All three look really good, and pretty easy too, I'm absolutely with you in the pin washing thing, it is a super powerful technique, takes longer than just slapping a wash all over and letting that do the work, but nothing makes the details on a model stand out better than a pin wash!

I’ve got a book called “Empire of Death”, which is all about European ossuaries and displays made from human remains. I use it all the time as a reference for painting. Hardly any of the bones are “bone” coloured. They range from Steel legion drab through Karak Stone. Others you would glaze with Mournfang brown. Many more are bleached, so rakarth flesh through to pure white.

New to watching your videos. I’m really enjoying them- QUESTION: when you start painting a mini you’re using what I think of as a dry brush- the reason? And how do you wash or care for them?
@ArtisOpus
@ArtisOpus 3 года назад
Welcome, buddy! You can layer traditionally or stipple/smoosh with a drybrush. This is something I tend to use my drybrushes for as it's a little heavier. Check out Ultimate Guide to drybrushing and Flawless Blends tutorials. A lot of my cleaning is done as I paint, they'll do a good job at explaining and showing this.🤞😊

I was wondering if you had any advice for someone who is doing mortifactors (bone white + black armour, love skulls and bones) I'm not sure how to make the armour, the skulls/bones and the purity seals/parchment not sort of all become one colour. This is a very good job. It would be interesting to make a comparison between these "modern" techniques with the older one. I mean, when the Shade and layer colours didn't exist, the washing was made with a normal colour, using more water. Maybe the modern colours (shade, etc..) can give a more complex effect in slightly less time.. buuut I'm afraid they're a commercial solution for the lazy painters! What do you think about it?
@ArtisOpus
@ArtisOpus 3 года назад
Really interesting idea, I've seen some other peeps paint eavy-metal style which is close to this, but just layering from black would definitely be a real change, now we're privileged

@@ArtisOpus Could you apply the basecoat through an airbrush over a zenithal? .. and when you apply the basecoat is it meant to be an all over base, or do you still maintain the top down lighting effect when applying a basecoat over a zenithal? ( I hope this question makes sense..)

Is there really a big difference between Agrax and that Nuln oil/sepia mix? How does that further compare to Skeleton Horde (contrast paint). I'm trying to simplify my paint scheme as much as possible but I really like your white bone version. Could I use grey seer base coat instead of celestra?

How do you maintain the round/goat hair style drybrushes? I think I messed mine up by trying to clean like I do with my normal brushes, masterson soap and water. There's a lot more fraying from one clean on mine than on yours which have probably seen a lot more action.

Ok...i have an issue maybe you might know the solution.... Im painting 4000 points of Soulblight gravelords... and i have a really cool armor paint job im doing... it ends with a really flashy vampire red... but to do it... i need to paint with an airbrush, and theres no way ill be able to not paint some of the bone while im doing the main spraying for the armor.... is there a good technique i could use to RE-apply a white base coat to the bone that will be bright red...and follow the steps you did... without getting it to thick? sorry to ask!
