How to paint a Victorinox Alox Swiss Army Knife

In this video I show how to use nail polish to paint the scales on a Victorinox Alox Swiss Army Knife, and then use sandpaper to achieve virtually the same look you would get with a well loved anodized scale. I use black in this video, but you could choose any color you can find. One of the best parts about this is you can easily remove the color if you don't like it, get sick of it, or just want to change it. All you would need is a little acetone (nail polish remover) and it would be back to silver.

Instead of sanding, use a lightly camp cotton swab with acetone to rub off the top.

I will have to give that a shot next time.

You should try a thinner grain and water sandpaper to a better and shinny finnish. I think that a 600 grit is a bit too rough. I would try with a 1000+ grit.

If I wanted it smoother and shinier, I think that would be a good idea, I kind of like the matte look.

Gelcoat acrylic paint for nails better than lacquer paint !!!

I know almost nothing about nail polish, so I will take your word for it, and keep an eye out for that next time I am in need. Thanks for the info.

Could you use a scotchbrite pad,?? Just thinking of not harming the original surface too much,, great video..
@JoshsShop
@JoshsShop 2 года назад
I don't see why you couldn't use a scotchbrite pad. You could also try dipping a cloth in acetone (nail polish remover) and waiting till it is just about dry and use it to gently wipe away a bit of the polish. That for sure wouldn't harm the original surface.

If the original silver darkened with use id be tempted to paint the scales on my Farmer red or another bright colour but so far, no darkening at all but who knows.

What are the first experiences; does the nail polish still on?
@JoshsShop
@JoshsShop 4 года назад
I have carried it for a few weeks now, and used it daily, the nail polish is still holding strong. I will post a video again at the one month mark so everyone can see.

I've got to try this on one of my Alox MiniChamps.

It does work surprisingly well. I think if I were to do it again I would try a rag very lightly dipped in acetone (nail polish remover) rather than the light sandpaper at the end.
