In our country(China), we started to have a large screen pager that can display Chinese characters in the early 1990s. At that time, we had to call the people at the service desk and tell them what we wanted to send out. Then the people at the pager used the computer to type the Chinese characters and send them to the third person, so that the Chinese characters could be delivered. For example, if A wants to send Chinese characters to B, A should first call the service personnel, the the personnel sent the Chinese characters to B
@@kingjakewolf5348 You've been watching to much sitcom. Most doctors today use a smartphone. shi honestly even a smart watch is better than a pager these days. They've become obsolete in all areas. If you buy one, no matter what you say to me, I know for a fact you're just doing it for the novelty of having something retro, and lying to yourself in the process XD
Of course when I lose my pager again after another move I find ur channel to activate it 🤦🏻♂️ but I love the videos tho brings back so many memories 😂
Old times? You mean the 1980's and 1990's? lol. They worked exactly as shown in our video. Of course, the page wasn't sent from a folding smartphone as shown in our video, but more likely a landline or payphone. Return phone calls after someone was paged were also returned by landline or payphones. However cellular phones were just starting to become a device for the masses by the mid 1980's as car mounted cell phones, bag phones and "brick phones" became less expensive.
A lot of the doctors in my hospital still use pagers. We use the American Messageing System. Always wondered what that was everytime I would hear our Secretary dial those numbers and I would hear those messages.
I had a few back in the day one for every member of my family members it came in useful when I was working on a building sites and I had a family emergency
I didn't fully follow. What information is the person on the pager side getting? Does it tell them "X Number said 1234567" or are they just getting a message saying "1234567" and they don't know who sent it? I'm "young" but I remember my dad having a pager, and from what I remembered it would buzz and show him a number he needed to call back.
@@kingjakewolf5348 wow, so then hypothetically someone could call from their cell phone, type my cell phone number when prompted and the person with the pager will think I paged them?
The type of pagers that we are referring to in this video require a paid service plan similar to that of a cellular phone, however pagers have their own paging network that work independently from cellular networks. You will notice that we reference Spok and American Messaging in the video, those are the two national pager carriers within the USA that provide paging service and that PagersDirect utilizes. In-House pagers are the type of pagers that work within a building such as restaurant pagers or nurse-call pagers, they do not require a service plan but require in an building pager transmitter.
Hi, If you purchase from PagersDirect, the pager phone number is included with the pager or emailed to you while the pager is in transit. Can you use it all the time instead of a phone? Sure, if you want to, but you will probably want to call back at least some of the people that paged you.
It's been a long time I forgot how to use a pager but I do not remember using a tablet matter fact I didn't even have a tablet is there another way to do it
Hi Karen, you can page a numeric pager from any touch tone phone and you can send an alphanumeric page via email using any device capable of sending an email. Thanks!
Yes, pagers require a service plan to function just like a Cellular phone requires a service plan. When you purchase your pager at pagersdirect.net, we offer each pager with a service plan so you buy the pager with service as a package and then we continue to bill you for service until you let us know to cancel. Thank you for your interest!
The pager pictured is the Motorola Advisor Elite. We are out of this model but we have an identical model called the Unication Alpha Elite which has a green backlight. They are available to order in the alphanumeric pager category at pagersdirect.net Thank you for your interest.
In some situations a text MAY work but also may not work. We recommend using email as it's more reliable across the board. Some of of our clients enter the entire pager email address in the "to field" of a text message and that can work as well.
Hi, Yes, if the pager is programmed with the same capcode and frequency and is in the same coverage area of the original pager, it will receive the same pages with one exception... If the pager is an encrypted pager, even if programmed exactly the same, it will only display gibberish as the encryption will not allow duplication unless the pager is set up at the paging carrier level to receive group pages.
Hi! Dialing a pager phone number is the same as calling a regular phone. Although PagersDirect.net only offers service within the United States, a person from another part of the world can still dial the pager phone number. In addition, if using one of the virtual paging apps that we offer, as long as the phone has either a cellular signal or wifi signal, it can still receive pages in any part of the world that has reception. Our only limitation is that in order to place an order, your billing address must be within the United States.
Yes, voicemail is an option with any of our pager services. However, when you receive a notification that there is a voicemail, you will need to call in and enter your access code to listen to the voicemail. You won't hear the message on the pager and it won't be transcribed into text on an alpha pager.
Contact your pager service provider if your service plan is current. Some people think the pager phone number stays with the pager for life. It doesn't. Once you stop paying for the service, the number is disconnected and could transfer to someone else.
Hi, most of our clients use their pager for urgent time is of the essence notifications. They only give their pager phone number out to their important contacts. A contact would usually enter their callback phone number when paging the pager. If a random number came up like the one you typed, it would be considered a spam call and be ignored.
