Memorize airspace with a very simple trick I came up with. What I am calling "The 313 method" for understanding airspace and visibility. I Never understood all the other memory tricks for learning airspace so I came up with this to help me. Maybe it will help you too.

I commented years ago that this was helpful for my PPL written exam. I thought you’d be happy to know I’ve been a CFI now for a few years and have been using this with every one of my students! Even have passed this video to other CFIs to use. Haven’t found anything else that makes cloud clearances/visibility more easy. Thanks again!

Took my FAA written exam this week and the first thing I did when I sat down was draw this. I had 7 questions regarding airspace and nailed them all! I ended up scoring a 97 percent. It would have been a heck of alot less without your drawing! Thanks again.

I've taught Private Pilot Ground School for years and my students' most difficult area has consistently been airspace weather minima. This video makes it quite easy to remember, if not permanently, at least for the written. I am encouraging my students use this man's conceptual drawing from now on!!

I came here for satire and have left with a greater understanding of airspace that I didn't want. I'm going to have to erase that knowledge with wine and go back to just making a turn when the GPS flashes red just before I infringe.

This is good. I quickly learned it as there will be 3 Cessna 152s below 10k and 5 F-111s above 10k. You need more clearance above 10k because F111s are fast and need more time to react!

This video was HUGE for me. When reviewing all the VFR Weather Minimum Questions, after studying this drawing, and drawing it myself 10 times, I have it burned into my mind and dont even need to draw it anymore to answer the questions. The 1 question I struggled with was Class B, probably because it is so easy that I didnt spend the 30 seconds requires to learn B = 3SM and Clear of Clouds. Nice job, bro. Thank you!
@Roca891
@Roca891 3 года назад
Very nicely done. I tell students that they don't need to worry about forgetting this while they're flying. The most restrictive cloud clearances below 10,000' is 3-152. If you do that anytime, day or night, below 10k, you'll be legal. VFR pilots shouldn't be flying in any weather worse than that anyway.
@Justin-ny8df

I LOVED this. A little addition I like to do to help myself (for those that need it). Put the 1/5/2 in a reverse mixed fraction. Example being: Class E - 3 1/5 2 (3 followed by a dash, 1 over 5 to show above/below and the 2 off to the side to show horizontal).

I should have commented earlier! I was struggling to memorize and learn airspace for my written a year and a half ago. Thankfully I found this video in my despair when there were only just a few "views" at the time. I proceeded to ace my written and all of the airspace questions because of this. I sat and wrote this down on the blank piece of paper before anything else and knew i didn't have to worry about any of the airspace questions. I also showed it to my CFI who was impressed with the ease of learning this. Thank you for coming up with this and I hope many others will use this to learn their airspace!

Very well done! I earned my private during the written in part because I found this video 2 days before the test. GAME CHANGER. And Im back again now to refresh due to the same material coming up in the instrument rating class. I (kinda) forced my instructor to stop class and put your mug on the big screen while all the other students watched and took notes. They too are dumbfounded in the simplicity that you have created here. Again, well done! This should be in the Sporty's training and the prepware!

Perfect video! Took the FAA PAR last week and earned a 93%. About 5 questions on the exam that I was able to answer because of this video. I used your video during ground school to help learn airspace. On test day, it took about 30 seconds to drawn out your method on the blank paper provided. I referenced it during the exam. Also, once you draw it out a few times, you will begin to recall the information from memory. You kind of "see" it in your head. Thanks for doing this video. Anyone taking the exam should spend a few minutes learning this method vs trying to memorize the tables and graphs. I also put this on my knee board for flying. THANKS!!

Hello, as an AGI I teach piloted aviation and drone aviation as a middle school teacher. I have sat and tried to make something like this (without much luck) that would be easily remembered. As I am redesigning and revamping much of my curriculum this Summer, I came across your video and it is perfect. You did exactly what I was hoping to accomplish, but now I don't have to sit here for hours trying to figure a way to get young students to lock all of this in. Thank you so much for posting this.

This may sound strange but I'm a recently retired airline pilot and after 30+ years of the security of IFR I'm a bit apprehensive about bouncing around VFR. I haven't worried much about airspace (except departing and arriving DCA) in decades! When you're IFR you're operating on a clearance and ATC won't issue a clearance that violates airspace constraints. When I was a student, IFR worried me, now VFR is worrisome. Great job.

This is really useful for the sport pilot ground school too, the only minor caveat is the license restriction on visibility. So whatever is the most restrictive takes precedence for visibility. So for Daylight in a class G it becomes 3 152 instead of 1 152 and 3 and clear instead of 1 and clear. Night doesn't matter because sport pilots can't fly at night, but it's still easy enough to remember since it's 3 152 So this become super easy to remember for a sport pilot Class B - 3 and Clear class G below 1200 AGL - 3 and Clear everything else below 10k - 3 152 EG above 10k - 5 111 ( We can't fly above 10k so this also doesn't matter) Your method is easy enough to remember and personally helped me a lot.

With the exception of a video of yours I watched where you were flying with a child this is the only other video that I have seen where it is not a satire. I was hesitant to watch thinking I would forget everything I thought I knew, but this was spot on, thanks.
