Make a flag with the tape instead, much easier to tell when it's made a revolution.

So basically however many inches the cleaning rod goes down the barrel before it makes one full rotation is the twist rate? For ex.: Rod goes in 12 in. before full rotation, so twist rate is 1:12 Or rod goes in 14 in. before full rotation, so twist rate is 1:14? Am I right?

You got it
@109268
@109268 6 лет назад
@1kparmar because it makes a full rotation sooner. In your example, 1 in 7 is almost twice as fast because the bullet makes a full rotation every 7 inches, as opposed to 12.

Now, explain how twist rates effect the different weights of bullets in the 20 caliber family...?

If I had a 22 in Barrel with 1 and 9 Barrel twist chambered in 223/ 5.56 with 5r rifling what would be the heaviest grade copper bullet like the TSX it would stabilize?
@ZhuJo99
@ZhuJo99 6 лет назад
Gee Sss i think it really depends on longness of the straight part of bullet itself. I have found out I can comfortably stabilize copper Frontier 55 gr. Bullets in my 1:7 twist rate as those are not boattail and thus have longer straight body. Yet FMJ bullets from GGG or Prvi are not possible to be stabilized at 55 gr. One would say you can’t stabilize copper plated bullets at regular loads of powder in faster twist rates as those would vaporize after getting out of barrel, yet those Frontiers work very well (1 MOA from my SIG M400). Those bullets have very thick copper plating so that definitely helps.

I actually used this method on the rem 700 sps in 300blk. It was rumored that barrels snuck through improperly stamped 1:7 but were actually 1:10.... i confirmed this and actually confirmed that the replacement Huntington sent me was also incorrect.

Ever notice when someone is talking about how they are having problems with certain loads of ammo or their reloads they always talk about velocity bullet weight and powder used? but when you ask what twist rate their rifle has they always ask, What's that got to do with anything? LOL I sure do and then when I start explaining the math of the twist rate bullet length and diameters and optimization of velocity and RPMs of a bullet they say, I lost them when I said math LOL I tell them, Dude you need to start all over again and learn about the math before you reload any more rounds whatsoever as not only a way to save ammo testing different loads but to keep that rifle from blowing up in your face and killing you

Do you go through the muzzle end just for this purpose or do you also use this method for cleaning also. I have heard that you should go through the breach end to avoid pushing powder, copper etc. into the receiver ...

I need help can you guys make a video about what guns are good for left handed shooters that dont break the bank? I feel very limited with my options probably because I prefer revolvers over semis but I cant find any revolvers.
@hamm6033

I believe the most important thing to know is the rate of twist. The reason for it. The importance of knowing the bullet weight relationship with the rate of twist. I have met so many shooters that are oblivious to the relationship. They have no idea why their rifle will not shoot to the same point of aim all the time. Example: I'll use .308, you have a 1-11 or 1-12 that shoots a 168+ grain very well will not shoot a 140 or 150 as well. Sometimes with a large change in impact point vs point of aim. The differences in impact from a 1-7 to a 1-12 in .223, very much needed. It would be great if you guys could plant that seed of information.

Push the patch in and then hold the marker on the rod and push it through making one long line that spirals around the rod you can see the twist better and it works for gain twist too

Please let me know what kind of toolbox that is on the right. I've been looking for something like that for my job, but I can't find it. I've looked at Pelican, Plano, and others and can't find it. Specifically looking for an orange box. Is it an old model that might be discontinued?

1. Look into barrel. 2. Count number of complete turns rifling makes. 3. Measure barrel length. 4. Divide.
