Brad, you've made a new subscriber out of me with these last few videos. This one was especially great - love getting the immigration and company establishment info straight from the source. I have been to Serbia twice and was treated very well, last time was in the summer of 2021. Stayed in the new Waterfront Vudro Vilson high rise Airbnb, the owner registered me with the police the minute I arrived. Belgrade is a hidden jewel in Eastern Europe so not too many Americans visit Serbia. There is so much history in Serbia that you want to make plans for it e.g Viminacium a Roman city c.a 200 A. D east of Belgrade. Serbia had 18 Roman Emperors born in Serbia. There is a lot of neat places to visit but you have to get off the tourist areas. I found a statue of Rocky Balboa in Zitiste Serbia, have no idea why it was erected there. Car rentals are very easy to get but the only thing was that petrol is very expensive so there are not too many petrol guzzlers. I rented a Skoda 4 cylinder with A.C and manual transmission, it got hot in Serbia the two times I was there. I discovered that younger Serbians speak English very well so do not get discouraged about the language in big cities like Belgrade and Novi Sad.

Hi Brad, Question for you: you mentioned that you set up your IT consulting business in Serbia and are presumably getting invoices paid to that company. How does this work with US tax authorities when it comes to the business income and dealing with the IRS? Correct me if I’m wrong (I still need to do more research on this), but aren’t you forced to disclose foreign businesses and are liable for US taxes on those as well? Of course there will be the foreign tax exclusions but is there a certain $X of profits in your company after which the IRS will want taxes to be paid to them as well? Normally you could write these off with the foreign tax exclusion but Serbia’s taxes are lower than the US
@bradbeckett
@bradbeckett Год назад
I don't and will make sure I never make over the limit of the US' foreign earned income exclusion. If that starts to happen, there are additional ways to mitigate that.

You're right about many things, but there's a common misconception that most immigrants passing through Serbia to reach other European countries are from Africa. In reality, people from various places, like India, Afghanistan, Syria, and other countries torn by conflict, are making this journey. A significant number of them end up in Subotica, a town near the Hungarian border. There are also some African nationals, but not as many. Most Africans in Serbia are students who are legally studying here. My main concern, as I understand it, is how I can transition from one residency status to another in Serbia. This is a very pertinent question. The information typically available about Serbia often assumes that people come from visa-exempt countries. However, for someone like me who requires a visa to enter Serbia, the process can become considerably more complex. For instance, if I arrived in Serbia as a student and now wish to continue residing here after completing my studies, I might find that I need to return to my home country to apply for a new visa based on my changed circumstances for staying in Serbia. The common practice of doing "visa runs," where I leave and re-enter the country to renew my visa, may not be a feasible option for me. It would be incredibly valuable to gain more clarity on this matter. Thanks

Can i work there AND retire there? I'd sell my condo in USA or maybe Abnb it, and purchase or rent there, and work a bit, if they allow. But i saw another comment in which retirement there was not recommended. Referrals welcome. I think i'm making this too complex but Serbia sounds like a great forever home!

I have been to 94 countries !! All are beautiful in their own way !! The truth is that we in the West BS the entire world that Canada/USA/England....are all milk and honey because we need to brain drain the rest of the world !! We are slaves of the dollar !! So if you got balls go explore, not necessary Serbia although living expenses will be hard to beat compared to the standard of living. I just came back from Russia and MAN it was incredible, the BIGEST country on the planed is just booming even under the most brutal sanctions ever imposed !! Their economy is growing at a high rate which dumbfounded me because I went through the whole sanctions in Serbia during war and we had 13 DILLION % inflation and we all survived !! SO GOOD LUCK AT WHATEVER YOU DECIDE TO DO !!

