How's everyone's week going so far? Hopefully you're all ready for a little styling advice and some outfit inspiration:) So today I'm sharing a few style tips of how you can easily update your wardrobe with some very simple styling tweaks. Making 'old' clothes feel new again and how I keep my wardrobe organized. It's an organized mess I promise! As always love to hear from you all, do you have a favourite style tip you think you could easily integrate into your own outfits? Big hugs everyone, looking forward to hearing from you all below, Jess:)
I like these kind of videos very much because I don’t want to buy new things. I am retired and 68 years old and I have a nice classic minimal wardrobe. I just go on videos and try to find new ways of putting together things in my closet, thank you for this video
Video idea: I’d love to see a video of how to shop/dress when your body is in transition between sizes. So many women are in flux many times throughout life, be it with pregnancy or health conditions or even deliberate body modification or lifestyle changes…and still want to look their best and move through their current phase/season confidently.
I have been wanty to purge my closets for some time. Mostly because it was taking so long for me to get dressed in the morning. I did some decluttering and that helped however I found it more useful to do weekly outfit planning. It has allowed me to be more creative and utilize more of my clothes. Also saving me so much time in the morning. I still want to do some more purging however my initial issue has been solved.
And they're thinner to work with than thermals aren't they:) Do you ever cut the feet out of the tights too? I find that can work better sometimes aswell:)
Lots of ideas indeed Jess, right now I identify myself as an onion, layer after layer with this cold weather... I'm definitely trying the fancy socks to add some fun in my outfits. Thank you 💐
Haha love that! Feeling very 'Onionyfied' here too! It's soooo cold at the moment isn't it:/ And I'm thinking that'll stick around for a while longer yet! Actually in truth at the moment, as soon as I've finished work I'm snuggling into my new (Christmas pressie) dressing gown to keep warm which is just bliss! Fancy socks and tights all the way for the forseeable! Have a lovely evening Elena and get a good electric blanket wrapped round you:)
I normally don’t comment on videos BUT I really liked this one. If I could give you several thumbs up I would. I live in the US but this these tips were very helpful. I’m trying to be a more conscious shopper and using what I already own in creative ways is a must. Thank you 😊
That's a lovely comment thank you so much:) I'm really pleased you enjoyed the video. Have a lovely rest of the weekend and although today's video will be a haul hopefully you can take some inspiration of how to style similar pieces you already have x
Hi Jess, I recently did a big clear out of my wardrobe because my colors have changed. Stopped dyeing my brown hair and now I’m grey so most of the camel tones went out and I’m wearing black, grey and ivory on rotation. I still have my denim shirts though, one light blue and one dark as they mix well.
Hey mid-week Jess 🙂. I don't really change my wardrobe much through the seasons apart from the really thin summer dresses etc I generally wear the same things. Layering is def key and then when I have a hot flush I can start shedding! Thermals under skirts and trousers really means you can wear so much more of your stuff. I just wish I could fit a blazer over my warmer jumpers but they bunch up too much under the armpits and shoulders. Oh & I find a fluffy cat sat on your lap warms u up a treat too😻See u Sun x
Hi Jo, lovely to hear from you:) Maybe think about sizing up in your blazers next time you invest in one, I often do that so it gives me more versatility once it's cold. P.S I filmed that video idea you gave me the other day so thanks again for that:) I found I had loads of tips to share on that front once I started thinking about it so hopefully you will all find it helpful. Big hugs lovely x
Haha love that! Yep, it's developed into a healthy obsession here but I happily wear them all so I'm thinking they were all worth it! Happy new year lovely and thanks so much for popping by:) x
It is yes:/ I tend to let myself off this 'rule' if it's in trousers as it's nigh on impossible to avoid but with everything else I find there are some great alternatives. And nice to see more of the high street reaching for Lyocell, Tencle and ecovero variations. I'm not sure cost wise how much that differes when brands are manufacturing but it's so worth it if they can suffer the missing extra pennies:)
Hello 👋🏽 my friend, Jess thank you for saying get different styles of say pants within your chosen color palette. I used to do what your husband, David does & purchase a pair of pants I love in several different colors. Then I wonder why I am bored with my wardrobe🤦🏽♀️. I now have 3 different shapes of trousers in charcoal grey, slate blue & ecru. I have some color within my neutral palette & my clothes look chic. I so appreciate you. Great video. Abbey has the best job working with you. Thank you 😊. Cheers 😉🌷
Good morning Angela, hope you've had a wonderful week lovely:) It's so tempting isn't it! You find a pair of trousers you like so why wouldn't you buy them in all the colours it comes in! But it sounds like you came to the same realisation yourself that certainly in that earlier stages of creating the perfect capsule wardrobe, those same styles could get boring quite quickly. Eventually it's nice to branch out, but initially getting that core just how you like it is helpful:) Big hugs lovely and happy Sunday to you and yours x
@@FashionStyleEdit Thank you 😊 my fashion guru. I've learned so much from you about style, fashion & do's/& maybe not for you's. Sitting down with a cuppa ready to watch tonight's episode of my friend, Jess 😊❤️.
