Thanks for the ‘honest’ example of how to (not) change the blades. 😊

I spray the whole underside of the deck, and especially the blades and the screws, with silicone spray. Seems to help when cleaning and the screws go in easier. Seems to make the grass stick less. Tend to fall off before it becomes a problem.

Sounds effects. Awesome. I know a good Foley Editor if you decide you want go another step up. But, you'd need a Foley Artist to create the sounds that the FE would insert into the video. Anyway, I am gonna remember this one. I found out yesterday that the house/property I'm buying, while 3.15 acres in total may only have 1 1/2 acres or so of grass. It seems a luba 5000 purchase might actually work for me. Fingers crossed.

I purchased new blades from Amazon ... Emberg blades... I was told they work with the Luba and the replacement screws with them are normal Phillips head screws. I agree... Hex screws are not a good choice. Also... I'm seriously considering cutting the side-shields down in size so they're about the same size as the newer Luba's side shields. Our side shields collect so much cuttings and if difficult to clean out. I'm sure making them smaller will help a lot. And finally... I ordered 2 plate covers for the blades. I have to clean under those blades now after every mow even when the underside itself is very clean. Grass cuttings wedging under the blades, and they no longer spin is a constant battle and I think that will really help.

I’ve been waiting to change my blades because I saw the video a few weeks ago that said you would be posting one. Then I saw the short notification got my tools and Luba. Watched the short and thought to myself “nope” not changing the blades until you posted this video.

@@Crazypostman your fully open videos of what you learned as you came across different issues helped me feel confident on my purchase. Following you has been great as both what to do and what to watch out for. We appreciate your commitment to content. I did get my blades replaced. I just flipped them over and saving the full replacement blades for next year.

Anytime a screw or bolt is hard to thread, work it back and forth. Also, add WD-40 or other lubricant. Don't force it. Also I changed my screws to generic pillipshead screws that fit my Automowers. Blades will work too. Many cheap options on Amazon. Trashed the guards and washers. Luba needs a free-spinning guard disk like Husqvarna to prevent the blades from jamming with debris.

i used my cut off wheel and sliced my blade guards off. I removed two bars on each side almost like your 3000. I made a huge difference on cut quality. Funny on the screws, as I get older it becomes more challenging to see the difference in some of those smaller screws! LOL

If I had a similar tool I would do the exact same thing! I'm debating if it's worth going to harbor freight and buying one just for this

I've gotten rid of all the hex head screws and replaced with philips head screws. So much easier to deal with, especially when the hex heads become debris-filled. The philips are easier to clean out and turn with a power driver. I'm also using vice grips to keep the disk stationary and not spin while I'm turning hub screws with power driver. I learned this trick the hard/painful/bloody way.

If you do not have to check for debris under the disk there's no reason to remove the disck to change blades. But I still use a power driver and vice grips to keep the disk still when replacing blades@@tulsatom4307

Kudos for showing the vid.. Also,, Dads are always right 😁 Regarding cleaning the underneath.. Do you have an air compressor you could try with a high pressure nozzle? That may work and also remove the risk of water ingress.

I’m thinking of buying two plates so I can swap them and change the blades more conveniently. Same as I have two blades for my Toro.
@surf2257
@surf2257 Год назад
Loctite is fine once you passed the hard part like you were showing it should sit tight in half turn and its normal. Don't use lubricant or worst WD-40. I unjam before each cut and change them each week, clean them and shape them on the bench grinder. It makes a better cut when blades are free and sharpened)).

I've been reading about people having water get into the RTK station and it breaking them down though some say they got there's dry and its working again... Have you experienced anything like this with RTK and has it rained hard on them at your families place? Thanks Bro! :) btw I think I might add clear sealant to mine around the led and round rim whenever I order and get my 5000... I just dont want any problems though maybe its super rare

Isn't the Luba blades spinning in both directions. What I mean is one time it would spin clocwise, and the next time counterclockwise. It seems from your video, I understand it only spins in one direction. That is a flaw in the design, as it will only wear out one side of the blades. If they would alternate spinning direction, you would technically only have to change the blades not every 5 months, but every 10 months.
@Crazypostman
@Crazypostman Год назад
Yes it only spins one way. We are responsible for flipping the blades. This could be changed with a software update If they chose.

I have not address to that yet. It seems it is only useful for diagnostic purposes so I'm just going to ignore it and hope it doesn't become an issue. I'm sure it's ruined.
@ironborg6405
@ironborg6405 Год назад
@@Crazypostman ok I was just curious if the 5000 connection issues were resolved or not. I’m still betting the usb c port being the cause. Also have you tried any covers on the cutting disks? I’ve seen videos of people 3d printing some to prevent grass buildup under the blades.
@covertpuppytwo3857

@@ironborg6405 _"I’ve seen videos of people 3d printing some to prevent grass buildup under the blades."_ - I've ordered a pair of them from Thingiverse... I'm hoping they arrive soon because the grass buildup under the blades has been a real annoyance for me. Though I did read on reddit an alternative to it is to use 5M .8 thick shim (washers)... I gave that a thought, but I think these 3d printed plates in the long run is a better option.
