Hi Yousuf, Your situation is not a one-technique-solving-it stage fright. It takes consistent practice with a step-by-step systematic solution. The starting point is to shift your focus. Instead of thinking about the fear or even the possibility of forgetting every thing, think about what your key message is that you want the audience to take away with; following this key message, what are the major 3 points? Shifting your focus, getting a clear structure and some physical exercise like mentioned in this video, are the 3 starting points. All the best!
cynthia zhai hi this is Abud Atiyyat I kinda need some help with a lot of things but I can't focus and I'm scared every time so Idk what to do and I can't stop it either
I get stage fright in a mostly physical sense. I don't sit there thinking, "What if I screw up? What if I get booed off stage?" A few hours before performing, I just get this physical surge of anxiety. I shake, I get antsy, my stomach gets upset....but my mind is clear. This seems to be instinctual not related to thoughts or focus. Any suggestions? Am I thinking, "OMG I WILL DIE!" and just not realizing it?
+Katie Smith The anxiety you are feeling is nothing more then energy. It just there to remind you that you are present and about to experience something outside your comfort zone, which is amazing because when you step outside your comfort zone it means you are growing. The most helpful thing I can say is use your clear mindset to tell yourself you can do this performance or speech. Do not try to get rid of those bodily feelings, just notice them and then focus back on yourself reminding yourself you know the information and you will perform your speech or performance well. hope that helps.
You are describing ANXIETY but you can mentally SWITCH it to EXCITEMENT just based on how you DECIDE to think about it. I wrote a book and cd program that helps people with this issue BIG TIME. Teh video you just watched just scratches the surface. If you have any questions just look at my videos on stage fright or email me
when i do my presentation my voice will get slower and when ppl point it out that they cant hear me, i get panic and i lose confidence. im so tired of being nervous and shaking like crazy, i really want to overcome this
Same here . i speak fast and usually get blank because of the fear or nervousness. I have completed my 4 years of bachelors and doing masters but stage fright is still the same. I have too many presentations ahead of me but I don't know how am I gonna give them all :(
Here is one of the most horrible regrets of my stage frightI was so exited putting on makeup and hanging with my friends before our play in the dressing room. I had one of the most important parts of the play. When it was finally my turn to sing my solo for the play I was really nervous. I was doing great until.....I CHOCKED. I was so mad at myself for messing up the song. I was waiting for that play and it was all I talked about. And then I chocked. But something really weird happened...... I actually rocked the rest of the song. I don't know why that happened. I guess it was the feeling that I messed up and I couldn't mess up again. Luckily, I have another play just around the corner and this time, I made sure I did research on stage fright. I really am counting on this trick to get me through the play because I couldn't find anything else on the web. Wish me luck! : )
I remember one time. My voice just cracked. I walked off back stage and cleared my throat and walked out there again. I did everything perfect the second time. I think I had about the same thought as you did. "I already messed up, so now I can't do more wrong."
Do the exercises like Cynthia says. Do the presentations and keep doing them. Don't put it off. The more mistakes you make, the better you will get next time!
Hello.. At school I always lose points because I refuse to do a presentation 😓.. My legs shake and I become tense. My mouth stops moving and I lose control. My face gets red and I start mumbling. Please help 😢
If I was you, I would talk to my teacher and tell them how I feel about talking to the class, and he/she should understand and you two could maybe work something out so you can still get all the points.
I've had stage fright for years I work with children and even doing circle time makes me nervous so I'm going to practice this technique when I am at work tomorrow. So far breathing exercises have helped a bit. Thank you
You are really smart. I really like your energy and the way you explain things. It never made sense how everyone always says prepare, prepare and prepare. They clearly don't understand how bad stage fright can get even a few days before the actual performance.
It is so kind of you and your team to put out such helpful information. Due to trauma, stress, and illness I’ve been away from the stage for years and am just now strong enough to face down my last and largest dragon, stage fright. It has sabotaged so many opportunities, mostly before they ever have a chance to happen because of the fear of it happening. The fear of fear is a powerful thing and it you just gave me a huge boost in my fight against it…or rather my welcoming of it…I’m super grateful, and I’m so excited for my next opportunity to be a good testimonial, I’ll be practicing!
Thanks a lot Cynthia, this exercise is actually effective. Yesterday I had a presentation for my upcoming project. I have a good idea which is actually convincing but the problem could be my nervous way of presenting it. I tried to shift my focus and performed the exercise just before entering in the room, I got myself back into the practical situation rather than just thinking about what will happen if they caught I'm nervous :). And yes, along with the exercise, few times of stage experience will surely make anyone like me a decent stage speaker. Thanks again.
I have a presentation to do tomorrow in my class, I have the worst stage fright in my class, mostly because I'm no really friends with most of them, and it takes me like 2 minutes before I finally speak -_-
+DaniLovesYou this video kinda helped, but i just took deep breathes and spoke, i remembered basically everyone in my class was scared to do it so i wasnt the only one who was worried to speak in from of 20 ppl.
Another tip is to do box counting (breathe in for four, hold for four, breath out for four, hold for four, etc) if you don't wanna make it obvious that your tensing up. 😁 that might help
I really like what you had to say. My perception of what you said is to refuse to focus on the anxiety, but when I get horrible physical symptoms the night before, it's practically impossible. The only thing that seems to work is when I tell myself that I'm cancelling or I'm not going to sing but that only works for rehearsals. I think if I don't get any sleep that I will do a terrible job and then I imagine the rejection and failure being able to kill me. Yes, it's childish, but that is what I go through
I don't mess up when I have stage fright. I want to get over stage fright though because I'm tired of feeling it everytime I go to perform. This really helped me! thanks a ton!
