Let’s sew easy pants mini-series is back! This is episode 3 and it’s all about taking important body measurements like crotch length, crotch depth, waist and full hip circumference. That was probably the most thorough explanation of how to measure correctly for a pair of pants I have ever seen! Thank you for explaining all of the details and why they are important and what the measurements are for exactly. Can't wait for the next video in the series. Wow! I've never seen anything so comprehensive about exactly how to fit your own pants. I knew a lot of it just from sewing pants for myself, but I didn't KNOW it, I didn't know the reasoning or understand exactly why things didn't always work for me and how I could have fixed them had I known. This series will absolutely become a classic for any one who sews and would like to either try pants or to create better pants for themselves. August 28, 2024. OMG Thank you so much! I watched many other videos and my one BIG question was “should I include the waistband in the measurements?” Guess what no one brought that up, except you and that was a game changer….. that was what I needed to know, gave me confidence and the rest fell into place. Wow Karina...what a great series. Today’s video is one of the best I have ever seen on the beginnings of fitting pants. I have been sewing seriously for several years...I make most of my clothes. Karina you are amazing. This is the best in-depth information on the best fit for trousers I have ever seen. I have been sewing for many many years, ( I work in a men’s tailors) but I have always been scared of fitting trousers for myself. I’m only 5 ft 3” and have struggled to get the perfect fit. This is brilliant information on how to do that. I can’t wait for the next trouser muslin fitting video. 😁💡👍🏻❤️

Tell me about it. I think for my daily life, I’d be happy to have 2-3 well fitting woven pants only and make design tweaks to those, than sewing lots of different ones.

The curve that causes the crotch "smiles" or drag lines is an improper crotch width. An adult of normal size, is about 6 to 7 inches. and is measured at the 2 inch mark above the crotch. The best way I know of to measure it is to take a pair of woven (jeans) that fit you well (and snug) turn inside out sticking one leg inside of the other. If this pants fit perfect then you have the exact measurements for the front and back rise along with the crotch width.

I just made an amazing Green style Skort and even when I did the high waist in the back it is pulling down as a low waist. I just realized from this video I needed to add about 6" to the backside inseam/length/depth even taking into account the waistband. The front is fine but the backside WAY off. So the undershorts are pulling down my skort. Thank you so much you just made my year.

Karina, this series is just FABULOUS. I've been away from garment sewing a long time and "back in the day" I had a friend who was very expert at pattern adjustment and she would just zip zip change my patterns and so I never learned to do it myself. I just very successfully used this series to make a pair of shorts that were wearable from the get go. And pair number two are perfect. Thank you!!!!

Even 2 years after you making this video Karina, the explanations are so helpful, useful and understandable for me. (A light bulb went on!) I wish I had (the time) to watch these video back then. I have only made knit leggings although I have purchased every pants pattern you mentioned (in your previous pant fit videos). This gives me the knowledge of how and why the pattern curve! What an awesome series for fitting pants. You’re covering so much that makes sense and I’m actually retaining it. I have made leggings but haven’t ventured into pants yet. I do have the Love Notions Allegro pattern and the Sew Over It Ultimate Trousers pattern. I bought the fabrics and they are washed and good to go, but not before I do a muslin. I don’t usually do muslins but think with pants I do need to do them. Thank you for making this very helpful series on pant fitting. This series I have bookmarked so far. Very much a keeper.
