I quit skating for an entire Decade and this was the one trick I could still do when I stepped back on board. 4 days later though and it's all coming back, and I'm having the time of my life.
Peace, I'm 46 n haven't skated since 18 lol I bought a deck about 2 yrs ago n set it up and its amazing how fast it comes back , It sucks wasting almost 30 yrs on heroin n losing yrs etc Peace n good vibes n energy to ALL the skaters from Nj , shxt I wish we had youtube or cellphones , everything was Hokus Pokus n shackle me Not Hensley was sick w it and always loved his style etc again sorry I'm super stoned n reminiscing haha Peace fx12 fxyuppies stay free✌🏻💨💨💨💨💨
As much as I love watching you skate, as an absolute beginner at 58, I am glued to the screen watching your son skate! Thank you for bringing him into your tutorials. He shows me what I might be able to achieve in a reasonable amount of time and hard work. I appreciate his contribution a lot. He makes it seem doable for me. Please thank him from me, a 58 year old woman, that started skateboarding for the very first time in August 2019. Greeting from Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
3 things that helped me figure this one out (I believe from Johnny Giger's tutorial): 1) Put nearly all of your weight on your front foot 2) Begin opening up your shoulders 3) Simultaneously shift your weight to your back foot and step off with your front foot
One thing that helped me learn normal no-complys (without the 180) is trying them up a curb. They kind of feel awkward on flatland but I think in context of having to jump up an obstacle, your body will fill in the blanks a bit more. Maybe even let the tail bonk to level it out, but eventually you'll want your thigh to do that job on pure flat (just don't whack yourself in the knee!). Ironically I have more trouble doing the 180 variation but seeing you break it down really helped.
I'm really glad you said spring loaded. Learning how to do it using pressure as opposed to a straight up frontside shuv motion is what made the difference for me.
You are so right about the bad reputation of tricks like the no comply. I'm 37 and started skating in the 90's and absolutely know what you are talking about. Today I decided to give the no comply a chance and finally learn it ;D
The straight no comply (without the 180) is definitely the most difficult one imo. You are as old now Ben, as I was when I started skating and I can land decent no complys. Today I am 45yo and my favorite one is the bs no comply 360, that is one of the few tricks that I can land with some steeze. Since I am still a beginner, I really dig the vibe of this new channel Ben. Keep up the good work! Btw, I can never get 2 many kickflip tutorials (and I know that you have done something like that earlier on your other channel) so that is my suggestion for a future video! :-)
Ben I am so incredibly stoked that you are doing these videos and putting this channel together...you have a way of explaining things that just clicks for me in a way that the other thousands of skate tutorial videos never seem to do. Much respect to you, thank you for all you do, man, keep pushing
From a video game standpoint :) There’s only 1 way to no comply in Skate 3 and its very choppy. However, that was 11 years ago, and they still weren’t “respected” back then. I would have to assume this is going to be a very smooth and easy thing in the new Skate game in the next year.
Hey guys, I just started skating again at 27, progressing and having more fun than ever! I love how you can clearly tell that youre just so stoked about skating and making videos with your son, really really cool man, keep it up!!!! 😆🖤🖤🖤
I’m 42 and have just started to skate again after over twenty years of not skating. When I used to skate we didn’t have RU-vid videos and I didn’t know many skaters so learning new tricks was hard and ultimately why I got frustrated and lost interest. I could Ollie but not much else. I always loved the old school tricks like this . Anyway cool video thank you. I know exactly what you mean about feeling older in the bones , just the concave of the board hurts my feet these days , I don’t remember that happening when I was younger.
If the plan for the channel is to stay relatively new-skater friendly then gradually build-up to advanced tricks, FS/BS Slappy please. Otherwise, impossibles.
