I missed you guys. I bought my freezer back in december, and it has been a life saver for us. My husband didn't want a freezer he couldn't understand why we needed it. We are a family of four with variable incomes and before the pandemic i started i filled up our freezer and we've heen eating from there for months now. The price of meat in new york is super high. My meat stash has beef and pork, chicken 3 times cheaper than how it is now at the supermarket. I'm so glad i found you guys, thank you so much.

You guys are awesome. Thank you for this. It makes your book real. I started menu planning from what I have. I can’t believe how much money I saved. My grocery allowance barely got us through to the next pay. Now I have $70- $100 left over to purchase only sale items.

We have an upright freezer in the garage that is definitely NOT a frost free freezer! LOL While I do love it, I do wish we also had a chest freezer (I know, I’m probably in a small minority here) but I do miss having the chest freezer as it always kept everything down low frozen until you were ready to use it. I have found a better way to use our deep freeze though but in a way that it is opened way less than it used to be. The things we eat on a fairly regular basis, is kept in the kitchen combo & the things we don’t so often need or eat are kept in the garage freezer! I use the “shelf” system. One shelf is for veggies/fruit, one is for meat, one is for convenience foods, & one is for bread/tortillas/etc, the door is where popsicles/yeast/flour/butter, soups, & overflow of veggies. & the basket at the bottom is where the broth/stock fixings go once the bags are full (I keep them in the freezer in the kitchen until the bag is full & then they go into the garage freezer until I’m ready to make another batch of broth or stock).

I was so happy when I saw that you had made a video. I got excited when it was on Organizing & Inventorying the freezer. I loved the way that you have your freezer organized. I never thought of using color-coding the bags to help organize it---great idea and so functional. Thank you for explaining so well how to organize a freezer and saying that you like a chest freezer better. Thank You for sharing about how you store the milk. Sometimes when my milk gets past the expiration date I will bake with it, but with your sharing, I will just freeze it into jars---great idea! I just love you two and always enjoy the videos that you make. You always present things that save money and are easy to understand & reproduce. I appreciate you two very much and I have a lot of respect for you & what you do. I organized my freezer a couple of years ago and it has helped so much. I also have an inventory sheet of what is in it. Last year when Aldi had a sale of turkey, $.49/lb. I bought two. I cooked them up and shredded the meat because I don't have a large freezer as you have, but it is big enough for hubby & I. I, also use shredded turkey in place of shredded chicken and we don't notice the difference. Due to the size of my freezer, I didn't have the space to save the bones. I also cook extra food and freeze it.

I am so glad I found your books in my 20’s! You have helped me so much! How do you save your bones and such from your turkeys?

Great question Marisha. We put the turkey carcass in the foil that covered the pan. Fold it over as best we can, and then put it in a plastic grocery bag all tied up. We have a colored canvas bag full of bones in the chest freezer, that we use to make soup with in the wintertime.

To save on freezer burn use a food saver, saves me a ton! I take everything from there store bags an use the foodsaver, last forever! Great video and ideas!

You taught me the bag system many years ago back when I had an upright freezer. It was very hard to do the bag system with that freezer. But I have moved, and now have a small chest freezer 5 cu. ft. But I have my bags, according to you. Only they are not paper bag lined, just because. And they are different colored. But I can find everything. Thank you.

Norma, we agree with you that you cannot use the canvas bag system in an upright freezer. They do work wonderful in a chest freezer! Glad you are staying organized!

I found the diagram in my book. My freezer is about half the size of yours but I can still see this idea working for me. I found a good deal on 10 pound bags of chicken but I didn’t have much room in my freezer because I haven’t organized it yet, I still bought 40 pounds.

Easy - we use either a piece of masking tape or a sticky lable. We have some old dot matrix label sheets and we keep them in a drawer in our kitchen.

2000 a year? I beg to differ.I think its WAY MORE. I bought a deep freezer in November 2019 and i havent had to pay my rent ever since. Because i am able to use my left over grocery money to pay the rent. So the rent money has been going in my savings.

We haven't found a way to salvage freezer burned food. If it's a thick cut of meat you could. try trimming the outside off. The better thing is to store things in airtight containers and use them up before they go bad. Using a frost free freezer contributes to freezer burn. So we use a non-frost free chest freezer.

Maybe if I bought a freezer I won’t ever I have to label the food. My biggest pet peeve of putting food in a freezer is it won’t look like it did when I put it in. If anything it look very strange and even scary. Oh but you heat it up it goes right back it normal.

Christina - labeling things in the freezer is super important ... so is keeping like things together. That's why we like the colored bag idea. You're right that frozen food looks a little different than unfrozen. But in the end it heat up great and tastes wonderfu.
