Thanks I was a defensive end and I wanted to be a linebacker I liked blitzing and covering people and stopping runs and I wanted to be a linebacker anyway so it’s the perfect position for me
I've been playing football for 4.5 years, linebacker for over 3. It's season prep time, and I like to go back to basics on the regular, to see if I can improve my technique to make things easier for me. I'm not a natural athlete, as opposed to a lot of my teammates and opponents, so I have to hustle harder.
Sam Hammersmith outside line backer is different , just a little , with outside line back u want to give them your inside shoulder and keep the block off of u with your inside arm and contain the outside and even try to force the backfield players inside so the MIDDLE linebackers can do there job ,
I'm a line backer but I only played for a year bc I started late but I'm going to be a freshman this coming up school year so this helps a lot thx so much
Gotta find that balance bro. Remember, you don't know if the play will be a run or a pass play, so you need to be in a positions thats comfortable enough to move in all directions. Too much weight on your toes will have you falling forward toward the LOS on any play.
As a small guy you want to be able to hit with some force, to do so you CAN NOT hesitate on tackles you just have to put all your power into it. A common mistake made is people tend to hit square footed, when you hit make sure one of your legs are cocked back to propel off of it and into your opponent. I am 14 years old and a 6 year defensive end standing at 5'10 160 so I know what I'm talking about lol.
Im 5 10 172 lbs 14 years old. My first year and i really wanna play middle linebacker. But i want tips agaist players who like to juke what should i do
Rat Gang It’s all about footwork. Since you need help with that, you need to think your gap as your home, you don’t wanna let anyone in. Dive, pull, keep your hands ready, and improve speed and also use chasedown technique. Keep moving your feet on defense.
I false step, unfortunately, and sometimes I do so to throw the O off guard so I can propel myself to get out of sight (hiding in plain sight, or even blitzing).
I understand and that can work depending on the skill level of the Offensive linemen. But as competition and skill levels increase. the OL knows exactly what they need to do and how to do it. With each and every false step, the O lineman is getting to a better position to block you.
False stepping has zero positive effect and should never be used. It actually gives the OL blocker a half a second advantage on attacking you. I use an aid to get my inside linebackers out of this bad habit. I use a half round bag and put it right behind the heels of my players when we do right step/left step read step drills which prevents the players from stepping back.
The hips need to travel in order for a movement to be considered a step. If the hips do not move, but either foot moves opposite the direction you are trying to go, this is known as a plyo or reposition step. By taking a plyo step you are striking the ground behind the hips which is paramount for moving quickly.... or quicker!
Dylan Savage well I don’t know how you play but if you mean if it’s literally possible. Yes, more and more players from Europe are playing college football every year
