How to open pictures with Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 10 (.jpg, .jpeg, .png, .tif, .tiff files) 

when i choose "set default program" , it opens APP in normal Win10settings anyway, i cannot find that exactly window :\

thank you! also you should mention after editing the registry you can associate the jpg file with the old windows viewer, so you won't have to right click the picture every time.

Nice It's WORK !!! just launch the registry file then the apps 'windows photo viewer' will appear on list default choose that, then your problem will be solved 👍

Why do i feel that Windows 10 is trying really hard to become Mac OS? I use both systems (work and personal) and I used to prefer Windows over Mac OS..it's sad that Window is trying to become Mac and tonnes of great features from Windows are being dump, only to be introduced with more and more dump feature and logics similar to that of Mac OS's.

THIS IS THE ONLY VIDEO THAT ACTUALLY HELPS TO DOWNLOAD, INSTALL AND MAKE THE PHOTO VIEWER A DEFAULT PROGRAM, I WENT THROUGH MANY DIFFERENT VIDEOS, BUT I GOT NO RESULTS, THIS VIDEO HAS MOST OPTIONS TO SET PHOTO VIEWER AS DEFAULT, I INSTALLED WINDOWS 10 ON A NEW HARD DRIVE, THIS WAS NOT AN UPGRADE FROM WINDOWS 7, BUT A FRESH INSTALL OF WINDOWS 10, I COPIED THE FILES FROM WINDOWS 7 PHOTO VIEWER TO A FLASH DRIVE AND ADDED THOSE FILES TO WINDOWS 10, AND FOLLOWED THE BASIC STEPS, IT WORKS, I FOUND ITS BEST TO HAVE A COPY OF THE PHOTO VIEWER FILES FROM WINDOWS 7 SAVED TO WINDOWS 10, I WILL BE KEEPING THE SAVED COPY OF PHOTO VIEWER JUST IN CASE WINDOWS 10 UPDATES CHANGES THE SETTINGS, GREAT VIDEO

My pc has been okay, but gradually I'm having to fiddle with all sorts of things like this just to get simple basic of the most basic features and functionalities to work "okay". When I upgrade I'm going back to mac for sure as my main machine. I never ever have to screw around with anything at all. I would gladly pay the apple tax for that. I grew up on pc's and liked screwing around with them and fixing them, but then I got into my career in Design and just wanted to focus on creating and getting work done to save money and time for my employers or clients. No time to dick around with silly little problems like this. Sorry for complaining, just really frustrated when things like this should not be this hard and lengthy of a fix that you have to edit the bleeping registry to associate a filetype with a program... truly absurd.

Windows photo viewer can't open this picture because either Photo viewer dosnt't support this file format, or you dont have the latest update to Photo viewer.

I get the option to open the files with windows photo viewer only on .ppg, not on .png. windows photo just won't do anything anymore after the recent 1703 update.
