Thank you for these videos. I am about to work on these two pink side tables. I want to paint them black and this tutorial helped me pick the right paint to get it done right. 😊
This looks amazing. You did a great job and your instructions were very good. I have an oak curio cabinet I need to paint black to fit into my new house. It is mostly glass so not much to actually paint. I’ve been searching for the best way to do this and I have chosen your method.
Love your videos. Your work is beautiful!!! And I appreciate the fact that we don't have to listen to information that has noting to do with the furniture. You are direct, and right to the point. Please don't change. You are exactly as your video title. A Ray of Sunlight. Thank you.
Thank you for this fun one! I've been looking for "DIY paint furniture black" without the high cost of tools and steps. This is perfect! Thank you so much for the education when it comes to painting furniture and especially, in black. My favorite 🖤🤘
You are amazing teacher. I am planning to go my 1st piece and there is so much info with little to no context out there. Your video help me understand things better.
You deserve praise for recycling and giving a second life to old furniture, especially cheaply made pieces, instead of just buying IKEA throw-away crap. Even the cheapest furniture of yore is at another level compared to IKEA (or its copiers).
I'm getting ready to paint a buffet in black. Your video was so helpful! Thank you and this dresser is really pretty. You kept the perfect hardware, too!
After watching your video, I decided to keep my bed black. I was wanting to get away from dark colors and brightening up my new home, but you convinced me to just re-paint and brighten up my bedding. Thank you.
You’re really amazing! Thank you for your patience to film every step- I’m going to attempt to paint black nice dresser I got for free and your tips and tricks are really helpful! Do you have a TT or iG?
I’m always painting a piece of furniture black! Yours is gorgeous as always. I’ve learned a few things I didn’t know about black. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
@@ARayofSunlight I’ve been trying a lot of different brands. HTP, I’ve used quite a bit. Rust oleum milk paint,Behr paint and primer in tricorn black. Such a beautiful black. I have a brand called Lillymoon, haven’t tried this one yet.
as a professional painter, I, of course, seek ways of saving time & $$. I noticed you found bonding success with the AquaLock black. I find this product (in black) dries to a handsome, low-luster finish and actually seems to “level-out” as you mentioned a few times. Why not apply another coat and use this as finish? I find these lower luster finishes are actually preferred by clients these days, as glossy finishes seem to be out. Also, I find you’re better off not informing a client that the low luster finish that they’re so impressed with is actually a primer, they usually can’t wrap there head around that. 🤔
Just an FYI, everyone should ALWAYS use Shellac on any furniture you paint! Otherwise the paint is harder to strip & paint gets stuck into the wood fibers, then it needs a dental pick to get them out. 2 coats of shellac, light sand with at least 400 grit or paper bag, then paint
THIS was very SATISFYING! Thank you! I have a piece I want to work on. Im literally debating on going to the store to get everything I need. My toxic trait thinking ill do it all today. 🤣
Hi! What is the purpose of the pantyhose? And do you have an Amazon storefront/profile from which we can browse your favorite items? I’m not sure what exactly that is called
Is there a way temporarily paint your furniture black? I want to paint this set I just got but it’s so beautiful I might want to come back to the wood look later 😅
I have a question: I have some kid marks on my painted piece. Also the surface is a bit rough - hard to dust. I’ve decided I need to seal it. How can I get the marks off / rough spots off before I seal it? Should I sand it?
You can try sanding it. But it’s hard to tell you what you can and can’t do when I’m not sure what the paint was. Some paints should not be topcoated too.
I didn’t on this piece. Except I sanded the top to get rid of the brush marks and stuff. I sand between coats only if I don’t like the brush marks or texture in the finish.
I painted a dining table black and mixed few tablespoons of the black paint with water based poly and it looks gray. Is that normal? Will it dry clear ?
The lower the number the more rough it is and the faster it will remove something. 220 grit sandpaper is perfect for sanding before painting. It doesn’t scratch too much or too little.
Veneer is a plain wood sandwiched by a more expensive wood on the outside. Wood makers discovered that delicate woods such as mahogany last better when a piece of birch or pine is placed in the middle between very thin layers of the mahogany. Laminate is a man made product is bound with wood in chips or sawdust. It is laminated or coated with a plastic or man made product!
Laminate is usually a thin layer of plastic. Veneer is usually a very thin slice of real wood. Both can be put on top of manufactured wood (MDF or particle board) or real wood. Laminate is also very slick and shiny, so paint has a lot harder of a time sticking to it.
i see that you left the backing plate off the original drawer pulls when you put them back on the dresser. can you please tell us why you made that choice? thanks you.
