I love your videos. I'm still quite new to the Reborn doll hobby. And I can't get my own because I can't afford one. So I enjoy watching others who share about their Reborns. Your channel is one of my favorite channels related to this hobby, thank you for providing us with good content!
Hi. I got my first kit from Amazon it was 30 something. I'm using basic acrylic paints. Same as she's using here. You don't have to spend a lot of money!
You are amazing! I am an artist who has just discovered reborns and was convinced it was out of my budget to ever make my own baby. You have given me hope. I can not get over Clover's hair, it is soooo realistic. Also, ignore your husband her eyebrows are perfect! Lol. I'm so glad I found your channel you are an inspiration.
I LOVE your videos! They are so helpful and I just received my first doll kit a couple days ago. I have been watching so many tutorials and then i found you and i love that your dolls aren't super red or orange. they're very lifelike and their skin is so much more realistic. Thank you for posting!!
Okay Sharon...boy I'm glad I didn't miss this video. You really have me wanting to try air dry paints now! Love how you were so specific about the steps! You're a very thorough instructor!! You truly made me want to get back to painting. Thank you for doing this type of video. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
she came out gorgeous and cute little baby girl. love her too. you're amazing and talented. congrats may the Lord bless you through this journey with this amazing hobby
What a great video Sharon, so helpful! As always! Love her name Clover too, so cute! Thanks for being so willing to share your techniques and experiences with us, it's so appreciated! I find your voice so comforting to listen to, and you really have the gift of encouragement! Blessings on you sister!
Hi I really injoy watching your videos and your the reason why I started reborning I bought my first reborn kit Celeste I hope to paint myself 😊 I hope she comes out beautiful as your babies.thank you for your videos I'm learning. 🤗 God Bless
She’s really sweet! I love her little face4! I enjoy your instructional videos. I just bought everything I need to start making my own reborns. I’m looking forward to the process, just have to get my desk set up with all my supplies. I’ve watched your other videos too. Hope you have a fabulous weekend! Hugs, Summer xo
She is lovely! I want to start reborning. I love to be creative and have been looking for something to paint and I think these dolls will be perfect! Ty for the video!
Hi Sharon, I loved this video so much 😍 thank you so much for sharing bless you 😀 💞 I so badly want to do a proper kit now! 😃 I have just finished a10 inch doll and ohhhh it was so fidley to do with all the tiny details haha 😱 but it was so relaxing and it is very rare for me to relax as I suffer with very bad anxiety... I can't believe I'm admitting it on here as well 😱😲😳🤫🙈🙈 but I do love your videos ⭐ 😍 I think it's because you have a very calming voice! Thank you so much again for sharing sending love and hugs your way xxxxx 🇬🇧
I’m just beginning to start reborning as a hobby. I was planning on buying an already made baby, but decided I may bond better if I create them myself. This video is SO HELPFUL.
I just found your channel looking for help in air dry painting my first baby. Like you I have birds (cockatiels) and was worried about fumes if I used heat set paint. I just wanted to say how much in awe I am of your beautiful artistry. You are clearly a very gifted lady and it is wonderful to get to see the reborning process by someone so talented. I just love your babies and your birdies (there is nothing nicer to me, than the sound of happy birds!), and I wanted to say thank you to you for sharing your God given gift with us all! Clover is just gorgeous, as are all your babies. Hugs from Ruby in the UK xxxxxxx
Hi i am just getting ready to start reborning and it was great to see this using the paints that you do. Iv got something else so see how it goes lovely Hi Clover xox
I haven't tried reborning a doll yet, but hope to find time to start some practice pieces in the next couple of months or so. I hope to have finished as many as I plan on completing by the end of spring. I'm thinking if the arthritis in my hands will alow, I might get three to five dolls complete by mid to late spring. Thank you so much for the video. It was very informative. My art background should help pretty well with my hue and tonal balance awareness. Can't wait to get started.
Thank you so much, i am planning to make a reborn for my grandma's birthdays that looks like my dad as a baby and this was very helpful for it. Its also my first time painting a reborn, so wish me luck
Thank u for making this video, I'm working on my first reborn, so I needed to know what colors to layer with to get the beautiful tones, very appreciative.
Yes, layering is very important. After flesh tone, you can add a little bit of red/purple to the flesh to give it more life; if too red, add some yellows; if too peach or yellow add some purples or blues. It's important to look at each layer and compare with your own skin tone, too. Different ethnic groups have different tones - I'm sure you already know that! I prefer blue/purple undertones to peach undertones myself. Good luck and let me know how your first doll turns out!
@@tinaluv1677 You are very welcome. I enjoy helping people paint and not be afraid to experiment with color. I sometimes add a thin layer of baby brown if the skin just doesn't seem like it has enough 'color', even for Caucasian babies!
