As one of the few people that one tricked Bastion to Top 500. I really miss him from OW1. I miss the self-heal and the tank jumpshot so much. Hero like Reaper used to be so easy to deal with. Your guide helped me a little, even if I don't think this rework is a success.
Honestly I want old Bastion back My idea on what they could do when it comes to his self heal cause a lot of people hated that is either put it on a longer cooldown, maybe 12-ish seconds like Orisa's Fortify and also limit how much it heals so you dont just heal to full every time cause even I'll admit.. Bastion was BUSTED
Honestly the Self heal was not overpowered. Bastion was not a popular hero and when somebody play it correctly nobody would be able to deal with him because their is so little much people playing it right nobody were train to deal with. I want him back too. the new bastion is a failure even if you provide some good point on how to use it on OW 2 but the ult WTF OW team? the point about OW 2 was to make it more mobile and you change a mobile ult for a non mobile one ? that is a stupid idea. and the previous ult was better than the new one. for my point of view they reworked one of the less played character and nerfed it.
I love both versions of bastion personally. I'll miss tank form a lot, but the rest of his kit is great and fun. tank form is hard to match though in terms of fun value, but artillery is honestly fine. with no self heal and little horizontal mobility, having an ult that can threaten people behind cover is great. one time I got nano'd on a bridge but got booped off before I could get a second kill. artillery gave me the ability to make use of that nano and turn it into a 4k. in the same way that tank form gave bastion flexibility with his stationary playstyle, artillery now gives bastion flexibility in his now more mobile, but still not very mobile playstyle.
As a new bastion main I can confirm bastion is not easy, just because you saw him destroy an entire team doesn't mean he's super easy. He requires good aiming skills and tracking skills.
and if you play vs and player with same skill level than you but with smaller hit box you have almost no way to win the duel. even in this video. he won a duel with a mccree than can't aim a truck and all the other footage he were on pocket mercy
@@matthewcontreras7350 yes sure, the easiest... to make your statement correct it could either be because you never played another hero in the game or you goal is not to win or doing kill and you judge it with other criteria than me. Bastion is clearly not the hardest but clearly not the easiest. I don't know your rank but, yes you can win most of your duel in low rank but you can't imagine to win one it high rank except by baiting the enemy or with a better support from your team. but good for you if you like it like that and I wish you all the best. Bastion from OW1 was better for me.
As somebody who's played bastion since ow1 beta and seen bastions changes over the years this rework was a breath of fresh air for him. Thanks for your sticky bomb tips along with the "flashy engage combo". I tried this trick on Lijiang tower and jumped over some pits and fences and enemies were totally caught off guard 😎. Amazing video for any mains out there!
i think you forgot to mention one more idea behind using bastion's ult effectively. Most people just shoot the three mortars in a line right away, or just shoot the three mortars on 3 different enemies. But i feel that it's pretty effective to create what i like to call "bermuda's triangle" where you rather than shooting directly at a target, surround them with the edges of 3 shots. If they have no major movement ability, it's just a free kill, although this does only really ever work on one target.
The sticky bomb jump blew my mind lol Never ever thought about that 🤯 I’m a new OW player coming from apex, so this video helped a lot 👏🏻 Been playing as Bastion a lot and I love his kit. Wish I could’ve seen what he was like before though
Prior to his rework, bastion was a lot clunkier and stationary. He couldn't move while assault mode (formerly sentry mode) was active and had limited ammo but much higher damage output. Transforming did not have a cooldown either. He never had the bouncy grenade but instead a self healing cooldown bound to a resource meter. He could not shoot or transform while using it but it healed for 90 health a second which is a lot tbh And his ult turned him into a tank for 8 seconds that shot damaging explosives
I love the mini junkrat jump you can do with the sticky bomb but it sucks that it does some damage to you, i always use it to jump and then try to self heal the damage taken, and then realize it’s gone.
Nice stuff dude as a diamond bastion player can I add a tip. When playing against genii up close and he has deflect use your sticky at the ground to get some more damage off him when he uses deflect or wait out his deflect.Me personally I go for genjis. When your trying to avoid an enemy’s bastion ult use the sticky as a way to escape or juke the bastion ult.
I’ve had Overwatch burnout for quite a while, but I recently began one tricking Bastion mostly for fun. Now it’s getting to the point where I’m only picking him. Safe to say I think I’ve got a new main
little bit late but this guides honestly really accurate. there is another thing that i find really useful with sticky bomb, if you shoot it behind enemies who are poking, the explosion from the bomb can push them out of the corner if used correctly, giving you a massive advantage as the enemy is suddenly way out of position
Finally, another bastion connoisseur who has effective tips that cover a wide majority of topics instead of the basics. Thank you for this delectable information.
Dude this video is top notch! Good audio, visuals, amazing detailed commentary, it is trully a 10/10. It is nice to see people still but this amount of effort into videos. Keep up the good work!
This is a great video, I must thank you for giving me a better chance at re-learing my old main. It's a real shame they removed his self-heal though, I wish they kept that and placed the grenade in the empty ability slot. Heck, the two abilities could've shared the same fuel-meter, forcing him to chose one or the other at a given moment.
