable wrong. It is the practice of controlling one’s will. Recognizing the bent of human nature to follow the path of least resistance, the self-disciplined individual chooses the neglected path of the hard road. A disciplined person knows that discomfort is the stimulus for all growth. Self-discipline, then, isn’t just about learning to accept discomfort, but choosing it for the sake of personal growth.”
This inspired me today…I know the “little things” really do make a difference and add up to big things! I cleaned my kitchen, took my vitamins, drank water, and worked out a bit while listening 😉. (Disciplines that are hard for me but make a HUGE difference) Thanks again Ed ❤
Ed- I just wanted you to know that you are such an amazing, humble man! Those little things we do every day, such as laying our clothes out, prepping the coffee maker, etc., those "small things" are actually the BIG THINGS in life! We must be disciplined in order to GROW. We must put 100% into everything we do! You always have the right videos at the right time! I look forward to each and every video, and I feel as if I speak for many people following you! Keep on keeping on my brother! I hope one day I will have the pleasure of meeting you- my VIRTUAL MENTOR!!!!
Ed I’m your biggest fan! When I log in you always have the best message, best guests and best intentions! I’m so grateful to you. I’m a Marine Corps veteran in Virginia Beach about to pursue a divorce (from an abusive narcissist sociopath) and sell our house to divide the proceeds and relocate to Texas. I know no one in Texas but took a 4 day trip to house hunt 2 weeks ago because of their incentives for Veterans. I’ve been separated for years but the soon to ex is non stop horrible. Some days I awaken and can’t get out of here fast enough…other days I feel stuck and overwhelmed. The homes 🏡 in Texas are motivating me but getting myself and my son to safety and peace ☮️ is most important. Your videos are motivating me as well. Thank you for just being you. You are awesome! 👏
I remember reading that article too back then and I thought that he was an Overcomer and I was proud of him. I had absolutely no goal for it to be me. I wasn’t even in the same room. I was raising kids and unaware of any need or desire to be or do more! Thank you for making me think.
Self discipline is my hardest struggle! I’m blessed more then I deserve but I work my butt off everyday. It’s hard we are human but we are strong and resilient. Hard work is the key, push yourself to your full potential we are all meant to be someone in this world. Take advantage of this thing called life don’t waste it! I believe in you and you aren’t alone in this. God bless
WOW Ed ❤ I was having this exact discussion with a client at 5am this morning! (Timezone difference 😉) We went through scheduling the things that need to be done in all life areas and I said to her 'schedule in making the call to that person' instead of thinking about it, get it all out into the daily planner 😄🙌💯 This soooo works! I'm glad to hear you do this too ❤💪 Not to mention scheduling in your fitness and health of course! I believe this really works well for people to avoid overwhelm too ❤🧘♂️🧘🏻♀️ Thank you for your videos and I put your podcast on every day in the car. You are helping me change my life!
Omg ed. U r the one. Yr piece about how if u are undisciplined yr brain has to work HARDER bc its goin in 20 directions is straight f*** gold But if u are focused and have systems then look out. Thinkin is easy. Go on autopilot How do i do this? Oh. I already know How do i eat a salad when i want a cheeseburger? Ez. Done it a million times Brain craves laziness. The easy route. It wants to conserve energy. The way u expressed this very very important fact is PURE GENIUS. Awesome Its not about discipline or.motivation. its about habits Habits are the gold Everything else is just rocks
Dude, I love Netflix shows as well, but I’ve reserved that time for the end of the day with my wife. Don’t get me wrong, I DO struggle with staying on top of my vision. So many things can come up throughout the day that steal your focus, especially when you’re working for yourself. Yoga/stretching, man that changed everything. Guys like us love weights and we’ll always do that, but things like stretching, deep breathing, and I started doing these mini-meditations have really boosted everything in my productivity and life.
Love this, listen to it over and over. Thank you! My daughter is on the high school golf team and has a heart defect and is learning to be competitive and I shared Tiger's rules with her. I also shared it applies to her Graphic Design portion of her schooling. I am hooked on your podcast.
Thank you Ed. I now start most of my morning’s listening to you while I do barn & ranch chores. It helps motivate me to do one more thing. You are a blessing.
I can be self disciplined in the gym, money etc but I've been travelling for months and drinking way too much.I am struggling in this area no doubt . before I was travelling I was studying every day and drinking very limited. I can't do this for some reason on this extended travel. but I do gym almost everyday.
The best thing you can do is make promises and keep them! Write down a list of things you need to do and start taking action! I believe in you brother, you got this!
@@EdMylettShow Hey brother, today I am working on my (own) channel! Getting ready to LAUNCH OUT, SO excited !! *** THANK you SO much for being such an encourager and calling me out at convention sometime back. May God continue to bless you!!!🇱🇷🙏👍
Maaan -- This is why I love youtube. What a priviledge to have a free access and listen from the other side of the world to this super successful person, who shares his knowledge and his strory with child like excitement and passion. Thank you Ed, you deserve all the success in your life.
