I’ve been taking a deep dive into your page. Thank you for all of these resources! I’m helping my husband set up his private practice and we were thinking Squire Counseling. Squire is our last name but a Squire is also an attendant to a knight going into battle, an imagery that works well for therapy, but maybe too niche?

Question for you! I imagine it seems pretty obvious to not use the same name as someone else in your city as to not confuse people, but are there any sort of business naming "rights" someone has to a name in a different state? Ex: could someone in NY and someone in TX both be "Compassionate Therapy" or does someone have "rights" over it? Thanks!

I fretted over this decision and watched videos again and again, and I finally settled on the name and just got confirmation that my PLLC has been filed with the state! Yay! :) Brighter Side Counseling is official! Now I'm stuck on how to name my website and set up my email. Should I go with my business name, or my actual name? What's the best strategy to help clients find me and remember/connect with me?

I'm just thinking about starring up in the new year. What I think is when people research for counselling that's the word they will use to Google.

Hey Dawn! Using the word "counseling" in your business name or URL can give you extra "bonus points" with Google, but is not totally necessary. What's more important is that you have a strong, clear name that can be well branded and is not currently taken by another registered business in your area. Hope this helps! :)

Naming my practice is what is holding me back. I can’t decide on a name.

Hey Jessica--it's really important that you don't overthink it. Just pick a name that's good enough and keep moving forward! There is no perfect name :)

Also, you can change the name of your business, especially whilst it's relatively new.

@@tvm-growthisunlimited9023 How do you do that and not work under a "Doing Business As"? I'm stuck on the name as well and it's getting really frustrating. :(

Fresh Spring Counseling. I chose it because of the idea of giving people a fresh start in life. What do you think?

I work as an intake coordinator for a private practice and it’s called Psych Blossom. It’s a unique name but clients over the phone have really hard time understanding! They get confused on the “psych” part. I think it should just be Blossom Therapy, what do you think?
@privatepracticeworkshop5045
@privatepracticeworkshop5045 2 года назад
The general public doesn't know the difference between psychologists and psychiatrists, versus counselor, etc. so this is going to continue to cause some confusion. As a therapist, I generally think of "psych" indicating assessment. If the main thing you all do is therapy, I agree that Blossom Therapy is way more clear. Also "Psych Blossom" sounds like a noun, like a psychadelic flower or something :)

So there are only so many generic private practice names (or I'm just really not that creative.... or both). The one I really like is very similar to other business names (Generic Name Counseling Center, Generic Name Family Therapy) in my state, but the closest is 40 miles are. Should I go back to the drawing board or is this acceptable?

I’m just getting set up now. I’m thinking of ‘Not Broken, Just Human’ with the subtitle Therapy with Taylor. I work with an a range of people and I find this fits my overall approach and normalizes therapy. It also leaves rooms for me to grow into different avenues of mental health, or to add on other practitioners. It seems like a more bold choice!

It’s a great slogan and branding. Id rather pick a name free of “negatives” for the actual biz name. The brain does not process the “not” and the word broken stands out too much… though I love what you mean in general!

Hey John, I’m about to graduate with a masters in mental health counseling and have decided that I want to test the waters of private practice right away. I’m thinking of calling it Live Alive Counseling. What are your thoughts on the name and do you have any suggestions of books and courses I could take as I start up my private practice?

“Hidden Hope Project” meant as a telehealth clinic for the LGBT community. Haven’t started yet, still in school.

I named my practice Pilgrim Behavioral. Unfortunately, Harvard named one of their clinics the same. So, if you type in my practice name just by itself without the name of the city I'm in after it, you get the Harvard clinic. Boo. Luckily the domain was available. I just didn't know about Harvard. I picked the name because it's my last name.

Misty Pilgrim, LPCC that’s frustrating! In the future you may consider filing a trademark for your business name. Otherwise, Google does show search results based on IP address (geographic location) so it shouldn’t be a huge issue for people trying to find you. Your other option is obviously to change the business name which is a pain but could be worth it, especially if by chance Harvard has trademarked the Pilgrim Behavioral name.
