How do you match your shoes to your outfit? What does it mean to pick the right shoes out? Do you match your shoes to your outfit or your outfit to your shoes?! HELP! - In this short video, I answer all of that and more. Colour matching is usually easy for me because I have only two colours black and nude which goes with everything. The real challenge is to understand whether to wear wedges or pointed toe or block heels or pumps. It would have been more insightful if the video focussed on what type of shoes to wear with different outfits.

Hi Anubha - I really encourage you to watch the video I have on how to plan stylish outfits for the entire week. That video is linked in the description box. In it, I review my process for figuring out what the most appropriate style of (shoe, accessory, outfit, etc.) is for any given occasion. I intend on doing a follow up to this video, but it is going to take some time to film because there is a ton of variation to consider. I know people want me to just decisively state "X looks good with Y" - but I want everyone to be able to make that decision for themselves using the parameters / guidelines that I offer. To answer your question when it comes to wedges or pointed toe or block heels or pumps - that all depends on the method in that video. If it is warmer weather out - wedges are fine, but wearing a wedge heel (with traditional cork material) looks strange in cooler climates during the fall or winter. Wedges pair fine with jeans, pants, skirts, dresses etc. The color is the variation as is the season, occasion, formality, etc. Block heels tend to look more casual than pumps or pointed toe styles. The shoe you decide on is going to be a reflection of a variety of different decisions. In truth, every shoe you listed would look great with a pair of black jeans but what if you decide not to wear that? Then how do you pick the appropriate shoe? You have to consider Season, Occasion, Formality and Activity level. S.O.F.A I really hope that all makes sense to you (and to everybody reading this after I pin it!) - In choosing your shoe type there are so many factors - casual vs fancy styles, differences in heel height and heel shape - I hope to address everything in the follow up video - so please bear with me while I film it! 😀 (( thank you!!!))

I consider an animal print a patterned neutral. It looks great with solid colors, especially red because it's a 'power' print and looks good with a 'power' color without being too overwhelming.

Olive with the leopard print was what i was confused with, thanks so much for making this video. Gave me confidence to make that purchase for an upcoming event where im wearing an olive green dress and was soooo confused about what heels to purchase, i did think of leopard but wasnt sure and this made it easy. Very educational. I really liked the "theme " concept. I've never heard anything like that before, but it does make sense. I'm in Canada and if I wear red and white like our flag all day I'd be hearing jokes about looking like the flag. I do like the nautical and jungle themes though. Great video.

I have a pair of beautiful pink pointy pumps. I never wear them! The shade is like a pastel bubblegum pink not bright but not a nude pink either. When I try the color pulling method , I feel like the look is too girly but maybe the dresses are too girly? My favorite way to wear them is with a black dress. I do agree with you that it looks better if the shoe is slightly darker than the outfit. Any ideas or inspiration outfits?

I often follow the theme concept just because my clothes tends to represent my personality which is combination of early 2000s Avril Lavigne and 2010s Ariana grande. I can wear sneakers and skateboard to school (I used to) or I can wear heels or wedges and accessorize with a jacket. Now that my hair has multiple colors I often pick a color or tones of colors from my hair to match my outfit or shoe

Sometimes I also make my outfit a blank canvas (such as a plain black dress and accessories and make the shoe stand out by going with a fun pop of color or unique shoe for for a nice look.

I’m going on a cruise n I’m trying to bring less shoes but my outfits need shoes that match or at least go together. I’m having having trouble figuring out what looks best with the navy slacks. I have a problem with my polka dot high heels. White base, black dots and bright red heels and bows, material is satin. They are absolutely adorable but I just can't pair them with anything. Would you have any suggestions?

To me that description screams Rock'n'Roll, so maybe you could use that as a theme and wear a 50s style dress (fitted top + flared skirt) in a solid black or white. I would keep it simple so the shoes can be the statement piece. A subtle way to match the red in the shoes could be a red lip.

Hi Hanna - I would go for either a monochromatic look using either red, white, or black. Or only use two of the colors from the shoe in your outfit. For example, black jeans, white top, the polka dot heels and a solid red handbag if you have one. When a pattern is that attention-grabbing, it is best to let it do it's thing and match the rest of the outfit to the shoe! :) I hope that helps / makes sense.

I have a problem. I wear mostly navy in autumn and my autumn shoes are black. I need black because I have tho shirts and sweater that ae black. To my navy I can wear only navy or beige shoes but beige are hard to find. And to my black I need to wear black. So instead of one or two pairs of ankle boots I need 3 or 4 and I dont have money for that

I had read a long time ago that any shade of green will match any shade of green. The same is true of any shade of peach will complement any shade of peach.

Hi Wanda, I agree with that statement. I mentioned in the video matching with a slightly darker shade of shoe - but that is a preference of mine. Different shades look good to the eye - this especially looks good with a monochromatic style outfit.

Anita, I would say yes. If you are referring to the video where I said a slightly darker tone, that is just a preference of mine. I think wearing the same color exactly looks fine. Some people think it matches too much, but I think it can look regal.

Hi Neelu - yes, I call it the "B.B.S" bag, belt, shoes! Its a great way to look pulled together from head to toe, and YES it can and should be different from your clothes 😄
