@Jr_Rod18 I haven't had a problem with the sand scratches coming back thru. You can go over it with 180 if you want, but even after sanding with 80, it feels smooth
You can paint it , but it won't last. I have been in the Collision repair business for 50 years, first of all that piece of plastic was dipped to chrome it. you are taking off the crome by mechanical adhesion, but you are not removing all of it. There lies the problem. by using 80 grit you are exposing the raw plastic in spots. yes in the beginning it will adhere. give it two to five years it will be peeling off.
I dont believe you're right. When prepping the chrome plastics, I never cut it down to the plastic. I cut down to the copper coating in spots on the edges, that's it. I'm not taking the chrome off im just scuffing it up. I feel like if the parts peel, it will be because the chrome failed, not my paint. I've been painting chrome this way for years and never had any of my jobs come back. So I feel pretty confident in my work that I won't have any problems. If I have a problem, I'll make a video on it lol.
