Thanks a lot. We`re in New Zealand and it is challenging as we do have a few frosty nights every year. I`ve planted my trees next to the house to give them shelter and will take your advise and give them mulch and see if that will improve the crop.
I have an avocado tree that we did it from a avocado that we ate. Last summer it gave us a small amount. I think that it had to do with hurricane Maria but the other 2 years it gave a lots of avocados. The tree didn't fall, just some branches. I'm planning to see if this weekend it gets checked to see if it has flowers or avocados. Loved and Subbed
Your trees look really healthy. I’m in socal too and mine didn’t do well this summer. Didn’t have any mulch down so the roots near surface may have gotten dried out
Great video. My Reed is smaller but still has 7 avocados right now. Can’t wait for the flowers for next years fruit soon. Did your Reed have a tendency to weep when it was smaller?
Yes. There were some weeping branches on this tree when it was younger. I cut them back because I didn't like the shape and direction they were growing. Thanks for watching!
@@AJTheGraftMan I have a small Reed I bought online from California, it's really struggling. it came severely wilted and packed in coconut husk. Since it arrived I repotted it in 50/50 soil and fertilizer, it drains well. I have kept it inside out of direct sunlight the past couple days, but it just seems like it's slowly dying. How often should I water it, and what else should I be doing to get it healthy again. I plan to keep it indoors until it's 7ft tall.
You have alot of leaves eaten by bugs. I used mint plant ground up, filtered and sprayed the leaves in May and June. I went out at dark and picked 2 june bugs off each time. Not alot but they eat their share
Zuety Guerrero if the branches and trunk are exposed to the sun with no leaf cover, then they can easily sunburn. I suggest painting the trunk and branches with white paint to avoid sunburn. I hope the tree bounces back. Good luck
I have a tree in my backyard. I believe the tree is about 7 yrs old. I haven't gotten no avocado since I bought my house. What do you recommend? I have mulch around the trunk and I water the tree twice a week. The last time I fertilize the tree was last month.
M.D.W GAMING if it’s 7 years old and you have no fruit then it’s likely a seed grown avocado, in which case it sometimes takes 10 to 15 years to make fruit! Try grafting to get fruit faster
My one reed avocado 2.5years old has a lot of yellow leaves with either brown veins / green veins. It is flowering and it has dropped a few leaves. Nothing to be alarmed about but compared to my other bigger reed with no flowers yet and yellow leaves I am just wondering. I have a lot of mulch and I water it every three days well. Should I be worried? I have recently addeda bit of iron supplement. Holding thumbs
Is there any hope for my tree in Texas heat? It's 4 years old and still super skinny and in a pot. I'd like to plant it in the ground or a larger pot PLUS I'm also concerned about winter monrhs. Texas weather is unpredictable... lol
The big temperature swings in Texas make it tough for avocado trees, but not impossible. I’d move it to a bigger pot for a year or two, let it get older and tougher, then put it in the ground
Hi buddy, I just have planted a new avocado tree in my back yard. It’s very nice and healthy plant, but new leaves are dying. What could be the reason? What should I do to save my tree? How often and how much should I do the watering to it?
Could be one of many factors. So many possible factors. Watering really depends on your climate, soil, etc. In general, avocados do not like dry soil and should be kept moist at all times
hello sir Im living verry hot city my avocado tree finished 1 years old I used mulch from hay is it ok ? I mulched till drip line from trunk how many time should I water and I should water drip line or trunk ?
İnal Khakparaghi yes hay is ok. The best mulch is the tree’s own leaves. If they fall, leave them under the tree. If the leaves start to sag and look down, then the tree needs water. A well watered tree has upright leaves. I would water the drip line because a lot of young roots are there
I think it's because the tree directs all of its energy toward making the fruit bigger and mature instead of growing new leaves and branches. I'm thinking about not allowing the tree to fruit this year because I want the tree to grow and get bigger!
ajmal31 pretty cool. I have a reed as well and it has about 14 avocados that should be ready in a couple of months....the year of 2017 it grew from about 5 feet to about 12 feet. Incredible the growth, it shot up like a rocket...straight column. I planted a fuerte at the same time as the Reed and for some reason the Reed is growing faster than the Fuerte. Fuerte is about 7-8 feet now. I live about 10 min from you it sounds like cuz of the planes (I'm by Inglewood). Keep up the good work with the cool videos!
ajmal31 I'm trying to figure it out myself why the Reed shot up like that vs the fuerte. If I had to guess I would say it got a lot more water because there was a leak in my irrigation system where the Reed tree is. Other than that I'm just doing what you do.
Thanks for the video. I recently got a young Gem avocado tree i just planted in the ground. Using shredded redwood mulch also known as “gorilla hair“. My question is how far out from the trunk should I start placing the mulch? The drip line of the leaves is only about a foot out from the trunk so should I assume that’s far enough? Thank you.
Ideally you’d mulch going about 3 feet from the trunk. Young trees really appreciate that. Avocado roots spread to every place there is mulch. Encouraging a nice wide root spread is really healthy for young trees
Don't take me wrong, everyone is thankful to you but you are using very less compost, don't use compost if plants don't need that. Best time to use compost is a month (approx) before flowering or after harvesting fruits.
