So...only one...why is it that every STL I import in an attempt to make a hole in it, it doesn't work or even worse it joins the cylinder used to cut the hole and the object? Maybe a better question is what properties must the STL object have for manipulation such as cutting a hole and how do you set them? I've tried 3 different STL files, always the same result when following the directions of cutting a hole. Either nothing happens to the object I wanted a hole in, or occasionally it joins the two objects instead of being subtractive as the Boolean is set up to do.

Once you've booleaned the object, you'll have to delete the object that you had used to subtract. Also, make sure you APPLY the boolean modifier instead of just displaying what it "would" look like rendered in the viewport. EX: You have a cube that you want to punch a hole through. -Easy, boolean the cylinder through the cube how we want it. -Next we will apply the modifier, next to the "X" to remove the modifier there is a chevron pointing down, select apply in the drop down menu(CTRL + A). -Now while the cylinder is not visible in the viewport, it is still there. By default on the top right there is a list of objects that are in the scene. There we can see that the cylinder is there just with the name greyed out. Delete the cylinder and anything else that is not the cube. (camera, lights, etc.) Though i have run into some issues in kitbashing designs together and the geometry looks good in blender but when loading into any slicing software there would be weird gaps in layers and all sorts of weirdness. Microsoft has an application called 3D builder that has fixed most of those weird issues.
