How to open a Gigabyte RTX 2060 Super!

Hi All,
I was repasting and replacing thermal pads on some Gigabyte RTX 2060 Supers and couldn't find any how to's on the web hence thought I'd share a basic overview on how to open these babies up.
These card use 0.5mm & 1mm pads
Here are the ones I purchased below, I tried both:
Thermal grizzly minus 8:

Gelid Ultimate GP:

I will so a follow up post soon to report which were best. I also used Noctua HT NT2 thermal paste, expensive but top notch!

These 2060 Supers have very thin heatsinks and bad fans so they need a little extra help we can give them (especially for mining temps). Plus if you really want to reduce temps remove the plastic back plate it makes an amazing difference.

Will the heatsink tension properly with the 4 screws if I've removed the backplate? I hear that plastic backplate seriously harms thermals. Also, I read elsewhere that the 2060 Windforce x2 OC uses 1mm, 1.5mm and 2mm pads. Are they really just different for the 2060 super with the same cooler?

i took the plastic backplate off and re done the paste and thermals and now it doesn't go over 77 "Gigashyte" cheers dude.

Great work Rampant - it's bonkers they wrap all that plastic around it to kill the cooling!! Ends up being a decent preforming card after the mod! OZ Mining

Hey, you sure its 0.5mm for memory and 1mm for vrms? Do you alao cut into squares for the memory or long rectangles? I bought both actually 😅 Gelid Ultimates to lower my temps, 80+ temps is too much for gaming

Yes those sizes work perfect! Also to get a further 2-3 degrees drop in temps leave the back plastic cover off, it really helps cooling! Let us know how it goes Thanks for watching OZ MIning

Dude, I'm in desperate need of thermal pad thicknesses EXACTLY for this card! I almost changed it to 1mm, but the temperature in games could go up to 90 degrees. Then I changed and put 0.5mm and now it goes up to 80 degrees! The thermal pads had excellent conductivity, 6W/m-K, but there you go... That's why I'm asking for help if you can even help with a picture. Thank you very much!

Yes 0.5mm on the memory squares and 1mm rectangle strips on the other parts, I'll do a follow up video soon showing how & where to place the thermal pads👍👍 Oz Mining🦘

hello, i have the same graphic card and i was trying to find the thermal pad thickness information but i couldnt find it anywhere :( can you tell me the thickness of the pads? otherwise i will need to open mine to measure, didnt what to open it twice xD

Dude, i was looking for the VRAM thickness like 6 moths ago, didn't find anything, and then bought 2mm and almost killed mi gpu. So i tried an old NZXT for WC mi card, and 2 days ago i was getting black screens on the startup, im so scared and finally i found the thickness right here :c i really hope it's not to late.