You lost me on the denim shirt not fitting in with the rest of your wardrobe. Yes, it's a different colour from the others but it pairs beautifully with the profusion of neutrals. It's perfect with the 1000 shades of camel in there, for one thing, and a denim shirt is incredibly useful for styling.
It really was just an example of how to weed items out items from your closet if they aren’t serving the overall capsule look. She repeatedly says throughout all her videos that her style is just her style. If you have a closet filled with denim or even a shirt that you love to wear, Jess would be the first person to say to go for it. I, too have a denim shirt I love and recently wore with the same camel Christie blazer she has. It looked wonderful and I won’t be getting rid of it anytime soon. I love her style and advice and it’s helped me refine my wardrobe immensely. Thanks Jess!
Yeah, it is more about the style or material I would think for her… If it’s your style, it will pair with most. Like a basic tshirt.. But if it’s not your style, it’s not your style. I tried Denim Shirts last year, yes, I got “influenced”, but gave it to my daughter after 6 month, since I hadn’t even taken the tag off…. Just not my style. Great on others, not for me 😊
My guess is that a denim shirt styled with what she already has in her wardrobe won’t give her the look/style she likes to evoke. The wording used was probably not fully highlighting what it is about the denim top that makes her not reach for it. My best guess would be not just colour, but shape, fit, and feel of fabric. I personally love looks with jeans on bottom but wouldn’t style a denim dress or top. Just not something I would feel comfortable in, even if I definitely could find items that would go with it. But that’s my style now. A few years ago I had a couple nice denim tops and even loved the Canadian tux look. ❤
Really enjoy your videos. Will do the color thing with my wardrobe. Agree with quality over quantity, had some tweed jackets for donkeys and a cashmere scarve for 25 years that looks like new. Also have a denim shirt I never wear I don’t really know why….
Hello Jess, I don't know if you remember but I contacted you about a Chlo blouse from Sézane. I loved the style but came across one where the top front button opened. You suggested I strengthen the sewing button, which I've kept in mind. But above all, I dared to buy the same model (same size) in navy blue. It's absolutely gorgeous, the colour is very luminous, and it goes with everything in my wardrobe... What's more, the button doesn't open. Just goes to show, it was a defect with the previous model. But what I can say above all is a big THANK YOU for the suggestion and long live Chlo!
Hey Jess, I hope you are well. I loved this video. Great ups for adapting our wardrobe staples for the winter. ❄️ ⛄️. Also, the importance to declutter, but don’t throw it away as it will come back in fashion. I wish I’d kept pieces from my early 20s.. ❤ xx
Hey lovely, a good declutter can feel amazing can't it:) Though I wish my Mum hadn't been so good at it way back when, I'd have loved to have so many of the pieces she wore! How's your week been lovely? It's getting a touch cold atm isn't it, I've whacked up the heating (dreading seeing that bill) but it's the only way right now! Big hugs hun and hope you're having a lovely weekend:)
Jess! I love your work!! Absolutely adore your style. Would love to know more about your skin care routine and also selecting color pallets to one skin tones - is that anything that you care about on trend? Love you! Thank you so much for your amazing work! By the way, you and I are the same age and I have to tell you you are absolutely stunning.well done! From one Mom to another- ❤Jessica From Chicago
Such a lovely well timed video. I've started to purge anything that has polyester in my closet because I hate the piling that usually accompanies it after time. Thank you and happy New Year.
I totally get that! And I bet a good purge felt good, it always makes me feel so calm once I've decluttered my wardrobe;)I I live in hope that one day the high street will be swamped in lyocell instead!
I like how you showed your personal colour palette, this is helpful. Not sure if you use colour season typing, but would you say that you’re a soft autumn? Just curious! Thank you for another great video
So glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful. I don't personally use that colour season type system but I know a lot of others do and find it helpful:) Have a wonderful rest of the week lovely and hopefully see you for Sunday's video!
