As an almost native speaker of British English (Scottish Gaelic is my mother tongue) I always begin a request of this kind with “Please may I have……”. I have found through experience when ordering goods or services that the “Please may I” opening with a smile is best and generally very well received by people providing the service I want. Its pleasant, courteous and polite all in one. I definitely recommend it.

My son used to tell me these kinds of orders from customers (not all of them of course) when he was working at one of the Starbucks’ branches near our house when he was in HS. My ardor for this remarkable beverage, I must confess, knows no limitations and has engendered an impassioned plea for an encore.
