How to Measure Secchi and Site Depth 

A Secchi disk is used to measure how deep a person can see into the water. It is lowered into the lake until the observer loses sight of it indicating how deep light can penetrate. Depth is measured when the Secchi disk reaches the lake bottom and there's slack in the measuring tape.