Great tips. Thank you! Though I actually think a wider belt looks better with bulkier fabrics, like a pair of jeans. Maybe I'm stuck in fashion yesteryear with that one, but I've tried it and it doesn't seem to work for me.
Happy New Year and million thanks for another great video. Recently, I treated myself to a new, beautiful, big closet. My intention was to have a better understanding of my wardrobe, plus lots of space for everything. Funnily enough, it's half empty, and I don't feel an urgent need to fill it up. Maybe because my shopping has become more conscious in the past years and I allow myself to invest only in quality pieces. That mindset has been helpful, but there were times when I really didn't have the means to do that, raising 5 kids more or less on my own. Inspired by my now young adults, I try to buy second-hand before running to a shop. It's incredibly satisfying to get an unworn pair of shoes that normally would cost 500 euros for 100 euros 😅 Your content and your work are highly appreciated by a 60 year old "girl" in Salzburg. ❤
Blazers just make an outfit don't they:) But totally get that re your work:/ My friend is a hairdresser and she says she finds she has to wear her worst clothes for work so she doesn't ruin her favourite pieces with colour!
Hi Jess, love your videos, I too am a blazer girl, so versatile. please could you help with footwear ? I have just recently started wearing kitten heels again instead of flat everything...and am finding my feet lifting from the back of the shoe as I walk, is there some sort of insert that can stop this ? be really grateful for any advice. looking forward to your next video. Laura 😊
Love all the tips! I'm trying to add a navy blazer into my mix. The one I ordered stinks... I'm trying to air it out. Perhaps I should return it? How do you find quality blazers and coats (but not too $$$) that aren't polyester??
Oh yes definitely return if it’s got a funny smell, you shouldn’t have to deal with that:/ It is hard to find blazers without polyester, even from some of my favourite brands, but not impossible. And at least if they use recycled polyester that’s a good start🙌🏻 If you take a look at my website I’m always adding new blazers and pieces I’ve found across the high street that I think are worth the pennies so hopefully you’ll find a few good options there:) Have a lovely day Kristen x
Thanks Jess, I need to check out your website! Love your content here. Hope you are having a great day... or perhaps had a great one as you are a few hours ahead of me!
Great information, thank you. can you please discuss some syle tips from yesteryears. Should your belt and shoes match? should your handbag and shoes match? should your jewellery match your top, i.e., blue earrings with blue top? should your jewellery all match, i.e., matching earrings with necklace? not sure if these are classic styling tips or now outdated?
May I make a suggestion? You’re so lovely and your content is good, however, it would be more enjoyable to listen to you speaking if you could slow yourself down a bit. I admire anyone who can consistently produce videos as quality as you do, so this is not a criticism by any means, I wish you the best. Just breathe and relax a bit and I will enjoy your content all the more. Thank you!
That is helpful, constructive criticism so I’m not offended at all:) I will try and slow down a little and also I have it edited pretty choppy but maybe I shouldn’t? It’s almost a habit social media creators get into, videos are getting faster and faster, I guess as peoples attention span is getting shorter and shorter! But I have often thought this doesn’t really apply to my age group as we are used to slower, long form content:) Talking aloud here but I’m more than happy to make the edit slower too if that’s something most people would prefer?☺️
@@FashionStyleEdit in this particular video you hd such a great amount of content, I can understand trying to keep in a shorter time frame via editing etc. Maybe it’s me, I just like enjoying it more not that I can’t keep up, just why rush through it? If there is such a lot to say, and share, and show us which you do well, maybe split it into a series or shorter videos same content more air time? Thank you for listening and responding!
I absolutely love you and the content in you videos. I've gotten so many wonderful ideas to implement in my own wardrobe. I like when you deliver the information in a more relaxed way. Love the chit chat style. I can sit down with my coffee and "savor" the video.
@@Artzenflowers Yes, I too think this content could have been spread over two videos. Perhaps with a lead in inspo pic for each point - either Jess herself in an outfit, or someone else. I think there could also be a video suggestion along these lines. > We see Jess in four or five Winter looks she's been repeating. Can she refresh those looks mid-season with other pieces she's happy to wear. Like a personal challenge. And then she shows us the first four or five looks redone, or reworked.😊
@@comealongcomealong4480 overall great content, I know I couldn’t do what she does, but yes, those could be interesting scenarios. I will leave that up to her. ☺
Hi Sally, I think if you're used to them and feel comfortable wearing them then there's nothing wrong with that at all:) I just personally find them a little awkward to wear and prefer layering with thermal spearates instead:)
