This was really good. All the other vocal tutorials on youtube seemed gimmicky or only applicable for vocals that already have a bunch of editing done one them (so just someone slapping a bunch of effects on a vocal lmao). This actually explained the basics/starting point of making raw vocals good! (especially the breath and volume adjustment on each part). You gave us your secret sauce.
D ExtraSoft Im so glad you found it helpful! Vocal mixing can get confusing so I really wanted to make it easy to understand. Thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate it 🙌
Hey don’t know if I’m too late but a gate at the beginning of the rack would be really nice to block out any unwanted background noise and also eq before compressor so the vocals are cleaned before being compressed....Hope I helped in some way great video.
Thank you so much! I just got my focusrite solo 3weeks ago and opt to use the Ableton Live 11. I have zero clue how to use it but seeing this makes a lot more sense. God bless you!
Just got Ableton and have never used software like this before! This was super helpful in getting started - feeling like I actually have some tools to play with now :) Thanks for making!
Very nice video. Loved how I could see every detail because sometimes I see tutorials which they have a lot already going on since the beginning and you don't get that starting point right. Thanks!
Thank you for a great video! I'm fairly new to ableton so this video really helped me out a lot! All the other videos were much more confusing and using a million plug ins while you used ableton only. So great.
I’m so happy this video was helpful to you! THANK YOU so much for taking the time to comment. I really needed some positivity today, so thank you so much for that! Keep making music!
@@AutumnGardMusic Gurrrrl I watched so many videos and they made it complicated 😵 your video was direct and easy for a beginner like me to understand. Thank you 🌞
Digital Sound Creative thanks a bunch! Yeah I’m really gonna try to work on acapellas. I have one out right now for sale (link in description lol) but I definitely want to do more; also I really want to learn how to tune vocals. Gonna try learning melodyne soon and once I do, I’ll make an updated video!
Thanks so much! The song is out on Spotify :) although, I cringe at my mixing cuz it was released over a year ago I believe and I think I’ve grown as a music producer since then haha it’s called “tear us to pieces”
Autumn Gard yes! I can see the growth even from the time between tear us to pieces and hold on close. Keep making music!! I love discovering new talent and seeing the progress. I want to be an artist as well! I’m trying to learn how to learn vocal tuning in ableton, it’s overwhelming with all the configurations but I got this. You and I both are gonna do something big with music I can see it ! 🦋
Thank you very much for your tips! Just one thing, correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think you can do doubling like this (duplicating the track) as it will only add volume. I think you need the second track to be different in pitch and/or time. I'm still a beginner though so I'd be happy to know if I got it wrong
You’re very welcome! And I greatly appreciate your feedback! 😄 Honestly I just go with what sounds good to me. I don’t worry too much about what’s the right or wrong way of doing things. If it sounds super muddy and distorted, I’ll tweak it till it sits well in the mix. I’m not an expert by any means. But if people are curious to see my process of mixing vocals, here it is lol I’m sure it’ll change over time too! Just keep doing your research and you’ll figure out your own process as well! Keep making music!
Awesome video! I am new to ableton 11 and recording vocals over backing tracks. I want to lower the volume of just the chorus on the backing track and just can’t seem to figure it out! Can you provide the detailed steps for a newly? Thanks
Do you put the original vocals down raw whenever you sing or do vocals on Ableton? Meaning is 100% of the mixing afterwards or do you have to put certain settings on before you say anything into the mic. I got the blue snowball based on your other video. Thx!
@@dasiegel it is a lot to learn for sure. but keep doing it! the more you do, the better you'll get. also just know the journey of making good music can be quite long. but if you fall in love with the process, you'll never stop :)
Hi, Many many thanks for the tutorial. I have followed your steps in Ableton to edit my vocal and its sound much better than before. Only thing I am concerned is crispy and clean voice which I am lacking off. Is there any suggestion you can give to make that happen or is there any way I can send you a sample of my voice so you can recommend me what to do? Many many thanks in advance!!!!!!
Thank you for your great advice. It was really usefull!!!! :) About the SATURATOR. Is it a plug-in I need to download? I could not find it in Ableton, but when I search on the internet, I can't find the one you use. Can you help me ? ( or another nice person :) )
@@AutumnGardMusic I have checked know. I could not find Saturator in the audio effects. I have Ableton Live 10 lite. Is it because it is the "lite" version I have, that the Saturator is't in the program?
Nice idea, there was great difference between before and after. I would like to try the same. Can you please help me out that how to add saturator effect on the audio effects rack? i dnt find the saturator option on my Ableton Live 10
Any reason you don't change to the standard highpass shape on your low cut EQ? Also, if you don't delay-offset your vocal double, it just makes the vocal louder and can create phasing issues.
Michael Williams no particular reason. This is just how I’ve always done it thus far :) always seeking to learn more though! For instance, I’m looking into getting iZotope nectar soon. Love what that plugin does for vocals!
Hi Dear, I am trying to figure the comping part out and surprisingly unable to do it. Would if you could help me out with it. To be honest, your vedios are awesome for a beginner like me. Hope to hear from you soon.
Komal Sharma hi there! Is there a specific question you have? If so, I can collect that info for a potential new video idea for the future! Or if you’re looking for a more one on one approach to learning, feel free to book a 30 minute session with me! autumngard.com/consult/
Instead of doubling your track just normalize the audio or bring the gain up on the track. Doubling the track is not adding presence it just seem that way because you increased the db level. Save processing power just turn up the gain on the track
Yes! So you’d need to grab the mp3, out it in ableton, make sure it’s on tempo, warp if needed. I may make a tutorial on warping a song so more ppl can know how to do this! It’s actually a very good skill to have
