This makes sense but it is SOOOOO invasive! Most of my brides hate wearing a garter, let alone a massive leg strap...

I agree, it's overkill for most weddings and never had an issue with grooms mic even for outdoor weddings. The only time I use this is when I've got two brides and then I'll mic up one of the brides

For the NeoPax leg strap, which pouch size works for the DR-10L? Standard or small? I assume you want it the 10L to fit snugly in the pouch.

I’ve put a mic on some of our brides and it was really helpful!! But what do you do if the bride has dress that has that see-through fabric between the bust and the waist?? Or what if the dress is really tight? Does the wire show through? Do you ever have to put the mic around the ankle?

How do you record a prayer or something that comes up randomly? Do you say "Wait everyone, I have to go under the brides skirt to start her mic."?? The record time isn't long enough to go all day is it?

We start the recording before we put on the mic and leave it running until we take it off. I have had a bride have the mic on for as long as 4 hours with no problems.

Putting a mic on the bride is king for us, but we do it with a different method, as we do get some tight dresses or very fine materials. Its nice to see how someone else does it and it opens the doors to more people to consider it. Its not scary once you get a swing of it.

Would you be able to share how you do it with tight dresses? It's my first time mic'ing the bride and I'm concerned she'll be wearing a tight dress as the lav cord will definitely show through.

Great question 🤷🏻‍♂️. I know I filmed using my 5d4 with a 50 1.2 for the tripod shots and a 5d4 with a 35 1.4 on the gimbal shots.

Is this real-time? Because of covid, I'm listed to 9 people and I'm going to be filming and streaming over zoom for the majority. Im looking for the best way I can get with the simplest monitoring so my aunt can do it with a little training.

I have the white DR-10L but have only used it once on a bride. If the bride is doing a speech, would you recommend just leaving the lab mic on under the dress after the ceremony.

If the bride is doing a speech at the reception, then your main audio recorder (H6 or whatever) will be patched into the powered speakers or the audio board and will record that. I would try my best to get the mic off the bride while she's being bustled by the Bridesmaids, just to make her more comfortable for the rest of the day/night.

I shot such a beautiful wedding, but the sound of the vows from bride from either the mic of the groom and officiant are garbage :'(. You are so right, it is all good enough until it's not :-) Thanks for the vid!!

Both brides and grooms can be less than thrilled about being mic'd for things. If you now have to have them wearing a leg strap I could see the bride getting annoyed. (I just wish there was a less invasive method) BUT I haven't tried it yet so I don't know... I like the idea of having a brief conversation both in the meeting and on the day about it though. I bet that will help the process.

Jonathan Perkins (John here), as of now I have never mic’d the bride. I too wish there was a better way. But nicks audio is CLEAN of the bride. It would have saved my butt so many times. Nick having a female counterpart filming with him helps too. But.. if you have a bridesmaid help you, that could do the trick. They wear a garter all day and forget its there. Same with the mic.

Yeah, we haven't had much trouble with it at all - all we do is tell the brides that we mic them and that it's 100% normal (which to them it is). Most forget that the strap is even there. Talking about it before hand helps SO much. I've had 3 brides not wear a mic (in over 25) since we've started doing this. 2 because their dresses wouldn't allow for it and 1 because she was nursing on her wedding day and didn't want to mess with it.

No need to mic the bride. Mix the groom and use your audio recorder since most of the ceremonies have Dj’s. Or have the bride & groom pre-record their vows when everything fails.
