Thank you. I have one question to ask. Can I use the same material to repair a Japanese-made Donabe. The thing is that sometimes the temperature could go up to somewhere higher than 130C on an oven top. But the chip is on the outside rim of its cover and is not big. Could the donabe remain food safe after the repair. I learned that Kintsugi is also an option, but your method seems easier. Thank you.

Hello! I purchased a very lovely ceramic bowl made in Portugal and there was a large chip (imagine a bite out of a cookie - that kind of size). I have a couple of the chips but the others were just shards. They could not replace it, there were no more so they refunded my money. Can I fix this bowl in the same manner as explained in your video? Should I try to fit these chips in? Would this milliput product be food safe? I was going to use it for plants but wanted to fix first, and now I see your video and think I may be able to use it still for making breads and such.

Hello, Allison. I have a brown betty teapot with a chip on the edge of the lid broken off (I have the piece) and two small chips. Can the epoxy be used to stick on the small chipped piece as well as cover the the small chips? Can it be painted as well? Thanks for listening.
@theceramicrepairstudio
@theceramicrepairstudio 2 года назад
Hi there, you could glue the small pieces back on the lid, and fill in with Milliput if there are any missing pieces. One word if warning though, if you are going to use the teapot lid the stream will properly soften the glue and break again, depending where the piece is one the lid. Otherwise mend only for display. I hope this helps and please let me know how you get on. 😀

Hi Alison, if you use two-part epoxy products a lot, you can get very sensitized to them, so you might want disposable gloves for what you are doing. After the two-part products have cured, they are very inert, and there is no concern about contact. In practice, the concern might not apply nearly as much to the putty, because it doesn’t have the honey consistency that most two-part epoxy products have, but in principle it still does. Thanks for the nice vid, from an Ahmericaan that loves hearing the Queen’s English. ~Brian

Many thanks for watching and commenting, you don't need to apply a varnish although I tend to. There is a Winsor and Newton glaze which is easier to get hold of although not sure on the performance. Hello, I have just discovered your channel which is rather timely give the chipped bowl I brought from an antique fair last weekend. I have purchased some Milliput and have set aside the afternoon for filling in the chip and no doubt trying to get the remaining Milliput that I will spill out of the carpet ( I have a history with fillers). Given I am only trying to repair a chip the size of a 5 pence coin I did not really want to buy a whole bottle of Rustins Ceramic Glaze ( I do not intent to make this a career move) however I do already have in a bottle of Winsor & Newton Artists Acrylic Glazing Medium, would you know if this is the same thing? I tried looking on the W&N website for a ceramic glaze but it does not list one with that exact name. I would appreciate your opinion please even if it is to only turn the bowl round so no one can see the chip . Thank you and have a good weekend.
@theceramicrepairstudio
@theceramicrepairstudio 3 года назад
Hi Kate, thanks for you comment, I really appreciate it. Hopefully your carpets will be fine as Milliput is a putty and not liquid, so easy to control. With regards to Rustins it is very difficult to get hold of, I think it us a Swiss brand, as well as expensive. I think Winsor and Newton Acylic glaze is a good next alternative on being able to find easily and also price. Please let me know how you get on. 😀

I have a Staffordshire trinket pot that had previously glued, (not very well) with super glue. Can I soak it in acetone to break it apart again? Many thanks.

Hi Gilly, I would first try soaking it in hot water first, it should weaken the super glue. If using acetone make sure you don't touch any gilding if any. In a well ventilated room with a mask on , take a cotton bud with acetone on put onto the glue cracks, wrap in clingfilm for 12 hrs. Hope that helps, let me know how you get on.! 🥰

You intentionally taaaalk sloooow to drag the video out, repeat yourself and fill with nonsense when this should have realistically taken 4mins to deliver the exact same steps effectively. Thanks for the video but it was torture to get through.
