Just as another update, this is actually done now from what i can see under settings -> storage. Make sure to add your new storage device to your list of devices, and you can simply click via a check mark, what games you'd like to move, and what drive you'd like to move them to. easy peasy

Thanks for this update on the update. Steam made a lot of changes in a short time. Just installed an ssd and it was a little tricky finding the setting to migrate the game files.

Anyone looking in 2024 just go to steam at the top left click settings and go to storage, click on the local driver (C/D) and add storage device then click on the boxes of whatever you wanna move and then move them to the new location.

Really good video mate! there's a slight change now probably and steam update recently. After you click properties you click 'installed files' on the left hand side of the window, then second sentence down it says ' move this game's content to another folder or drive', click 'move install folder' then carry on with the video. Hope this helps some of the other commenters having trouble. This worked for me.

I recently had to reinstall Windows on my PC & reinstall Steam as well. All of my Steam games are safe on a secondary HDD. How go I add all of my Steam games back into my Steam Library without having to re-download all of them again?

October 2023 update You need to make sure your new drive is added into Steam first. To do this: Settings >Storage. At the top there is a drop down bar that shows your existing default storage drive. Click this and select Add Drive. Select your new/additional drive. Within the same window, check the boxes of the games you want to move, then at the bottom select Move. Steam will then do the transfer from one drive to the other.

Press “Manage Downloads” in the middle at the bottom of the steam app, then go to storage. Press your local drive under the the big storage icon and “Add Drive”, once you’ve added the drive you will then be able to do the things stated in the video. Hope that helps.🙏🏾

What would happen if I cloned my HDD with all games to an SSD and then manually wiped the HDD? Would steam instantly recognize the game files being on a different drive, or would it give me some kind of error?

I tried this and I don't even have that option. I just got general, updates, installed files betas, and controller. I've looked through all of those and these options are not in those either. Did they change this in an update ?

When I try to move Cod; Infinite Warfare from C drive to my 2TB usb drive it says Disk error. I tried backing up the files and install into the usb drive and still gives me disk write error.. It worked with all the other games though

Took me a second but I realize if you just added a SSD post STEAM installation you actually have to add the drive on the Storage page first then you can move the files.

I really hate new games from nowadays, they can easily take up to 500GB of your drive out of nowehere, when I played a few years back the maximum amount of space a game could take was 70-80GB and we were talking about a really demanding game. I don't understand why they have to take so much space, I mean I get games are more sophisticated and demanding now but I still think it's absurd.

Yep, When you're done with installing new Window. Open Steam and add the same drive in which you have the Steam library folder. Steam will automatically detect it, and you're just one click away from playing.
