You are the first person I've seen use this technique with long lumber. Thank you so much!

the trick with the non slip material is great. I had only ever used it to stop things sliding on my desk.

When people comment on these older videos it always makes me chuckle because I usually have to go and rewatch them to see what I said because I don't remember.

This is extremely helpful. Looking forward to trying this as I have been frustrated with cupped and twisted lumber. Best part is having all of the components you utilized. Thank you!

Yeah, it can be a little time consuming doing it this way, but if you don't have a joiner like me, it's a life saver.

These milling videos are so thorough, thank you!! I learned so much from them. I saw in your kitchen table video you milling with a chainsaw, did you do an explanation on that?

Your jointer looks pretty easy to use and make. The explanation that you give is clear and easy to understand. Now I know what to do with the free spacer wood (4x4x36") I get. Thanks for posting.

Thanks! I always wonder if I windbag it too much, and that these videos are too long. Nice to hear it is helpful.

At 27:35 you point out the planer snipe; my experience with this is that the snipe is the result of the weight of the overhanging board which levers up the short end when entering & exiting the planer. I have reduced this snipe to negligible amounts by lifting up the overhanging end slightly higher than the planer bed horizontal plane, both going in & coming out.

I just found you yesterday and knew I had to subscribe right away. I've used a jig like your planer jig before and I had seen one like you used to joint the edge. I had figured you would use the first jig and attach the board to it with edge hanging over and use the str8 side of the melamine against the fence. I've never tried that, but I have 30 bd ft of rough sawn cherry I need to get edges on for a glue up. Now I have to decide which way to go lol I have an ancient 4 inch Delta jointer, it's useless for large scale lumber

I saw a few videos with it done that way and that seems to work just as well. I don't have those surface mount hold down clamps and didn't want to wait for any to come in the mail. So I opted for the fence jointed method. But, in general both seem to work. I think once you have the one I went with made it is easier to set up and use consistently. The boards I was jointed were 6+ feet and lining that up so the first cut is flush and sending the whole thing through the saw is a little more cumbersome I felt.

I am a little concerned about the mat on the planer sled. If that were to get sucked up into the knives it would be a real mess. The "jointer fence" is brilliant. Thanks for posting. Wonder if you could move the fence to the other side of the blade to have more room for a feather board?

slipping between the work piece and the sled can be reduced a bit by waxing the bottom of the sled. I use wooden dowels to hold the cleat in place on my sled. I'm afraid of what would happen if I hit screws with my plane blades.

Ok what is the difference between a carpentry and construction working?
@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks
@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks 6 лет назад
I always thought construction was the process of building a building and carpentry was the person who did it. I think on a job the carpenter is a more specialized version of a construction worker, probably makes more money. But what do I know.

What does jointed, mean? ( not a riddle)

It may have been easier to plane had you cut the piece into the rough dimensions you were needing. Those long pieces are difficult to work with and a lot of material is taken off the ends.

Honey Badger? any relation to the anti-feminist females of ‘honey badgers’ with Karen straughn? Love those gals

Beyond what I expect is a mutual adoration for the animal, naw no relation.
