Enjoyed the video. Jeep offers classes to build your confidence to do all the crazy moves you included in the introduction. I really like superstrut but it's expensive. What did you use to crimp the ferrules and stops? Speaking of stops, what's the function of the stops in this application?
We bought a crimping tool from Home Depot. The auto stop is on the cable by the winch. Is a red disc that trips an off switch to prevent raising the top too high. Good question and I forgot to cover it. Thanks!
Is the plan to leave the hard top hanging for long periods of time (weeks/months)? If so, can it safely be left hanging just using the winch brake? I've read that is not recommended and it would be best to install a method to tie it off and release the tension on the winch. I'm considering doing this project and including a tie off, but it adds to the complexity.
I talked to Bryan, the tie off is something we didn’t think of but we both think it’s a great idea. It would be easy enough to just bolt a cable or a rope or something to the wall above, below or beside the winch. Have a carabiner on the end to connect to the winch cable and then back the winch off to relieve the stress. Let us know what you do and thanks for a good heads up!
