Hi, how is it going? I ask because I find myself in a similar position. When I married years ago, I had to move to Europe because though my husband and I parted, I thought it was the right thing to do for our two young kids (who are now grown). I have an excellent education ( a law degree and a Masters/doctorate) but I very much want to return to my home in New York and be with my own family, my own life again. But I just keep expecting rejection. It's hard to find ourselves suddenly older, though I do prefer myself now, because our world tends to favor people my son's age (26). It's the first time I have been able to think about what I might want and need in so long. I know I am still affected by my former marriage and constant rejection of me as a person in every way. I just need some hope and a positive experience, even a little one. I think you can understand what that feels like. I hope everything worked out well for you. My daughter (now 19) is learning to code and she loves it. What did you do before? Is this a big shift for you? BTW, just because you think about it and care about it, I can tell you, you are a good husband, I hope your wife appreciates the value of that. I think that is so true. My ex-husband is one of those people who always sees a flaw in everything and the glass is always empty, not even half empty. My sister can be like that too and one of my biggest personal struggles has been to overcome their perfectionism and criticism of everything and everyone. It's exhausting. I have always been the opposite to them but it still affects me. I just cannot imagine living a day and not seeing beauty in it everywhere. I think it's a choice really. I vividly recall making the decision to say good things to people, to see beauty and let life be enough when I was about 7 years old. My sister was nearby with her friend and she was just criticising everything. I wasn't even listening but playing under the maple tree at our grandmother's house. I suddenly felt this sense of being utterly drained, tuned into my surroundings and heard her. She is still that way and I am not.

Well, if I may open up your perspective, the statement actually makes sense if you put it within the context of "Everything that happens in the outer world is a reflection of your inner world" if that makes sense. Thus, whatever you fix inwardly in your self, you fix outwards. That's why the statement is not so contradictory as you think or as it seems.