For many years, I've been trying to leave Serbia, facing a thousand problems - from mistrust of foreign employers, doubts about my professional qualifications which are completely legal and recognized worldwide, to waiting for months for embassy appointments, and always encountering some issue that prevents me from finally leaving here. And then, a suggested video comes to me explaining how to come to Serbia? Clearly, Google is mocking me... I don't understand how it's possible for someone to want to live in Serbia, but I wish everyone all the best and a lot of luck. :D

@VladanLukovic91
@VladanLukovic91 Год назад
@@bradbeckett Hi! We are in two different positions. :D You might be tired of Western bureaucracy and some rules and constraints, but I believe that in Serbia, this is far more pronounced, it's just that foreigners who come here don't notice it because the Serbian system wants to promote the "economic tiger Serbia" campaign. If you were to consider opening a company, you would receive significant incentives for each employee, much larger than anywhere in Europe, think about that :D On the other hand, Serbia is one of the leading countries in Europe in terms of population outflow. Mainly due to the lack of institutions, doctors, judiciary, political influence in everything, enormous corruption, etc. If you're earning well, any country can be attractive for living and offer you something. The problems of a country only become apparent when you have to deal with institutions directly. The advantage is if you can leave such a country if you don't like it, but it's very unfortunate if you can't. It depends on what you do, how well the job is paid, and where you come from. In that regard, Serbia is almost on par with African countries. As for the Reddit videos you sent, let me give you an interesting comparison - the average salary in Serbia (which is officially published but practically not received by anyone) is around 735 euros. Educators have a salary lower than that by about 50 euros, and various other officials and workers similarly. More than half of the employees in the private sector in Serbia receive the minimum wage, which is around 343 euros, while the rest of some bonus money is given "under the table" provided that the employer likes and respects them, as a good portion of them work 6 days a week, and they use their annual leaves for additional work. (Without going into details about the number of people in Serbia living without bathrooms) The problems this woman in Canada is facing are poor life investments and circumstances. Someone who was once able to afford a spacious car, an Apple watch, and tattoos, while ending up without any saved dollars for rainy days, wouldn't live better even if they were earning 50 dollars per hour. Nevertheless, I genuinely wish you a pleasant stay in Serbia and hope you experience only the best.

It's never too late to sell everything and move. I recommend somewhere tropical. You can hole up in the Philippines for like 3 years on extensions before having to do a visa run.

As a Serbian I am happy that u decided to move in Serbia,but in last 10 years thousands of people go from Serbia because of the polution, human rights and many more reasons. What keeps you there i am wondering myself? Polution during the winter is terrible. Statistics show that every year more then 10 k people died from bad air in Serbia.

If you're born in the US, now is an excellent time to leave. If you are not born in the US, now is a good time to go there and learn how business is conducted then move back and do something remotely.

Look, those people have selected a terrible time to go to west based on outdated information about both Serbia and the west. The west is falling apart, and I'm not just saying that as some anti-West nationalist. It's entering a prolonged period of chronic crisis and instability. Have you been following the news from there lately? The Swedish prime minister is considering deploying the army to keep the peace and order. Both the UK and the US are suffering from chronic looting of stores because of lax ideologically driven enforcement of laws, or lack thereof, as well as a sharp increase in violent crime. In many cities of the US you have entire homeless encampments in the city center and the whole nation is suffering from a fentanyl addiction. In LA, the plague has returned. In San Francisco you have cleaning squads specifically tasked to clean human excrement and hypodermic needles. In Portland you literally had an attempt to create a far-left statelet marred by violence. The protests in France that happened recently were absolutely terrifying. The list just goes on and on! As for human rights, don't bother! America is the biggest farce when it comes to human rights and in most of Western Europe you're treated as a second class citizen. And for the love of god, where the hell did you get the ridiculous statistic, it's like 10% or so of all annual deaths in Serbia? Any respiratory-related illness is far more likely due to the rampant smoking in this country, which is perhaps the biggest fault foreigners see with Serbia.

Hi brad, can you please provide sandra email or linked in account?

Unfortunately not. Sandra has had to start charging for her initial consultation due to a significant number of people who were not serious. If you are serious and have the income to be able to immigrate to Serbia, use the Calendly link in the video description to book a paid Zoom consultation.
