How to mount a BMW Roof box - BMW How-To

Learn in this video how to mount a BMW Roof box. For each of the different BMW roof box sizes a maximum load weight needs to be observed. Check the vehicle and roof box manual for the maximum payload of your box and the maximum roof load of your vehicle.
You can open BMW roof boxes from both sides to load them with luggage. Make sure to distribute the weight of the luggage as evenly along the roof box interior as possible. Use the lashing eyes in the roof box and the included tension belts to tie down all the luggage together in order to keep the load from shifting when you drive.

I just got this for my X5. When installing, do you remove the rubber inserts in the rails to accommodate the box’s metal sliding blocks or simply push it beneath the sliding blocks into the rail’s channel?

You've probably already figured it out, but for future reference - You need to leave the rubber inside of the rails, and the sliding blocks of the box need to rest on the rubber when inserted as it will provide additional friction to prevent the box from sliding around on the roof rails while driving.

I had it done in the garage last week and they took it out. i was told to slide rubber inserts back in when box is off but bars stay on the roof, to improve aerodynamics

@@markhammerstrom3395 I know what you mean, I have the same issue, the rubber that came with the bars seals the bars from the top, this one in the video seems to be fed through the bar so the box attachment push down on it, my seal can’t be pushed down and could not find the seal in the video, do I just remove the seal if I’m attaching anything? Seems wrong

Bugra, I got the mid size, 420 and it's ideal for 3 series.

⁠@ I’m on a process of buying for my F22… I was leaning towards 420L box but if you are saying 320L would’ve been better for a 3 series then maybe that’s the best for my 2 series coupe 🧐 Is too long or high?
