In this video I break down exactly how I pack my aero road bicycle into the Scicon Aerocomfort 3.0 without taking my handlebars off for a flight all the way to the other side of the world for a cycling event. I offer up a few of my favorite tips and show you exactly how I protect my carbon road bicycle frame from being damaged by the airlines.
This bag has been a game changer for me and allowed me to race stage races in other states and transport my bike to events I'd have otherwise had to rent a bike at. There's nothing quite like it on the market and when I purchased it the price was right.
Make sure you protect your bike properly. I chose the Orucase Frame Protection Kit because I didn't want to risk a $7,000 bike being cracked or completely destroyed at the will of TSA.
The Scicon Aerocomfort 3.0 flew for free on Air Canada and no overweight fees or any issues popped up getting it through customs, etc.
The bike arrived in Copenhagen, Denmark with zero damage and was in perfect condition thanks to the Aerocomfort 3.0 and the Orucase Frame Protection Kit.
I hope this helps you pack your bike bag for your next flight.

Did you unscrew the rear derailleur from the frame? Thanks for the video.

Nope! The Orucase frame protection kit has a piece that mostly protects the RD. I haven’t had any issues with it being bent but that could be a concern if the airlines really throw it around.

Ty for the video. You ever try the orucase bag itself?

I have not. Reason being is the hydraulic brake lines attached to my bars and the way my headset is integrated, didn’t make sense for me but it is far more compact so it could definitely be a better option for some!

Ive never had to take off di2 battery on the airport. I know they scan the bike box for batteries but i think the di2 battery is too small for it to matter.

“Lithium-ion batteries are considered dangerous goods when transported by air and are not allowed in the cargo holds of passenger aircraft. The fear is that if they catch fire, they could go into thermal runaway, a chain reaction that occurs when the battery rapidly increases in temperature and releases energy. This could cause a catastrophic explosion, as the volatile gases build up pressure in the cell and rupture the battery. The resulting fire could release volatile organic compounds that can ignite when they come into contact with oxygen in the air. The cargo holds of planes are not designed to handle such a blaze, and the heat and smoke from the fire could damage the liners or pressure relief panels. Safety analysts warn that this type of fire could even take down a plane”

@@ck21985 hubs really don’t have anything to do with your shifters or derailleurs. I’m still not sure I understand but nonetheless nothing on the bike seemed at risk! So no issues here.

@@WaltDoesBikes sorry i am not native english speaking. I mean the Things at the cockpit. You break and shift with them and they stand a bot up. I worry about them a bit.