Since I just found you, I am watching older videos. Enjoy all. After watching this, I was thinking about trying to do a reborn. Since I am a disabled widow and can’t buy one. But after watching you I know that with my shakeing I won’t be trying one.
I love your videos, as i also use air dry folk art paints. It would have been nice to see you actually paint the hair and brows. Maybe next time show how you do the hair, what brush you use. It is very beautiful and looks like real hair. thank you
Thank you for the video. I am curious as to does the air dry paints mixed with the glass medium you have in your other video peel off like genius heat set paints do.
What where the 3 colors name you used ? And thanks so much for uploading this video . I am starting to reborn and I am trying to figure out how to use acrylic paint on reborns.
It's very relaxing and informative. Basically you go with very "subtle" layers (very diluted colors), starting with a skin color that you keep perfecting with the neutrilizing/warming laser and in beetwin you add details as veins "mottling" (spell correct?? ) frackles..i am in love with the yellow on the nose.
Exactly. I add blue (subtly) at the bridge of the nose and on the sides of the lower nose also on the inside ankle bone area and in the center of the bottom of the foot. Blue needs to be added very carefully because it is difficult to correct if it's too dark. I add purple (thin, watery layer) where baby's skin is thinner like the crease on the inside of the knee. I mix blue with purple and put it on the bulb of the thumb on the underside. I sometimes dab a little bit of this color above the eyebrows too. I will add a hint of yellow on the upper forehead just under the hairline in the front, too.
Thanks, Sharon, for the good information. Also, I was just wondering where you get the peg board to hold the doll parts while painting and air drying? Thank you!
Dolls by Sandie. It's a lot of money now - more than when I bought it. It's $25 plus shipping. They have a plastic one for $2.99 that I had as well but sold it. It's perfectly fine though.
Hi Sharon loving your folk art acrylic reborning I started off using special care nursery as I dry paints BUT always used the folk art tile and glass medium to make the paint adhere to the vynal ☺ I was wondering if you can tell me, with the folk art paint wen checking for thinness to apply should you be able to see the color your using when you check by brushing it onto the kitchen towel many thanx for your continued help Rosemarie 👌❣x
Awesome video well explain I just purchased a vinyl kit and watching your videos before I start I have a question when paint with the acrylics paints do I have to cure on the oven in every layer or not at all thanks for your very good videos I'm your subbie love to watch your videos.
If you are using acrylics with distilled water and mixing in a tiny bit of glass & tile medium, just let it dry a few minutes before each layer. No need to bake. I only bake at the end, and I use a Genesis product that requires baking - I like this better at the end. Sharon
I bake at the end with Genesis thinning medium. You don't have to bake with acrylics but you must seal it at the end with glass & tile medium, which takes some practice. Hope this helps! Sharon
Do you bake you doll when you use acrylics? If so how many times? every layer? I have a Nuwave oven so How long do I bake the doll per layer and what setting do I use? Maybe you could do a video on baking with Acrylic. Is Heat set paint steps the same as Acrylic sets?
I only bake at the end. I use Genesis thinning medium as my final coat. I bake twice - I wait for the vinyl to cool first and then re-bake. I use power level 6 (which I believe is 250 deg.) for 10 minutes. My Nu-Wave oven has the extender ring so that the heating element is further away from the vinyl which are on top of a soft towel. Genesis paints are oil based and MUST be baked. Acrylic paints are water based and do not have to be baked. The final step that I bake makes them "matte", and slightly textured. I do it to make the paints more durable. Hope this helps. Sharon
Can you do a tutorial on painting hair, please? Thank you so much for posting your process...it’s so hard to find good artists that use acrylics (that share their knowledge, anyways!)!!
I use folk art glass & tile medium as a final coat applied with a cosmetic wedge or I will use Genesis thinning medium and bake. This final step takes a lot of practice.
Hi, I've always used Genesis paints. Could you tell me how 'permanent' the paints you use are? Do you seal it somehow so the paint doesn't rub off? I'm tempted to try this way myself if I don't have to constantly use the oven. Thanks in advance for any comment :)
They are permanent if you apply them correctly. I seal with folk art glass & tile medium which does not require baking. Sometimes I even use Genesis Matte Varnish and bake on acrylic-painted babies. You need to add the glass & tile medium with your paint and distilled water - every batch. Hope this helps.
Thank you so much for this video. Do you have a list of your essential colors that you use. At the end when you said you baked her do you actually put her in the oven? Or how does that work? When a baby does turn out to be shiny what do you use? Also when you make her lips and nail shiny what do you use you didn’t mention it? Thank you so much.
Essential colors are flesh, reds, purples, pinks, peach, blue, yellow, mint green, and browns. You can use Folk Art Outdoor Sealer (matte) as a final coat to prevent shiny-ness. You don't need to bake acrylic paints, only Genesis heat set paints, and then use a Nu-wave oven with the extender ring, never use a kitchen oven as fumes are toxic. Hope this helps!