.....it reminds me of a reply a golfer gave, when someone commented on him being a lucky player..... 'The more I practice, the luckier I get... Behind great achievements, there's been a lot of hard work, effort.... Self discipline is required to consistently put the effort into working towards.... As this show reminds us, when you make being self disciplined a way of life. Being self disciplined becomes your way of life. Self discipline makes life easier for you. 0:02
June 18th! 🔥🔥 is my bday! This spoke to my soul. I’m 51 this year around the corner. Ed loved you tell the golf story with your son. I shared it with my son. So good! 🙏🏼 Keep being authentic.
Ed! You kill it everyday and inspire me in every aspect! I've watched you since getting into the insurance industry and there were some days and that your words were the only thing keeping me going. Thanks man! You have no idea what a strong roll you have played in my life and success! #MAXOUT
Self-discipline became a new comfort zone...and I enjoy the challenge... Overcoming and Delayed Gratification has been my game. The Venezuelan immigrant writer 🇻🇪 Thanks 🌎
Damn, Ed! Looking good! And I couldn't agree more. Everyone WANTS to quit when the struggle hits its peak. Those who refuse to submit are the ones who succeed.
Ontario Canada it's getting hot. Summer time hit and when it hits it slows you down. Makes you lazy because you want to sit back and just enjoy. Thanks for this ed. It's much needed. Need to get back on full throttle.
It's Saturday night and i don't feel like continuing to work on my business. but, I just listened to Ed. And with you message ion mind, I will press on with aggression! This was 1 of your best talks Ed, and i have enjoyed hearing you speak many times over the years! Please, keep doing what you do brother!
Hi Ed, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for all of your great videos. I've been watching your videos for a while now, and I've learned so much from them. Your videos are always informative and entertaining, and I always walk away feeling inspired. I especially appreciate the tips you've given me on self-discipline. I've been struggling with self-discipline for a while now, but your videos have given me some great tools to help me improve. I'm still a work in progress, but I'm making progress every day, and I'm so grateful for your help. I also wanted to share a little story about how your videos have helped me. I'm on day 25 of using a bite wing exercise device to eliminate my double chin, and I'm already starting to see results. It's not one of the easiest things to talk about, but I'm so glad that I'm doing it. I've always been self-conscious about my double chin, and I'm finally starting to feel like I can do something about it. I know that self-discipline is a skill that takes time and effort to develop, but it's definitely worth it. If you're struggling with self-discipline, I encourage you to keep working at it. It's one of the best things you can do for yourself. Thank you again for all of your great videos. I really appreciate your help! Sincerely, Sam Jennings #MAXOUT
Thank you Ed, it’s so true and never realized it until you verbalized it, being non-disciplined makes you much more tired than being disciplined!!!!… I greatly appreciate you Ed and all you have personally you have brought to my life despite never meeting you! Thank you again!
Thank you, just shared with my children, i want everyone i come in touch with to hear this. I aspire to be the ine who helps other women to fell the best they can everday with simple daily actions❤
This is awesome!! I have been trying to become more efficient with my time and be more disciplined and I'm finding that I'll perform better if I get more water in me starting in the morning when I get up. Thanks ED, as always I love your show!!!
Thank you so much Ed! I do have some early morning disciplines/habits but it can be better and more. I will certainly do the scheduling, great advice! Blessings to you and all friends here ♥️🌟
Wow ,I never knew how undisciplined I really was until your video. Thank you this helped me realize I need more discipline to get exactly where I need and want to go.
🎉 this is gold 👍🏻 i raised my hand while driving and listening when you asked who wants to be dominators! 🙌🙌🙌 thank you Ed thank you for being aspirational💪
I really enjoy listen this videos, every time I hear you you remember me that I can’t slow dow on my way to all the goals I have set to myself, thanks Ed for being so aspirational, I hope some day I can thank you in person all that you teach me.
Self disciplined is the ability to be even keel, especially when the mind is whining and the emotions are clamoring to get out. I practice this at leisure events. I know if I enjoy a recreational activity too much, I’ll be equally bummed when it’s over, unless I’m even keel. If you pick up one side of the stick you get the other too.
Wow you have been an aspiration to me. This video is a new level. I listen to this every time I go for my run. I am rewriting my brain to become self discipline. This is my manifesto that I am going to have with me. Thank u
Ed ... My Man,... You have alot of good content, but occasionally, you have a video or talk that is extraordinary!😊 I'm sure alot of this has to do with what resonates with me personally (or to someone else) during that stage of my life, but this one is good. Hopefully, one day, I can thank you personally. 😁 Keep carrying the torch Brother! GOD BLESS 🙏
Just sayin.... I'm going to put it out there... I'm going to be a guest on your podcast.. and once I find my way there the conversation will be epic 😁.
