I just got my Complete cowl off Etsy and I’m getting ready to start my long awaited journey of putting together a full “the batman” bat suit. These vids are so niché and so helpful thanks so much brother 🙏🏼
Was hoping to see an airbrush kit on sale for Black Friday that I have been eyeing up, but unfortunately it didn’t go on sale. So I’m still currently without a replacement. I’ll probably end up picking up a cheap one and doing the video in the next few weeks 👍
Yep! However, cowls that have a smooth surface, I’d recommend using an airbrush instead of by hand and as always, do a small test spot on it before fully committing just in case.
Great video! I have both of those cowls myself, and based on your recommendation, I've got the Angelus paint coming in tomorrow... I'm going to use it on the Rubies first. I've also just received my undersuit from LFV, and I'm considering purchasing their cape, so I'm looking forward to seeing your videos on those. Keep up the good work! 👍
Thanks for the comment! Let me know how you do with it and feel free to let me know if you have any questions and I can try to help out where I can. Aiming to have the video out for the suit and cape out this weekend provided all goes well for time. *thumbs up*
Using a high grit (like 2000 or higher) and or an adhesion promoter can definitely help when using the Angelus leather paint for super smooth finishes. Definitely would recommend using an airbrush and not by hand for that one.
Whether it was regular latex or foam latex, I’d personally want to run that through an airbrush. I wouldn’t hand paint that like this cowl. The cowl is textured, which helps his streak lines from the foam brush. Smooth surfaces I’d say airbrush 99% of the time. You may have to find a thinner to work with your latex paint though (hopefully it’s costuming latex paint).
As long as it’s not latex paint from a regular paint store (there is costuming/mask making latex paint you can buy from places like monster makers). I haven’t used it in a long time personally, but most paints like that you can get a thinning additive to mix with it when you spray it through an airbrush. Angelus leather paints has something like that as well for theirs.
This is a urethane cowl in the video and it has lasted just fine on mine (again, VERY thin coats). The texture of this cowl also helps not see any of the hand painted strokes. If it is a smooth/non textured urethane cowl, highly recommend using an air brush and as always, do a small sample on your cowl before going and doing the whole thing, just in case. Different makers use different additives in their casts which can throw off the chemical makeup of the urethane rubber.
Angelus leather paint is designed to be water proof and scratch proof. You can purchase finishes to apply, however that is typically used to change the sheen/look of the paint. Example being gloss or matte. The only time I’ve really seen issues with this product is when people use too much and cake it on, at which point you will get cracking like any other paint.