It's such a beautiful trick, thank you for the superclean demo. Been working on this today, now i know i can also do this without 180. I'm 45, been skating 30 years ago. Now restarted, but i have to divide my energy between martial arts, weight training, skateboarding and health issues 🤔🙂
For some that don't know, turning your shoulders helps greatly when doing the No Comply 180°. Just Like doing a regular 180° requires you to turn the shoulders
Probably the best tutorial i've seen among the dozen explaining the no comply. The point about the tension is very valuable ! Thanks dude, and at 38 you look way much better than me at 39 hahaha
Aye! Cant wait to learn and try to get the hang of it especially to add in between trying to clean up my Ollies and trying to get the hang of a front power slide and back one as well
Thanks so much, never really worked on it.. because just like you I was told it was a regressive trick. But tried it today and got it within 15 minutes of trying them!
I think an idea to consider in future videos is to include variations of a trick that aren't too dissimilar (e.g., kickflips and fakie flips). That way, you can kill a couple birds with one stone.
I like the way "montage" sounds in English ! Thanks for this tutorial Ben and the nice montage. Your son is skilled, sure. I never cheated (...), so I can pressure flip, ollie impossible, flappy noseslide - 44 yo- but never no-comply...I see your vid and I think this trick deserves a try, 30 years later, at least to include into my 1 hour warmup session...Thanks Ben!
Great video Ben!! I'm excited for more of these tutorials. Personally, I didn't love the music for the montage. Everything else was awesome! I'd love to see a frontside 180 tutorial. Cheers!
this is the trick to pressure flips :) I have seen so many try to explain pressure flips but you have nailed it just add a little scoop with out the swing of the foot and jump and you have converted your no comply howto into a pressure flip howto.
I've been struggling with this one a lot. Two things helped me(Ben didn't mention).1. Keeping my body sort of "in front" of the board 2. Turning my shoulders like in ollie fs 180- that one was crucial for me. I'm looking forward for no comply 180 backside from this channel!
What I miss in almost every video tutorial on almost any tricks is where your weight is in the beginning of a trick and how to shift it properly. For some tricks it is more intuitive than for others. I think your tutorials will be even better with this information in place.
When I think of a no complys I think of Ray Barbee. Style all day long. I have a hard time with my short legs keeping it under my feet and then keeping it from wanting to flip all the time. A no comply 180 out is petty cool flat ground cruise skill I hope to get down cold soon. Thanks for the video.
Saw John Rattrays Dying to Live part? He did that, to forward.. i think many people were a bit shock when he did that on that era lol..but still awesome the way he did that & with speed
As a fellow 90s skater who likes trying tricks again in my late 30s, I hate that these and slappys weren’t done back then. I wish I had learned them 25 years ago
If any of you still cannot do it , I will suggest also this: the moment you put your foot on the ground and it pops, move your CG slightly afterwards, and the moment just after move it again to neutral. It worked for me.
i think the key thing to this trick is learning to ride with the two stance, goofy or regular to easily master the trick plus it's a good foundation for your skateboarding progression, much love skate safe ❣️
You actually kinda lucky. Here are the pros and cons of being tall. Pro: good tinder profile Cons: It hurts when you fall since you fall from a higher place “How’s the weather up there” Your shirt is an X and your pants are an XXXXXXXXXXL Bad posture Back pain Gotta watch the BMI Everything from horse riding to skiing is harder. You won’t be chosen as a high offence (ankle breaking dribbling god) every basketball game
Bruh I'm so glad for your vids bc I can't ollie yet (way too scary for some reason) and I am just trying to learn stuff that doesn't require it. I did a nose stall today after watching ur vid!! I guess next time I'll work on this.
45. Been skating 3.5 months. Was literally just trying the no-comply in the kitchen. Sit down for a break, and your vid's the first one see. Sub'd to Just Keep Skating. :D
Try your no-complies(straight) off of a parking block if you can only do the 180 step off.. the slight angle of a parking block makes it easy to just force the board up and over! I’m somewhat hit or miss with the f/s 180 no comply, but I learned b/s 360 no-complies at 30 years old! Watching this video to hopefully make my 180 no-complies more effortless! Thank you!
I'm surprised I didn't see this in the comments yet but, for the record, a front 180 No Comply is a 43. I learned straight No Complys over a parking block first if that helps anyone.
