Wow... Usually when the first few words are "Use the download in the description below, blah blah, blah", Things never work.... But they did.. Thank you so much!
For someone with 0 computer knowledge, and I mean this is all magic to me, thank you so much for this video! Saved me so much hassle, this is the easiest tutorial to follow ever! Thank you x
I want to move installed programs from one external to another external. If this is looking for a shortcut would I still have to have the old external connected??
For anyone having issues ensure that 'Run As Administrator' is either ticked in properties of SymMover or right click on the app to manually run it as administrator.
If you are using this just to move Steam games, you can do this already in the Steam client. Here's how! 1. Right click game in Library 2. Click on Properties. 3. Click on Local Files tab. 4. There's a button called "Move Install Folder" 5. Follow directions from there. Boom. Super easy.
So here's my question: I have some programs that I want to pull from an old hard drive and put on my new computer's hard drive. If I use this software to move the files, would I still need to keep the old hard drive connected after the fact or would I be able to disconnect it?
why you would keep your files on your old drive if you got in your new hard drive? if you copy your programs on your new drive so clean up your old drive :) late but i hope helps.
So if you're trying to move programs from an HHD to an SSD to make them load faster, would this process of following a shortcut in the HHD to the SSD actually slow the load or would it load perfectly as if there was no shortcut?
So EposVox, after the programs have been moved to another drive (for instance from E to F), can you remove the original folder/drive afterwards? And does this program also take the game saves into account? They're always placed in another folder like 'Documents' or 'My games' for instance. And moving a game from drive X to drive Y without it's saves/progress is not an added value in my opinion
I am confused, when you chose to move it to Program files 2? Does that folder go there and be named that on default? I saw apparently that to move program files from ssd to hdd you copy Program FIles (x86) and Program files to the other drive from the boot drive. If I were to copy Program Files (x86) and Program files to my hdd. Which folder would I choose for the destination? In the video obviously you chose "Program Files 2" but which of the 2 would I choose as the destination? Program Files x86 or Program files?
Yakxter, the tutorial was pretty clear and in depth but the thing is, what is Program files 2? Is it program files (x86) or Program files, the drive that we boot windows off of, has 2 folders, Program Files and program files (x86) you had to have created the "Program files 2" On my computer on my harddrive I don't have either folders, because my ssd is my boot drive so obviously I don't have the same files on my hard drive. But in another video talking about how you could do it your self without software, he said that you had to copy Program files (x86) and Program files and paste then into your hdd from ssd.
I moved my entire Program File x86 and Symmover left the entire folder's contents intact without making any shortcuts for those folders. Should I erase the new contents from the Symmover folder because they're redundant? And try again, maybe doing one program file at a time?
Why aren't most of the programs I want to move showing up when I hot the blue plus sign? I really wanted to move Itunes, Discord and twitch. It's only letting me move WoW, Battle.net, Razer and Chroma. I don't have much on my PC and I've only had it for a few months and It was full within just a couple of days. It would have been nice if CUK sent info stating that I'd need to use the D drive and how to use the damn thing! I can't update my game and I sure as hell won't be able to downlead Shadowland if I can't get this full C drive situated! Thanks for the video. It was the most help I've come across, but like i said, I still have 3 programs I'd like to move, but I have no clue why they aren't showing up.
Is it possible to move the whole entire Adobe edition collection Photoshop illustrator Etc programs from off a Dell hard drive to a Hewlett-Packard hard drive and function and operate as it did before? before?
What if the program has internal variables? Like it looks for some value in a specific file, like this: _variable data = get_data_from("C:/Programs/MyProgram/SomeFile.exe");_ Or something like that?
what to do when start does not work on Windows 10 after updating PC. I have tried power shell, cmd , Windows start menu file....it says required applications are not installed correctly.... please HELP
Hey I was having problems moving a folder from my C drive to another drive. The error shows that access to path denied. Hoping you could help me out on this one, Thanks!
I have just a c drive 1 tb with windows and programs and i have 300 gb space left and i want to make a d drive , but how do i shrink the drive if its almost full with programs and how do i move the programs to d drive? Do i need to reset windows and make a d drive and then it will be easier?
I get destination folder access denied. how can I change this before I try to move more significant programs? This gave me an error and couldn't move the app. Thanks
Yes, I think I'm getting this same problem. First it looks like it's working perfect then right when it gets to 100% complete, an error window pops up saying could not move the file and when I pull the log it says this: "ERROR: Failed to delete source folder: Access to the path 'Identity-H' is denied.." and this:"ERROR: Failed to delete source folder: Access to the path 'avwin.chm' is denied.." How do you get around this??
I want to update to windows 10 the wipe and install and put all my stuff on a external hard drive what would be the best way to move my programs on to a external drive then put it back on clean windows
Hi, i have moved various files already with this process, but they only files that is not letting me move is the LoL (league of legends) files. It pops up an error after it is almost done saying "Failed to delete source folder" . Help please and very nice and helpful video, keep up the good work.
Could I clone an entire drive with this? . My tower is shot but would like to resume using the hard drive in another tower that won't physically hold the old drive.
I like the way you do it. You made a mistake (on purpose???), and it is good that you did because you are able to show us what to do. However, when you re-did it, you did not explain where the "settings" folder came from; it just appeared from nowhere...no explanation, no detail, it just magically appeared. We need that step. Where did you get it from? I really appreciate that you do not have music running in the background. I also appreciate that you did not edit out your mistakes(???), because that helps us learn what to do. You do a great job. But I still don't know where "settings" came from. Hmmmmm, maybe I don't have to know if the program fixes it magically for me like it did for you.
it wont work can someone help? i transferred it and it said it did but i went to storage and it didnt say my space was free and that the app was still in my local disk
When I had a smaller SSD I moved some programs to a larger HDD now how do I move them back to the newer Larger SSD that I have now, I want a all SSD PC
Gotta say the app is fishy. When I was done with moving my programms via Symmover, I wanted to delete the app. However it is not possible. The uninstall.exe disappeard. When I want to uninstall it trough apps and functions, it says that the app can not be found. The app still works, but can not be uninstalled!!
FOR ANY ADOBE USER Read this if u use this program for adobe products it will try to trasnfer it back all u need to do is close the program by force when the moving back pop out if u dont press ok on the popout uhave all the time to shut the program down.. it did work for me like this i dont promise the same result tho
one last thing if u have shortcuts they will not work anymore what u have to do is going into the new location and opening the app from there then u can make a shortcut for that
Can I put some programs like Adobe aftereffects on a external hard drive and put the external hard drive on a different PC and still run it or do I need to install it on that PC?
copy the entire folder manually of whichever adobe software you want to move or copy to a different computer and paste it in the exact same place on the other pc as of the first PC. it works. i have been using it that way but the drawback is you wont be able to update it using adobe creative cloud.
I tried with some small programmes and it didn't work. Not only that but restoring it to its original place still resulted in the programme not working :(
Cant you just Cut and Paste the program to anywhere you want and then just manually place a shortcut in C drive Program x86? Or am I missing something?
well i did this a while ago and some reason i have nothing on my c drive but it says that i have 227gb of games and other files. so i kinda cooked my pc and it sux now
EposVox I didn't just unplugged it at random I restarted my PC without the drive plugged in and clicked on the start menu then clicked on one of the programs and they started up fine without the drive plugged in
