And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful? And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him? How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him? And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

If you listen closely, the teaching is that we need to overcome a fear that separates us from trusting God and living in His peace. That type of fear comes from the enemy of our souls, the fear of earthly circumstances, the fear of the future, the fear of not being in the presence of God rather being astray and not living by faith in Jesus. But the verse you are quoting is exactly the right fear to have, the fear of serving a Holy God who is all powerful, all knowing, and that our lives are in His hands no matter what. We rejoice when we are in His hands because ultimately our lives belong to God alone and we must tremble at the idea of Not being under the protection of a God that is all powerful and that has all things. We must serve the Lord with a reverent fear knowing who He is, and a rejoice with trembling because He is God all mighty who has created all things with the power of his word.

The good kind of fear that the Bible often talks about is a reverence for God. This kind of fear is what the Bible calls the "beginning of wisdom". It's really just a desire for wisdom that comes from a fear of the consequences of acting unwisely. Because if you understand how wisdom can reward you then you will never mock someone ever again for correcting you. They may be sharing treasure with you that you yourself do not know how to find. Psalm 130:4 even says that our fear comes from knowing how much God loves us -- meditate on that for a while! Yes, God is so far beyond our comprehension and we should appreciate His infinite power.
