Thank you so much for this! I have just started this program while teaching FT (even in the summer) and was a bit lost as I graduated in 2014 and it has been a while. I am trying to get back into the "swing of things" during the week I have before summer school so that I can deal when I have 3 days off, and later just two days over the weekend to complete the work as all my time during the week usually goes into prep for teaching.

Yet another extremely helpful video! I would love to see a Grade With Me video where you actually look at someone's paper and do the grading. Do you find that being bilingual yourself helps you to grade more fairly for students who are emerging in their academic English proficiency? I think a lot of monolingual English only students end up being quite harsh on grading as they're focusing less on content and more on grammar.
@Yelbasse
@Yelbasse 4 года назад
I noticed you just watch it lol!! Omg that is an excellent idea! You know what, I hadn't thought about that... I'm bilingual and I don't think I'm an easy or harsh grader. I base myself on the rubric... what I don't understand is some people grade TOO harshly... they take the job of a grader too seriously! I once had someone print out my paper and make comments and annotations on there. They uploaded the pictures on the portal.. That's totally unnecessary!! Even my professor saw that the grade they gave me was unfair (it was a 60/90... she changed it to 80/90). Anyways, hope it helped!!
@TheKPopNerd
@TheKPopNerd 4 года назад
@@Yelbasse Yeah, sorry for any spam! I've been waiting years to start a Master's so I'm digesting as much UoP content as I can right now to kind of celebrate. I'm hoping I don't become too focused on the grades from others, except when there are those occasional harsh grading situations. How often have you had to dispute grades given by other students?
@Yelbasse
@Yelbasse 4 года назад
@@TheKPopNerd I only did it twice in the past two terms but it's very unusual. Professors are very understanding and are quick to address those issues. As long as you follow, the rubric you should be fine. Don't worry about the spam, I encourage it!! Lol just curious, where are you located? And why did you decide to get a master's at uopeople? Are you teaching?

@@Yelbasse While I am American, I'm currently teaching at an international school in Malaysia. I teach 6th grade ESL, provide language support push in, and also teach 7th grade ELA. UoP popped up at a perfect time for me. I wanted to do Western Governor's University, but they don't accept non-military students living abroad. So, I tried to apply to a Malaysian university, but they're not allowing international students now due to Covid19. UoP started popping up on my RU-vid ads and I checked it out. As soon as I saw that the program was created in conjunction with IB, I applied immediately. My school is in the early process of potentially rolling out IB and I'm hoping to get involved. It's funny how doors closing led me to something that will actually open up more doors in international education.

@Yelbasse 4 года назад
Wow, what a cool journey you've taken. All the way to Malaysia! How do you like? How long have you taught abroad? I hope to teach abroad in the next couple of years as well. It will take you a while to get used to the weird navigation of the website but once you get the hang of everything, you will be just fine! And yes I agree, life is just that, takes us into unexpected directions.

Good organization skills with accurate examples and description of what to expect. But I have a question. How can I avoid the work overload, what's the minimum of classes per term/ per week the student can take in the master program?
@Yelbasse
@Yelbasse 3 года назад
Thanks and excellent question! You can take from 1-3 courses per term. For someone working full-time as a teacher, 2 classes can be difficult to manage at first BUT with a little time management & discipline, it is definitely doable (this is my case). When are you thinking of enrolling?
@carloscruz8564
@carloscruz8564 3 года назад
@@Yelbasse I thought of enrolling sometime soon like 1-2 months from now while I was checking on other Universities in terms of class, program structure, major, grades-credits transfer and total cost of the tuition, plus scholarships=which is all a scam and a rip off to lure students to take loans that can't never be repaid under the current economic circumstances.
