Best. Champagne. Opening. Video. Ever. I honestly didn't know taking the cage off was unnecessary and dangerous. Not to mention helping get the cork out.
Agreed! Have been doing this wrong all my life... 🤪 Learned w new thing today, now let’s see if there’s a bottle in the house to test this new skill...
*Listen ERIK! Why don't you open it in my way. More ACTIO - MORE FUN! Trust me! Follow the steps! Remove the foil, the cage. Get a grip. Thumb on the cork! And AIM CAREFULLY! The roof preferably. No Chandeliers! Turn the bottle clockwise. You''ll feel it. AIM and SHOOT! Standing ovations! Me and madame we done it in Bangkok, Rangoon (Yangon) and Hong Kong Felix The Peninsula Hotel. Very well done. Although I’d argue the more important reason you don’t want that loud pop is because it usually is followed by loss of product…. And in my eyes it’s a far sadder situation to waste Champagne than someone getting hit by a rogue cork… but that’s just me 😂
Thank you! This is literally the most helpful video I have watched on youtube in the past year. I have a hand injury on my left hand and I was still able to do this easily and without spillage.
A really excellent video - I learned more from this than anything else I've seen on the subject. In a nutshell: twist the cage fastener 5 or 6 times; leave the cage on, grip the neck tightly with your hand (the cage gives extra traction), and turn the bottle with the OTHER hand, which is holding the relatively wide bottom of the bottle. This end of the bottle gives you much more leverage than the much narrower neck affords. Cork comes off. Brilliant. Archimedes lives. Thanks.
Working in a club myself,I knew about the soft sound when it opened. However the thumb on the top of the bottle was very useful! Thanks for showing us :)
Me too! I was always afraid of opening this kind of bottles and after i did open one using this technique, i feel more confident. So glad i clicked this video! I DIDN'T BREAK ANYTHING!!! :))
I was scared to death opening my first bottle, picturing the cork hitting someone in the head. I watched a few videos and this one helped, especially explaining the 45 degree angle thing. Others said to do it but didn't say why. I did still get a small pop that made me jump a little (don't tell nobody), but no crazy projectile and no spillage. Appreciate it!
Kim Wilson his comment about the pressure is bull, pressure is a force that acts in all directions not just up. The angle is so u don't hit yourself or your guests.
Used to work at a wine bar in Austin and they taught me some ridiculous shit about holding it from the elbow like a rifle. Thanks for this easy tutorial!

My homemade water kefir would always explode upon opening when the fizz builds over a few days in the fridge. So I figured there must be a way to open it without exploding kinda like a champagne bottle. I keep my kefir in glass bottles with a swing cap. Googled this and voila! That 45-degree angle while holding down the cap (rather than swinging it open) was perfect! Now I don’t have to lose half my kefir due to the usual explosion. Thank you!!!
I am Brazilian, I work in a restaurant that has a wide variety of wines and sparkling wines, your video is very good, it taught me a lot, thank you very much, another subscriber.
Just opened my first bottle of champagne successfully, thanks for the informative video! Enjoying my Moët Chandon now with some old Leonard Cohen vinyls like a dirty hipster
Excellent video! I almost killed myself last time I made the attempt, but this time- thanks to your video- was successful. I tried other videos which were confusing and included irrelevant material. Thank you for a proper instruction. And the classy style didn't hurt either! =)
Dunno why he thinks leaning the bottle 45 degrees will affect the pressure on the cork. The pressure is hydrostatic - it is the same everywhere in the bottle no matter how you hold it.
I wish you were my employer! I was shown the wrong way by coworker. Worked by myself and had to pop a dozen bottles to make mimosas. I ended up injuring my thumb 😫
Just charming! Many years ago I uncorked some champagne at my best friend's wedding. The cork came flying off and we looked high and low for it cleaning up at the end of the night. Where was it? My shirt pocket. It had flown up and deposited itself neatly in the breast pocket of my button down shirt (it was a summer backyard wedding). Who'd a thunk it? But now I know the proper way.
Well glad I realised this at age 32 and I will now open this wya from now on. I always wondered why there weas a cage on, and always took it off, thinking it was purely for show.
I use the "saber technique" or "getting the pop" in celebrations, but you lose more carbon dioxide, which means less bubbles in the glass and for less time. This method (with no pop) helps champagne to taste better and longer, special for fine dining and good champagnes.

watching this due to past experiences that were bad. I am overcoming canned biscuit dough fear each day... now hoping to get the champagne explosions more under my belt and under control....
Wow I should have watch it...I almost hurt myself...it got my chin..one thing is that I’m small n my strength was not strong enough but I bought a bottle and will try this way
I saw a horrific cork accident that brought me here. Guy opened the champagne bottle which was inadvertently pointed at his girlfriends head. Cork popped hit her in the eye and she was rushed to the emergency room. She lost her sight in that eye. The boyfriend was emotionally scared and went into a deep depression. His girlfriend is learning how to cope with only sight in one eye.
Wowww, so sad to read this...When I notice someone without experience (you can tell immediately) in a nightclub or party is about to open a sparkling wine, even if I don´t know him I tell him to be careful and point it to a safe direction...I feel scared thinking something like this can happen.
