I figured out a simple way to get a great looking rusty patina on diecast cars or really anything else you'd like to use it on whether it be Warhammer 40k, DnD, Gaslands, or maybe just scale models and dioramas.

A fantastic result from what looks like a simple technique. Used drybrush on Warhammer models but I admit never thought of using it this way. Thanks

Give it a go! I think it works well on diecast as the metal sheen can still show through.

That's a really interesting technique Ben - I can't wait to give it a try. As far as picking a favorite, the red wheeled roadster is my choice...but I'm sure that doesn't come as any surprise given how I like to add red to builds lol.

Effective patina technique, Ben. I've not seen that done before with the Matte clear as a base. As with all your great ideas, I'll be experimenting! I'm using the '32 Ford Uno for my next Fury Road vehicle. Gotta go with the Deuce as my favourite in this one, though they all look cool. Big thumbs up from the land of cheese and chocolates! 🍁☕👍

Thanks Andrew! The Deuce is such a solid casting it's stiff competition. I assume you will be making the one with two inline engines, right?

@@BPCustomCreations Yes, I've heard it referred to as the Elvis! Just rewatched the movie the other night for inspiration. I'll be resin printing the extended chassis to house the engines, and probably a set of wheels too. I plan these out far in advance in order to let the ideas percolate a while...

Nice one Ben, very cool technique. I definitely be giving it a go. On Plastic of course but if a spray it metallic first I think this method would still work. All awesome cars but the one with the red wheels is my favourite. 🤖👍

Thanks Jimmy! Its always fun to figure out new ways to do things. The reason I like this is it leaves the metal shining through instead of just straight rusty colors! Probably comes across better in person but give it a go!

Army painter rough iron with a brush of gunmetal pigments and orange rust pigments makes a really good realistic rust look and for heavy rust put some typhous corrosion and a drybrush of ryza rust then a wash of Agrax earth shade the gunmetal pigment then rust pigment

What do you use to clean off the Nasty Chrome on the Frames??? Love The rusty LOOK!!

Thanks! The chrome on the plastic comes off in regular bleach in less than a minute 👍

Do you think it would be worth it to apply a paint chipping technique after this as well?

Do you mean by using chipping medium or salt chipping style techniques? It would work if you could get it applied underneath the varnish but I think dry brush over the entire car would rub off any chipping medium you try to use. I am not super familiar with those techniques though so it's worth trying for sure!

@@BPCustomCreations I was thinking salt chipping after doing this. So you get the texture of the varnish together with the paint chipping visual.
