Dear Mr. Waddell, Let me first introduce myself, I am Ybo Houttuin, a 63 years old painter from Amsteram, The Netherlands. As a lucky european i have on short distance acess to the entire art history in many Musea. I like your videos and watch them often. You teach technics in a way everybody can understand and benefit from it. And, off course, the alla prima is what many people like, they want results immidiatly. Its not the workshop off Van Eyck and his brother, they worked 22 years! on the triptiek, you can vistit in the St Bavo in Gent, Belgium. There technic is one where time is the main artist. The start is a drawing and then, very exact, painting in gray. So they made a B/W picture! Over it came the glazing, very thin, glazing for many years, accents on details and glazing on for 22 years.... The only exception is Hans Holbein the Younger, who made a drawing, put one ground layer and finished off with one glazing. Nowerdays, time disapired, people seem to run towards death. Why this story? Considering your knowledge, your skills and experience I just wonder what would you be able to create in this medivial technic. And if you want to see the Boys from Belgium again, I hereby invite you in our house in Amsterdam. Please, excuse my faults in Englisch writing as I hardly do... Ybo Houttuin
I follow you here and on Patreon, and i don't know how many people have told you, but for me, you are the best teacher i have found! And i am so happy !! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! God bless and take care! ❤
You are simply amazing. An incredibly skilled and experienced painter, an extremely generous teacher and I don't know you personally, but it appears you are an intrinsically great human. Thank you for all of it 😊
I use a small truck lettering brush to do crisp & slightly blended edges. One long line, brush loaded. But the oils have to be thinned to enamal consistency. Overlap first stroke & back over, spaced outward a bit so theres a slight mix. With quality oils, they can be really thinned to flow through long brushes, & still be opaque. The width of paint is all a uniform thickness covering really well. Working in thicker paint may leave transparent spots, but a soft brush & light touch will take care of that. I use them for any long edge. The brush length takes out any wiggles, a nice smooth line.
This is the first time I've watched one of your videos. I'm always looking for more information on how to improve my painting. I'll be following yours and try finding you on Patreon. This was very informative and well done. Thanks for sharing.
I really enjoyed your explanation there is a lot of important information that's necessary to end up with very satisfactory outcomes for your work thank you.❤
Thank you Scott! I truly needed to understand and learn this secret! I feel so frustrated when a subject looks pasted on. Probably an unintegrated background 1:13 lighting issue more than i realized. I love the color blending trick for an edge that will now continue to turn back and not stop hard. I just got a lot out of this!! Thanks again!.
I just found you on You Tube and so glad I did. I take a painting class but have learned so much more from you that is extremely helpful and I love your teaching style - it is very relatable. I have a question about your colors - what about green? I always have problems knowing which green to use.
Canvas to camera shot needs to be at f.4-5.6. I know the lower f stop makes it look more cinematic, but it's a little blurry on our end. Love your work and you are one of the most informative channels on the tube. Thank you for providing all of this wonderful info. PS, I'm not trying to be a critical jerk by my comment, just giving my observation. Much love, keep up the great work!
I love it when I see you have a new video out but this one is the best yet. Your talent and knowledge is a pleasure to watch! You have helped me so much, thank you 😊
Thank you for this wonderful video. It helps me a lot. It teaches me to be patient with my projects and to focused more on the shape of things. You are a great teacher. God bless you.
I'm learning so much from the way you, I'm finally understand what's going on regarding lighting and how it affects surfaces. It's really challenging how I'm thinking about rendering forms.
Always nice tips! Edge quality is the most common “error” i see with beginners. Im now used to keep soft edges on the go and just make them a bit sharp in zones i want contrast
Hi Scott..this was such a useful video for me ..!Thank you so much..!I learn a lot from you..I must also say that you got me a bit curious..👀 about what you were looking over your shoulder for..🤔but that is just me…😃..Greetings from Croatia..love your work !👋
Thank you for these excellent tips, helps a lot; one other thing that I would be informed about is 'the colour(reflection) in the shadows': do i have to apply these first in the underlayer and background? Thank you.
Hey Scott, love your work. I have problems getting the right pink tint. Please could you tell me exactly the red colour you are using and is the Orange a Cadmium or Cadmium Hue? Thank you
I like the way he constantly glances back over his shoulder as if he's giving us that 'inside tip' that he could really get in trouble for having it disclosed.
Your a very talented man! This the second video I've seen of yours. N it is great! I've watch others? But yours are n the top? 2 Thumbs up,he to n learn more. A list of good brushes is needed n where to buy them.thank you very much!
You are a magnificent artist, but why don't your videos have translations? I am writing to you from Italy and I don't speak English and I would really like to understand what you are explaining. Anyway, thanks for what you do 🙏
I like big butts and I cannot lie.... helping the algorithm :P great video. I have been painting for 25 years and found this very valuable. love your work
Dude what are you even talking about, he's obviously looking at his monitor to check if what he's communicating is seen by the camera and the viewer? Dumb...
