Thanks Juliet! Didn't you see the bottle of water. 🤣 But really when we go camping as a family the beer ends up in a cooler outside. Better to keep the meat and dairy in the fridge where I know it will stay cool and dry! 😁 (And of course lots of water for everyone!)
Very enjoyable little vid Grant. Using that flanging tool reminded me of making brake pipes years ago and regularly forgetting to put the gland nut on before making the flange! I'm amazed the fridge fitted so snugly into the existing space! If that had been me it would have been a millimetre wider than the old one... Cheers mate, thanks for that and love to all the Alexanders of all different sizes.
Thanks Mark! I too have learnt the "forgetting the fitting" thing the hard way. Almost did it in this project when I was under the trailer.. Had the flaring bar on and everything! Luckily I remembered at the last second. I looked high and low for a fridge that would fit, it wasn't easy finding one, but luckily Smad had one that was almost perfect!
tks Grant👏 I couldn't be happier to see how well the fridge fits into your camper. Great video❤! Looking forward to more evaluation and feedback. We hope SMAD refrigerator will be a good partner for your adventures.
Love the video. We just got our fridge and getting ready to install. There was a loose pies on the back that had a metal hook and twisted metal strip. do you know what that is for? Thanks!
Could you have attached the copper propane line onto the back of the fridge prior to putting the fridge into the slot? Instead of having to reach up blind?
Unfortunately no, the copper line is not flexible enough to do that. I could have removed the vent cover to reach it, but it seemed like more work 😂 The old fridge had the connection at the bottom and was easy to reach through the cover.
I thought I had ordered the SMAD model you show here in your video but I made a mistake. The one I ordered is Model DSG-40B1U. It is taller than yours and the propane connection is at the bottom of the unit. Do you know where I can get an Owner's Manual for SMAD products? The poorly-written "Owner's Manual" that came with it doesn't show anything about connecting the propane, use of the pilot light or how to fire up the propane. I am uncomfortable thinking about connecting and using the propane without detailed instructions!
I also found the owner's manual to be lacking. Unfortunately, I do not think there is anywhere to get more detailed instructions but if you are uncomfortable with propane you can try looking for an RV shop or porpane store that does installations. I don't know about your model, but most propane fridges are the same way. Turn the fridge to the gas setting. On the gas control knob push it in and hold it down. Then light the flame. You usually need to hold the gas knob for 20-30 seconds to warm up the thermocouple. After that it should stay lit. Good luck!
@@TheGrantAlexander Thank you for the rapid response!! It came with a regulator that I can hook up to the outlet on the fridge and to a propane tank. It might need nothing more than that.
@@loismurray6372 if you are using it outside (like on a picnic table or something) than the hose and regulator is sufficient. But if you are installing it in your trailer, you likely already have a regulator so adding an additional one would not be a good idea.
My previous fridge had venting and I just reused that. I also made sure that the new fridge was sealed between the living compartment and the vented area. (Much like the old fridge)
The best thing I can say is to Google propane fridge flue baffle and you will see pictures that should help explain it. It just sits in the flue hanging from the j hook.
@@TheGrantAlexander I watched a video on installation of the 3 way Smad and it said to order the vent system to exhaust it outside when using propane. The vent is inserted in the top of the cylinder on the back. You can query the vent system to see what I mean.
