Outstanding info, good to learn from an expert how to do this. I've tried various techniques to mount a scope just right. I like what I learned here.

I am an engineer for a large aerospace company and am torque certified. I can tell you Michael's way of applying torque to the scope rings, while it is quicker, is definitely incorrect. the correct way is to place both rings on and slowly torque in the alternating pattern he spoke of starting at 8:06. The way he is performing the torque operation can apply too much downward force on the scope tube when installing the forward rings thereby possibly stressing the tube. We simulate rocket launches and have done abort simulations on a real transponder going as high as 27g. I can tell you our way of performing the torque operations work because we have never had a mechanical malfunction concerning bolts or screws.
