Zero turn mower manufacturers recommend backing up hills and going forward down hills. That allows all four wheels to stay on the ground instead of lifting up like this guy did.
If you have steep hills on your property just get a 4wd compact tractor with belly mower. I can stop halfway down or halfway up and have full control with no slip. We have steep hills here in Pittsburgh, PA. Take care.
Keep the front end and tires higher than the rear tires and go slow around. I have a steep hill in my yard and a Cub Cadet z-turn. Every time I make another pass around the entire hill I keep the front of the mower pointing upward so one tire is off the ground and the other one is on the ground. Sometimes I miss the next row to be mowed because I did not get the front end high enough. Never let the front end be lower than the rear end sideways on a hill with a z-turn. It’s all about gravity
OMG, what different worlds we live in. My yard is excavated like a golf course and I mow a MUCH steeper hill than the one in the video on my Cub Cadet z-turn going around the hill sideways. Not up and down. It’s a bit tricky but the trick is to keep the front end of the mower higher than the rear. I forgot to mention I’m an Alaskan woman and we love a challenge. Those pampered guys operating the mowers could learn how to mow hills the right way in these parts.
Roger that! I mow steeper hills with my Kubota ZD28 with 72in Pro Deck...sideways. it's quicker and looks better. Never came close to rollover even in damp grass. Heavy weight over rear axle and right tires (Stock). Damn! No disrespect but up and down sometimes preferred based on land. If steep hill runs parallel to a 1/4 mile driveway, it looks awesome and is faster. Also in skimming earlier post about getting a 4wd tractor with belly mower????? Really? Center of gravity higher resulting in more likelihood of rollover. It's just plain old Newton! its slower and it beats the shit out of you. I have both. 1 machine can't do everything. Mowing grass on any terrain except for super smooth flat Golf course, Zero Turn is superior...You just have to own the proper mower and there are a few great ones out there and then there's the rest. Sorry, it ain't green and it don't say JD on it. Who the Hell even builds that thing? JD doesn't build anything pretty much anymore than 40-50 HP Tractors all the way up to the biggest. That's real JD. Sorry, but you run a landscaping company and use inferior equipment that can't mow that sideways? Wow. Sorry Brother but I'm 60 and mowed a lot of grass in my years and that ain't gittin it. Peace.