I'm happy I've stumbled upon this video. My best friend and I are audition for a solo song for a school concert tomorrow and we are both nervous. I will tell her about this.
Everytime I got stage fright I would have a panic attack and just go off the stage telling my teacher I will do it again later if there is few people. After I got off stage I would cry my heart out. Because everytime I am on the stage people judge me makibg me think negatively about myself that I forgot the thing I was about to present
Thank you so much for this video Cynthia, have a dream job interview tomorrow and have been anxious for a few days now. Doing this exercise called me all the way down.
I do not suffer from stage fright at all but I found myself here and I loved this video! As a former athlete (collegiate wrestling), FOCUS is absolutely the key to keeping one’s mind solely on only the task at hand and, parallel to that, keeping negative thoughts locked out.) Thank You for helping so many people who do suffer from performance anxiety, you are extremely well spoken, very professional in your presentation, and a very kind and giving person.
Hi I am a very shy girl whenever I do presentations my legs shake and my face turns really red and I choke on my words and I also LOVE to sing I've always dream of singing in front of my school and anywhere because I want them to know the real me like what I really like to do but I'm too shy to let the inside of me become the outside of me please help me and when I sing in my living room I sing really loud and then my parents come in and I stop singing them my parents say why I stopped singing and I say because I'm too shy please answer me!!!!!! I really need your help
Hi this all sounds very logical the only problem is i usualy get stage fright during the performance and doing this exercise with hundreds of people already watching me would look very unusual. Is there a less obvious way to shift focus so that people dont see me tense up while im trying to shift focus?
I've heard it from enough audiences to realize almost no one notices, but for me it's shakiness and loss of fine motor control. As an instrumentalist/vocalist type this can be the cause of a shaky start sometimes. I usually overcome it by starting off with a few fast paced, high-energy tunes to get me settled in and work with the shakes while I work them out.
Thursday is my school talent show I made it in and I'm so scared but I did it before it's just been a while so I needed some advice thank you so so much 😭😩
When I go to an interview I always be scared and don't know how to stop be fright in a interview and same as stage fright as well I want to sign up for AGT but I feel everyone will laugh at me when I do something because I always like to have someone right next to me to tell if they can help me with my stage fright but I don't cry but I get scared and nervous when people look at me like I got something wrong
I am always shy and had stage fright so that's why i came here so i can learn on how to overcome my stage fright and thank you so much for this wonderful video it really helps me a lot❤️
DuhhItzTrinity don't worry you'll be amazing!!I had to sing in front of 2 million ppl and I was nervous as hell but don't worry-your not nervous, your excited!!!
I just think that what if the people around me thinks Im just no good enough, my jaw starts shaking, and i forget what i was saying, and im having trouble breathing and my palms are getting sweaty
Whenever I go up and do a presentation to my class, my vision is blurry and black , I feel like I'm paralyzed ,my legs start shaking and I have hard time breathing. Do you have any advice on that ??? Like how to stop it .
Hi. I am usually well prepared for my presentations, but sometimes my voice shakes too much. I don't know why that happens, in fact I am not even afraid of giving the presentation. The shaking just happens automatically and AFTER it happens, I lose my confidence. Is there any way you can help me out? 😞

Question! I've been doing better about my own stage fright and even though I feel calm (or at least I think I'm calm), I will sometimes have to deal with a shaky voice and shortness of breath while I try to sing. Is there an exorcise or a mental exorcise to help with this?
Hi Ashlyn, yes, as you've realized, if you still had a shaky voice and shortness of breath, you were still experiencing the nervousness. The best way is to learn using your diaphragm to support your voice projection so you won't experience that. At the moment, what you can do is to slowly breathe out first (this is the key), then take another few slow and long breaths in and out a few times. Mentally, believe you can do it and you have a great gift to sing and touch others. All the best!
Can you help me too? I have a stage fright and i really dont know how to conquer it. When im on stage, my heart beats really fast and my body shakes, when i speak my voice cracks :( I have a speech for our graduation i dont know what to do huhu
Thanks, i think this will help for me, i am an Auditor so naturally i cant escape from presentations and for a long time i was wishing i had just gone into Veterinary, where i could have been just attending to animals
Hi your video was amazing and help , I m having stage fear, and to explain in class I become nervous, I sweat, and also shaking can u give me some advices!!
That use to happen to me and a lot of my friends too. Untill I started thinking through a lot of my fears and worries like I would say, "what if I forget a line" or something, so I would think it through and say "well then I will forget and life will move on I will just move on to the next line." After doing this I found there is nothing that can happen to me on stage that could ruin my life forever. Check out my channel and my video, "How I never get stage fright" I list all the exercises I do that have helped me destroy my own stage fright! I wish you the best of luck!!❤️
Hi, I was just wondering what you do if you actually do forget what to say. For example; your singing a song in front of people w/ the music but no lyrics and you forget what comes next, what do you do?
One time I wanted to do stand up comedy for the school talent show, and before the show I started laughing nervously, and I was doing a cringeworthy smile. When I walked up on stage I couldn't say anything and I still kept on smiling and laughing. How do I overcome this?
