Join me in this pastel painting lesson where I will be creating 2 small studies of beautiful Autumn Trees! The color of fall are glorious and I will be spicing up the color a bit to make these paintings brilliant and alive with color.
The first study is sped up a bit as I give commentary, but the second study is all real time! Feel free to follow along and I would love for you to share your results with me.

I love that with Pastels you can really get the darks down first and work the lights on top to keep the shadows where you want them to maintain the depth of color. In watercolor this was always so hard for me because it's literally the opposite. Building color up differently. But there is just something so satisfying to doing the underpainting in this way with the darks first and then the lights on top.

I remember that Time; hours seemed too become days. Days filled with questions and short on answers because of fear blocking the pathway. I watched you struggle during your tutorials; dropping to your knees while we all gave reverence hoping for Mercy. Mercy is binary... But God's grace is infinite through his son Jesus, the Christ. 💜 JL Price

@@monetcafe As a natural born Empath, It renders me to indure suffering of other's. Sometimes a curse; but problem solving comes natural. When looking into your soul in those days, many wounds bares witness of who you are; the tenderness of your spirit; the love you shared, brought out the lover, the poet, the dreamer. Hullo Susan, I appreciate your sharing of your ideas and techniques with us. I understand the desire to use a less expensive surface. I have tried several brands of pastels and I am unsure about using such an expensive stick on this very inexpensive paper! I understand practicing with your best tools and supplies. I am just puzzled about why you paired up this paper with Terry Ludwig’s pastels? Thank you again for sharing your process and giving your time to your viewers. I hope your doing well and staying safe out there!

I understand your point my friend. I think it's because I have more "softies" than I do medium hardness pastels. And I sometimes just go for what color works best. I probably could have used some Girault pastels that I have, but they didn't quite have the color punch as the really soft pastels. ;) I like the way you think though.... saving money is my middle name! lol

@mehditorkamani9890 Год назад
But doesn’t using less aggressive paper actually help, not to eat up too much soft pastel for a study? I personally think that’s a very good combination 😊
@mjpete27
@mjpete27 Год назад
@@mehditorkamani9890 hi, it is ok if the pastel sticks to the surface, some sticks(Terry ludwig even Schmincke) Are so soft after you place the color down it just drops off! If there is nothing to hold the pigment! The “tooth” of the surface is full and unless you add more like a workable spray fixative you waste very expensive pastel! 8 bucks or more for TL and Schmincke can run up to $5 a stick! Studies are so important yet you must maximize your practice too! Find tools that work for you and stick with them! I use rough watercolor paper with clear gesso for my practice & studies. Sanded, Velour or Pastelmat papers for final artworks! Test as much as you can until you find what works for you! Good luck.

Ah okay, not sticking on to the paper will be a problem, you’re right. Home made surface is also a very good idea. I guess, for me as a painting enthusiast not professional, a pastel study is just for quickly check the colors and the color combination, never thought about doing it properly. Will give it a try next time. Thanks @@mjpete27

Love all the fall tree scenes you have been doing! I would love to see the magic you can make happen on a sanded surface like uart or pastel premier. Thanks for the share, I love all the content that you provide for everyone.

I'm totally in love with your videos. You're such an inspiration for me!! I have a question, how I can create that kind of board that you use to fill the size of the canvas? It seems really easy trick to draw the right size on paper. Thank u so much❤️
@monetcafe
@monetcafe Год назад
Wonderful, Renata. I'm not sure what you mean with your question. Do you mean what I use to mark my painting size? If so, I use a matt (the kind you use to frame a picture). A standard 5" x 7" mat is 5x7 on the inside dimension, and 8x10 on the outer dimension. So one mat works for 2 sizes. :)
