Very smart business guidelines my man. I'm a plumber and a very experienced residential drain service tech. I've decided to invest and open up a drain cleaning outfit. Where are you out of again?
This is easily the most valuable video I’ve seen in quite some time!!! I just recently realized just how much money there was to make in this sector of the industry (plumbing) and ooooooh buddy!!! I had no clue. Just bought my first hydro jetter (General Pipe JM 1450) today...and am already looking to buy a trailered unit!!!! Thanks so much for this video...it is much appreciated!!!
I am a self employed plumber since 2001. What do you think is my best advertising in 2020. I have been ok with cable machines since I opened and only needed a jetting machine maybe 3-4 time's
What about Google add words, home advisor, thumb tack etc. I only charge $185. For a average sewer clogg, 45 minutes or less. But where I am there are ALOT of plumbers. I need advice on the BEST advertising that makes the phone ring.
I would not Recommend any of that advertising. Especially HomeAdvisor, you will burn through cash with them. Or if you do use those tactics you have to charge a lot more for your services to compensate.
Great video Joseph, honest and to the point. I got a question: So basically all i need to start is a camera with locator, hydro jetter, and some sort of drain cleaning machine like Picote? Ive also been doing CIPP work for a while. Think that'll work?
Thank you, Joe for such an informational segment!! I know this depends on State but could you tell me a little more about the credentials you had when starting out your business? Beside the Spetic License, Did/do you need additional certs when starting out? Thanks again!!
I work for people on fixed incomes 60 bucks to snake a tub , sink or stool and 100 for main lines.. No ads ever and I get between 10 to 20 calls a day.. all cash deals.. On camera work I farm out for a 25 dollar fee one needs to stay small and low over head..
if that is your business model that is great. If i do 10 main lines i would find problems with about 60% b/c that is the chance there is one. make 10-50 thousand on 10 main lines. sometimes we replace the whole septic system.
@@josephcunningham559 I do manly sinks, tubs & stools and replacement stuff I'm too old for that big F...ing work hell I'm 67 years old and retired from the City Fire Dept. You young guys can handle that.. Good luck & work safe..
Yes you have to make money for providing a service but overcharging is a quick way to never get business from customers like me I am the customer who gets on the phone & calls other companies to price shop no I do t go with the cheapest company because I want it done correct but doing a good job at a reasonable price is well appreciated & respected & you will get word of moth referrals & repeat service if you don’t try & drain out the pockets of everyday 9-5 working middle class people. I had a company try & charge me 3000 for new field lines when I didn’t need new field lines lucky for me I called a friend who got it done for 800 .. it’s really sad & sick how some companies pray on homeowners in need..
I am starting a drain cleaning business in Kentucky. My insurance rep is trying to get me to purchase a "work completed" policy, which is about 8x more expensive than not having the "work completed" coverage. Do you feel that this is a necessity? Thanks.
How do you advertise I've been in business for 20 years and never have had one job from advertising I can't make it work nobody ever wants to pay for my jet or camera service they just want The drain snaked the cheapest way
Dumb question: why do people still use drum snakes if hydro jetting seems to work better. I know there is a premium cost to hydrojetting vs snake but can a person only do hydrojetting. It seems better all around. Can I learn to run a camera and hydro just as fast as drum auger?
Jonathan West no you need a snake machine. It is difficult to use a hydro jetter on smaller drains. Also sometimes you have to unclog drains when people have carpets or overhead clean outs and you can not use a jetter for fear of flooding somebody’s finished basement or other rooms
@@josephcunningham559 Thanks Joseph. Appreciate it. you are still the only person who talks about how to get started in this business. I am finally pulling the trigger and getting my equipment this month.
In Texas there is no difference between drain cleaning and plumbing really. We do both on a regular basis. May replace a water heater in the morning then go do 2-3 drain calls in the afternoon.
Hey my name is junior I am just about to get into the septic business. This video was very helpful. I am in miami. I just bought a septic truck . I am in miamj . I really learn a lot from this video
Go for it! If your pumping you have to track every single customer. You will make your money in the return business in 2-3 years. But u got to call them
I had considered just doing non-sewer drain lines, french drains, gutters etc. Was trying to keep it non-complicated and a PT side gig. I hadn’t considered how important the sonde locator would become. Maybe I am thinking about this the wrong way.
Thank you for your input and info. I'm looking to open a drain cleaning business in February of 2022. I'm going the route your saying by getting into other services like digging as well
where do you live No, If you plan on making money, you have to be able to jet grease and roots out of a sewer pipe. A small jetter is not going to be sufficient. Purchase the brute 9gpm/4000 psi jetter from northwest jetters and put it in your van. The elements are going to destroy your equipment do not leave it out in the weather. Also consider winter, that jetter is your bread and butter. Protect it, give it a nice warm garage to sleep in at night. You can anti freeze it every day. If you forget one time you can seriously damage the pump. One more thing, GET THE REMOTE! yes it is an extra 3,000 dollars, but you will be kicking yourself in the ARSE the first day you realize how much easier the job is with one. Don't do what I DID! Good Luck
In most cities to open a drain cleaning business you only need a basic business license and if you are a unlicensed plumber you can do just about anything without the inspector knowing the home owner can pull a home owners permit for single family homes if you need permits.
JPayne 555 of your going to be in the drain cleaning business, a good goal would be to expand into replacing the broken drains too, that’s the point I am trying to get across