What a beautiful baby you have created! Thank you so much for sharing your process. You are very talented and the obvious pleasure that you have from what you do comes out in your videos. :) I have a doll that has a shiny look to her skin instead of the flat matt that I'd like her to have. Especially on her face. Do you have any suggestions as to how I could take the shine away?
I use Genesis Thinning Medium applied with a mop brush on a cosmetic wedge that has the top ripped off to create texture. I bake in my nu-wave oven at power level 6 for 10 minutes, wait for the vinyl to cool and re-bake. You can use Plaid Folk Art Glass & Tile Medium applied and pounced with a cosmetic wedge as well (if you don't want to bake). This take some practice and requires a few coats. This product is available at Joann's fabrics, or ebay, or directly from plaid folk art's website.
Thank you very much for your quick reply! I already have some of the Glass & Tile Medium on it's way to me in the mail right now! So I guess that's what I'll try first. :) Can the Genesis Thinning Medium be used after having applied the Glass & Tile Medium if it doesn't "matt it down" enough? Also, I don't have a nu-wave oven. Just a regular one in my kitchen. Can I use that and what heat would you suggest?
When you use the glass & tile medium, you need to stir it really well with a wooden craft stick, because the thick part rests at the bottom, and that's the part you really want. Yes, you can use the thinning medium on top of the glass & tile medium. I would not use an oven in my home, as the fumes will go throughout your house and they are not safe. I only bake in my portable oven either outside when the weather cooperates or in my garage. You can google what temp to bake your kit. I actually don't remember. I put my nu-wave oven on power level 6 for 10 minutes. Wait for the vinyl to cool, and re-bake.
You can use the glass & tile medium as a seal coat; however, it is difficult to master and requires multiple applications. You need to keep using a new cosmetic wedge, as the medium will become saturated on the sponge and not give you the desired "matte". You should also keep washing your mop brush in between applications, because the medium will "collect" on your brush and make globs stick on your vinyl. You will eventually get the hang of it. I have even successfully baked the doll with just the acrylic paint and glass & tile medium on it - I hope this was helpful. Sharon x0x0
Boy Sharon you are good at this, the complexion of this doll is superb, her face looks lit from within. Can you tell me why you changed to heat set paints? I hope you are well and you and your family had a lovely Easter. Jo x
I switched just because I wanted to experience Genesis again but I do like both methods. Thank you for checking in. My camera is broken, waiting for another, so thus no videos for quite a while. My sister passed away on Easter. She was suffering with brain cancer and a host of other complications. She hung in there for weeks, until they put her in hospice on Thursday. We are going to be ok, but my poor brother-in-law and my sister were together for 59 years - married for 54 and dating for 5. She left behind 3 lovely ladies (my nieces) and 6 grand children. They were a very close family. I was sad that I couldn't fly up to NJ from FL, but I stayed in constant touch on the phone. Just wanted someone to know. Thanks for your prayers. Sharon
I'm new to this but really want to make a kit. Are air dry paints known to chip more and is there a brand that's best or a type of vinyl that takes the air dry paint better
German vinyl is the best for any paint absorption. I like Folk Art matte acrylics mixed with Folk Art Glass & Tile Medium. This medium makes the acrylics stick more to the vinyl. I add a heaping brush full into distilled water and then add my paints.
Hello Sharon I am practising air dry painting and am having a go at painting hair as well . What do you use if you make a mistake and you want to remove some to re-do it? I thought it was water but that wouldn't work so wondered if you used something different ? Thanks Sharon from Julie 🥰👍Your videos helped me make my mind up to use air dry paints so you have already been very helpful and Clover is gorgeous 🧡💜💛❤️💚💙
Hi Julie. Try using rubbing alcohol mixed with water. If that doesn't work, try just rubbing alcohol, but it will remove a LOT! If you want to start conservatively, just use a little Dawn dishwashing liquid mixed with hot water. Then add some rubbing alcohol with water and take it from there. If you want to remove everything down to the bare vinyl, then you will need paint remover, which has a horrid smell, or nail polish remover, which also has a horrid smell. Hope this helps a little. Good luck! Sharon
ohhhh 🙈🙈🙈 sorry I hope I have just found the video I asked about in my last question lol I do hope I won't need the kindle book nw .?fingers crossed love your videos Rosemarie x
I don't prep the kit beforehand - just wash the kit in Dawn liquid and hot water to remove oils/dust. I seal with Genesis Thinning Medium applied on a "ripped off tip" of a cosmetic wedge (to provide texture) with my mop brush and bake in my Nu-Wave oven on power level 6 for 10 minutes - let cool and re-bake.
