Deep breathing, distraction, “Tell-Show-Do” - simple techniques and strategies that are very effective. But, don’t mistake simple for easy!

Finding the right dentist makes such a huge difference. I thought ill never overcome my fear because i always been shamed by dentists or even refused treatment. Until I found my current dentist. She already treated 9 of my teeth and i will not change her for anyone else.

I am the one who has the fear of "pain" and the tools and the procedure. Music doesn't wotk for me, the TV, i don't know. Sedation, I don't know what the meds can do to my body. I just don't know how to overcome this fear of deep pain and discomfort

Nut up and squeeze the shit out of the arm rest as tears roll down your eyes. believe me that is the first step you have to jump head first into it and from there every step is just as hard but in the end you can go from almost pissing and shitting yourself every time you here the word dentist to falling asleep to the noise of the drill. For me after my traumatic child hood experience with the dentist I had for years just had to be put under general anesthesia to get work done but as I got older and the options thinned I just had to sit there listening to hard rock and let him work it was hell in the beginning but after 5 minutes I was chilling. it’s the same thing as a large jump into a pool the hardest part is jumping but as soon as you sit in that chair and let them start drilling you will hit the water climb out and be happy that you did something you thought you never could bed of luck my prayers are with you @jhamar L.B.

I am working with my psychiatrist and therapist on this. Some can prescribe an anxiety medication for the day of the procedure as well.

The dentist i went to sucks. He was so rough and dint work on the pain that i was facing. He work on other areas. He shame me. He had to stop because i was in so much stress and told me to come again next time. Of course, i dint. He just made my fear worst. I need to find other dentist.

For the last three dental visits, I've asked to have the lead apron normally used for x-rays placed on me like a blanket. It's like a weighted blanket and helps keep me calm while my teeth are getting cleaned or cavities are being filled. This makes a big difference for me and is FREE!

If talking to my dentist, listening to music or audio, feeling in control, signaling to my dentist, deep breathing, CBT, pacing procedures, etc worked I wouldn’t be here but hope springs eternal. I like and trust my dentist. Having a tooth removed tomorrow but just reading the dire risks (well the worst is only death! Possible permanent nerve damage, aspirating tooth fragments) let alone the pain! triggers anxiety. Wish me luck 🍀!

I am scared of going to the dentist 😣 My guns started bleeding today and now I’m scared of that! Caught between two fears. It’s not fun. I know I need to go (I’ve been two times in the past 15 years) but I hope I can find one as nice as this man.

Please go you could have gum disease and lose all your teeth! Do you want to wear dentures? Just trying to give you a push. I have dental anxiety too. I tell the dentist I may have to sit up sometimes I get anxiety. I still get nervous every appt but it has lessened. Good luck!! 🌷

today i decided to overcome my fear and went to a root canal specialist it was extremely uncomfortable but if you have a good dentist it makes all the difference. my problem is mainly the sensation I'm very jittery when s/o hands are in my mouth could u address what to do in that kind of scenario thank you!

Thanks for giving this tips. I usually feel nauseous when I'm at the dentist. Just when i feel the chair moving I start gagging. I've been struggling with this since I'm a kid. I hope this will help me... Any other tips for people that feel nauseous?

I have an appointment for a cleaning in an hour, and another one for implants on Monday. Scared is being so far of how I am feeling… I told the dentist that I have anxiety but they only told me to take a diazepam…

I had a large tooth break at the back and a filling fell out just before lockdown. I couldn’t get to see my dentist for nearly 18 months so decay set in, when I got to see her she said oh it has to come out. I also now have a decayed wisdom tooth so need two teeth pulled. I like my dentist but she said can’t do the procedures so sending me to a dentist I don’t know. I had a terrible experience about 15 years ago when a dentist could not get my tooth out and then left bone in it and I had a terrible infection. I never had any fear prior to this. I am having them removed next week and already anxious.

I just went to the dentist and it was so painful and traumatic. He injected the needle right in my nerve and I started crying. It was so scary.

I had two wisdom tooth removed by surgery. My dentist is honestly so kind and helpful but I have a big fear of the chair, pain,sounds, smell, texture of those stuff they put in mouth, being laid on my back.. all of it. Still have another two wisdom tooth to be removed so next appointment is after two days. 😢 wish me luck
