You're changing chords pretty quickly, which can be tough at first. And your finger pressure is pretty controlled, so you're doing great!

I know I shouldn't listen on a laptop but your "from this...to this" didn't sound hugely different. It's not like one was poorly recorded and the improved version was amazing. Shows that mixing so that things "translate" on different playback scenarios...such as a laptop...is very challenging. I'm sure the improved version of the acoustic is much better in the mix. But it's weird we don't always hear soloed sources to be greatly improved.

That's true, even on good speakers the difference is not dramatic. That's why I chose a poorly recorded guitar. I was trying to show techniques that could benefit a poor recording because sometimes we just need to make the best it. Thanks for the feedback!

Great information as always, but this one has me perplexed: I don't understand how a compressor could achieve any dynamic range reduction if the threshold is set so high that it is above the sound of the instrument. Wouldn't that result in no attack and no release (whatever the attack and release settings would be) and thus no compression?

Isn't it interesting? But yes, the meters are deceptive in that sense, there's certainly gain reduction occurring, you can hear it, and it's very gentle and transparent. That method only provides a db or two of reduction, but it's really smooth.
