FIX for 404: If all the sub-pages don't work after migration anymore, go to "Wordpress Dashboard"->"Settings"->"Permalinks" and change the layout of the links under "Common Settings" to anything. Just let the page update the links.

Ive tried exporting my site but for some reason it just wont work. In notepad++ when you change the local site to the new site address should I add www. ? I also replaced the database name in the database. I turned off permalinks before exporting the site. Can you think of where I could be going wrong?
@WordPressEssentials
@WordPressEssentials 7 лет назад
Does the new site just not load or is there any particular error message that you get while following the steps? If yes, could you post it? I may be able to understand the issue better that way. When you are replacing the filepaths in the database, ensure that you replace the localhost site URL with the exact same URL of your new website - if the new website URL contains "www", then it should be added while replacing the filepaths in the database too. Check the success message at the bottom of the "replace with" dialog box once you change the URLs to ensure that the filepaths were changed....

Might be a silly question, but we can edit the site when its live correct? There is a WP Admin login and dashboard we can access once its live to edit any changes right? I dont want to have to follow these steps over again if I need to make a change. Thanks in advance!
@WordPressEssentials
@WordPressEssentials 7 лет назад
Hi Jon! We believe that no question is silly - so here's the answer to your query. Yes, you will be able to make changes to your website post migration as you can with any live WordPress website. You don't need to go through the migration process again to do so. Just FYI, the changes that you make to your live website won't reflect in your local website (and vice versa) as they are not in sync. Hope this helps! Have a good one!

Excellent video!!. I tried to cheat using other tools and plugins (I won't mention names), but none of the tools that are meant to simplify the task worked. This worked perfectly!!! I have no comments whatsoever. THANK YOU!! ps I've subscribed to your channel and will be pleased to check back often. Now that I have successfully migrated from localhost to my server, which is A2hosting.com, I'll need to figure out how to update the migration as I continue to refine on localhost. If you have a video, please send the link. If not, please make one. :-) I think I can figure it out from this, but I'd prefer to have your thoughtful guidance.

@WordPressEssentials
@WordPressEssentials 7 лет назад
Hello David Grenfell. The issue most definitely is with the database setup or the updating of the wp-config file. Go through the first 2 steps of the tutorial to see if you have followed them correctly; especially check if you have entered the correct db name, username and the password (as per the new db that you created on the server) while updating the wp-config file. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting! :)
@davidgrenfell2965
@davidgrenfell2965 7 лет назад
Yeh, I've done all the steps from the tutorial as is. I've triple checked db_name, username and pw in wp-config file. They all are correct and identical to what I created on the server. I probably need contact the host. Thank you anyway!

this is what appears when I'm trying to connect to /wp-admin "Error establishing a database connection This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down."

Exactly what I thought.. Yeah, try calling the hosting providers support team. They might be able to check the connectivity and pin point exactly where the problem lies, even fix it hopefully! Please do post the solution here once your site is up. Thanks!

Hello Jason! Sorry for the late response. I hope that your site is fixed now. As for the issue, if the steps are followed correctly, everything should work just like it does on your localhost. Samuel Okpala As i have mentioned in the pre-requisites, this tutorial is made for hosting accounts with cPanel. As you're using plesk, I won't be able to give you a step by step walk through but from what I hear, plesk is very similar to cPanel. So i would suggest that you do a little research on Google to figure what goes where call the GoDaddy team and they should be happy to help.

Hi Carlo! Thanks for watching the video. Here's a solution to the error you receive: You will need to export the database from the local server again by following the steps below: 1) Click the “Export” tab for the database 2) Click the “Custom” radio button 3) Go the section titled “Format-specific options” and change the drop down for “Database system or older MySQL server to maximize output compatibility with:” from NONE to MYSQL40. 4) Scroll to the bottom and click “GO”. Once exported, modify the file paths in the SQL file and follow the remaining steps in the tutorial.

It doesn't work. If you had used some of the popular plugins to build your site like Elementor or WooCommerce etc.., you will end up scratching your head after migrating your site using this method. You will get fatal errors, missing pages, and missing elements if you transfer your site this way. There are more to plugins than just changing few values in the database and three lines in the wp_config.php file. Use the Duplicator plugin instead to properly and safely migrate your site without the hassle. Just wanna save you time and frustration.

Hey, Joe, could you provide some more details on how to do this? I am running into the same exact issue you are describing. I used Elementor to create my pages, and so far, I only have one page, and my navigation is not even there.
@joeplay1600
@joeplay1600 5 лет назад
@@migueltejeda3869 actually it is possible to migrate your site to the online server using this method but there are some additional steps that has to be done. - first, deactivate the plugins on your local wordpress(Elementor, WooCommerce, etc) installation before doing the steps stated on this tutorial (don't delete or remove the plugins, just deactivate them). - follow the instructions given on this tutorial - once your website is extracted/deployed on the live server, go to your wordpress dashboards Settings -> General page and update the "WordPress Address(URL)" and "Site Address(URL)" to the url of your live website. - then finally, reactivate the plugins on your live site if everything went well, all the pages should come up just fine like how it should be.

@hikka-ru
@hikka-ru 5 лет назад
@@hannanbaig7888 Theme cache is optional depending on your theme. Maybe your theme does not have it. Clear cache on server side (ask from hosting support how to do if it is enabled) Clear cookies and all website data, including history. Repair.php is a function to repair your database. to do this you need to: 1. backup your wp-config.php and add to it this string of code: define( 'WP_ALLOW_REPAIR', true); 2. go to your-website-name.com/wp-admin/maint/repair.php page 3. follow the instructions on screen. It is safe. 4. remove the added code from wp-config.php p.s. wp-config.php is in your website root folder the code should be added before /* That's all, stop editing! Happy publishing. */ string. Be careful with spaces and lines. This feature will restore your DB after the website migration. Good luck! This all worked flawlessly for my awego.ru

Put your music a little louder so that you are sure we don't understand you at all.

Great tutorial! but I'm stuck during Import step. It shows following error: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ SQL query: CREATE DATABASE IF NOT EXISTS 'drcnavad' DEFAULT CHARACTER SET latin1 COLLATE latin1_swedish_ci My SQL said: #1044 - Access denied for user 'unicor54' @'localhost' to database 'drcnavad'. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, I had created new database at siteground as you mentioned. My localhost address was 'localhost:8081' instead of 'localhost'. Never mentioned name 'drcnavad' on SQL data base on Siteground (probably the name on local host). Any idea what might be wrong and how to solve it? Thanks

Thank you for this video. But I would suggest next time if you make such important video please don't add any background music, because it is disturbing to hear clearly your voice.

I really don't understand why you need to have that terrible music (so loud!) in the background. This is tutorial not a movie!

Thanks for your honest feedback. I understand that background music is a tad too loud and will keep it down in the future tutorials. I hope the video was helpful though.