Yeah self heal was great for dealing with poke but now Bastion can just move back to cover in sentry form so its not too bad. I’m just happy they kept ironclad lol
Great vid, thanks! I didn’t start playing OW ‘til OW2 season 2, and though I started out as a Bastion main, I switched to maining supports. He’s still my 3rd most played hero though, & I look forward to practicing what you’ve taught in the vid
I'm not sure if this has been a thing since before the recent patch that buffed artillery and assault cooldown but you can actually fire the grenade while casting the transform animation to and from assault mode. It's been quite clutch. Also if you wanna artillery while coming back from spawn, you can rocket jumps forward and use the ult mid air to gain a bit more ground while sending your ult to the target. Good video though I've been loving the new bastion
i’m glad i found this video, it’s really helpful as i’m getting into overwatch and i really appreciate the well made video definitely deserves more attention
I also like to use his sticky bomb as a way to create distance, if an enemy is too close you can throw the nade to the floor and then do a sticky jump away from the enemy, this and the knockback applied to your opponent basically creates a mid range engagement.
Loved this video, im a masters Junkrat main but im trying to learn hitscan and Bastion is my introduction to aim-requiring heroes. I chose him cause he's cute asf and cause all the other hitscan dps (besides Tracer) are all boring. Are you planning on making a hero match-up video like you said at the end of this video?
Glad you liked the video! Unfortunately I haven’t played OW consistently in a long time so I’m probably not knowledgeable enough to make a video now, but if I get back into it again I definitely will!
Great Video, I always loved playing Bastion in Ow1. But in ow2 it just feels so... underwhelming. 6 seconds of Assault feels just.. Meh. I miss self heal when my healers were off fighting with the tanks. Grenade is fun however! What just really annoys me, is his gun. It used to be fun and easy, now it's so hard to fight with it. This guide provided a lot of helpful tips for that though! Still wish they'd give his rifle a slight buff!
I used to play the hell outta bastion back in 2018. Didn't get to play the game until recently, but this video's really helping me get the hang of him again.
as a bastion main, flanking is the most important skill to learn. not cross trekking the map, but holding a tight choke slightly behind the enemy team makes a huge difference for picks.
Hey, new Overwatch player here. Bastion is my favorite DPS, but I'm not super good at playing him. Thanks for these tips; they were clear and useful, and I am definitely going to utilize them the next time I play.
Hey man, I really appreciate this, I’ve played overwatch since it’s release and I’ve always kind of sworn off dps cause I never found the hero’s fun, but I’m ow2 I discovered bastion and have been having a lot of fun, and this video has helped me so much in climbing
I'm super glad you got something out of the guide and are having fun playing Bastion! Thank you for the nice comment, it really motivates me to keep making videos :)
You mentioned this briefly in the video but cannot stress this enough, bullying the enemies with no to little mobility with your ult is game changing. It's super annoying but when there is an ana on the enemy team I solo ult her every chance I get. Removing a support like ana out of the fight is a game changer. Also, one shot from your ult destroys a baptist immortality field so as long as you have two shots you can destroy the field and damage/kill.
the whole point of bastion, and by design his ult, is to zone enemies they have to respect you or they will instantly die, so the advice for artillery is really good. BUT if you wanna be dumb an use his ult for kills specifically you need to get in peoples heads. try faking them out by using two shots to zone an area and lead them into the third shot or wait until the very end of the ult to fire all three shots to make yourself unpredictable. If you wanna get better at using his ult i would advise playing against it yourself to see what your targets might be thinking
with the season 2 changes of shorter time for your artillery to come down and only 10 seconds cooldown on turret he is so much more fun to play now (ok maybe ive also learned how to properly aim too so that might play a role in it)
Back in 1 it seemed like recon and turret were starting to become more hand in hand throughout the updates, now it seems like turret is objectively better and recon is there to nerf it. Ramatra has the same issue with his 2 forms.
I’m a tf2 player, I have over 2,500 hours in that game and my friends made me install and play Overwatch 2, personally, I prefer TF2 still but I’m glad to see my skills as Heavy, Soldier and Demoman have transferred to Bastion, Pharaoh, and Junkrat. Amazing guide BTW, until now I’ve just been playing bastion exactly how I play heavy
Another smart way to use bastion ult is to place one mortar on the enemy and pay attention to the direction they flee to then cut them off with the following two mortars.
@@Tuskor I just think they should buff his dmg maybe by like 15% then bastion would finally be viable because he doesn’t do that much dmg 6 seconds isn’t long at all
@@oliverwatkins7397honestly they should make the ult better and maybe the primary fire quicker and he’d be good. MAYBE a tiny cooldown upgrade to 10 seconds or smth but all he needs are the first two
I know this is a lame question: But is there any strategy to getting his Incoming! achievement now? Been playing him a lot recently and am getting decent, but rarely get more than a single kill with Artillery.
I play a lot of sigma and have never really had much of a problem dealing with bastions I can poke him from long range then use suck to close the distance then shield and rock to stun and secure the kill. You only mentioned dva as a counter, what's your opinion as a higher level bastion playing against sigmas
Yeah on paper sigma is really good against bastion but at the time I never had a problem playing against him somehow. I use recon to bait out his cooldowns and then engage with assault when he’s vulnerable.
I love how blizzard made bastion an actual hero, he used to be one of the if not the easiest and strongest heroes in the game to one that requires good game sense and aim
